hhhh sun and moon mermay au

they aren't any specific species, though i did see some images of betta fish and took some artistic inspiration lol

anyways, here's some random side facts under the cut:

- sun is energetic and exciteable, kind and curious

- his bite is poisonous and it paralyzes his prey

- hunts by basically pretending to be bait? then strikes when you least expect it (though there's no malice behind the action)

- moon is cautious and wary, distant and protective

- they look all spikey but the spikes are actually soft and do no harm

- usually fiercely protects sun even though sun is more than capable of taking care of himself

(- protectiveness led to a bunch of scars)

Moon boys redesign!

Based off an anglerfish, hes smaller than Sun but his tail is thicker making him 7’10 to Suns 8’6

Hes much stronger and is built for the deep ocean dives, Sun and Eclipse can do deep dives but Sun tends to faint if he deep dives when he resurfaces while Eclipse cant stay down there for as long a Moon, Moon can stick around deep depths for about 20hrs before he needs to come back up due to deep sea sickness starting to get to him

His chest is also slightly wider to help with pressure regulation and hes covered in much more bioluminescence to attract for prey in the dark depths, hes essentially the muscle between him and Sun, dont get us wrong sun can leave damage with a good tail wack but Moons heavier thicker tail is sure to leave something broken

He has a hook stuck on his headfin that he refuses to touch because it hurts but he wont admit it does, saying it makes him look cool, Tari does convince him to let her take it out once she gets his trust after a few months at the recovery center they were taken to

This Au is a little different that mythical creatures do exist but their are “civilized” and “wild” groups of each creature, the boys were Wild mers but Sun and Moon were caught and taken to rehabilitation when they saw are malnourished were, Eclipse finds them when their released and find Tari again on their own, Hes slightly older than the 2 and decided to adopt them and they created a small pod together
