I don't like Jackson Whittemore but I know you do so i just wondering what about him you like

Hmm, that's a hard question to answer, I think.

See, first thing to know is that I don't like Jackson as in I agree with his behavior or see him as the victim/the one in the right, etc. I like Jackson as in I like the potential he had, and the possible layers that could be applied to him, whether the writers intended it or not.

Jackson is indubitably an asshole. Straight up. He's the stereotypical jock bully. The equivalent of a quarterback, dating the queen bee in school, stepping on everyone around him to get what he wants.

But he isn't just an asshole.

There's more to what he does and how he behaves, be they reasons for that behavior, or things that change the perspective on what exactly is happening. I'mma pop in a read more to save people's eyes.

God forbid I manage to make a post that doesn't need an anti-scott tag, so we'll start with the way Jackson's behavior is framed and perceived. I personally ascribe to the implication given at the end of the show that everything we see is part of a story that Scott is explaining to a new Beta that he's trying to recruit into working for him/helping him. This means that everything we see is at least a little tainted by Scott's perspective. His biases, his preferences, and what he finds important.

This is important because of the purpose behind Jackson's character. He is written to be Scott's goal. Not his hero or his foil even. But his goal. Jackson is what Scott wants to be. He has what Scott wants. Every frame of Jackson's introduction is made to show this off. The girl (Scott falls for the new girl but can't bring himself to talk to her, while Jackson's in a happy, long-term relationship with the most popular girl in school) The game (Scott can't get on the field because of his health issues, and Jackson's team captain) The car (Scott shows up to school in a bike, and right next to him, Jackson shows up in a Porsche) The clothes (Scott's in hoodies and long-sleeves and t-shirts. He has to have his fucking tux mended the night of the dance. Jackson wears fashion show outfits.)

Key Note: Scott isn't jealous of Jackson. He doesn't want the same things Jackson has. He's envious of him. He wants what Jackson has. He wants to take it away from Jackson, and he doesn't want to share. He's not satisfied when he gets made team captain, because he's co-captain. But he is satisfied when he makes out with Lydia, not because he got a girl, but because he got Jackson's girl. When the show starts, Scott the human wants everything Jackson has, and in order to facilitate that and get the viewer to root for his cause, he views everything Jackson has as undeserved. (Stiles does the same in regards to wanting Lydia) His reasoning is that Jackson's a jerk, so why should he be team captain? Why should he get to date the pretty girl? Why should he get to be popular? He's mean, so he obviously doesn't deserve it.

He's not taking care of what he has, doesn't appreciate it, so he shouldn't get to have it. Scot is clearly in the right for wanting to take it away from him.

Everything we see Jackson do anywhere Scott can see him is pretty much coated in "I'm a dickhead" energy to further exemplify this. Every line is smarmy and self-serving, every action is selfish and has underhanded motives. And it's always to do with Scott for some reason. o.O He only made friends with Allison to get to Scott. He screws up Scott's chances on the field by getting the rest of the team to gang up on him. He screws up the molotov that was supposed to protect Scott. He rats Scott out to hunters. On and on and on.

But when I started watching the show again a while back with my husband, the scenes with Jackson started looking different to me. Knowing the scenes were being skewed and slanted, that the narrator isn't reliable, I tried to peel that filter back from the camera and tried to focus on what happened rather than how it looked.

For example; the scene in the cafeteria where Jackson shows up to his table and kicks another guy out of 'his' spot. The guy complains that Jackson never asks Danny to move, and Jackson looks totally unfeeling as he sits down. He's being a dick, right? Except that Danny responds to the complaint by pointing out that when this other guy sits next to Lydia, he does nothing but stare at her boobs. Yes, jackson's an asshole for kicking someone out of a seat. But I can't say i don't understand why he'd do it, if the guy was ogling Lydia enough for the rest of the table to notice. Jackson is protective of the few people he cares about, i.e Lydia and Danny. Another example I've mentioned on this blog is the bowling alley situation. Allison and Lydia are trying to come up with something to do for a double date, and Lydia brings up bowling. Jackson isn't into it because he apparently prefers to bowl competitively and doesn't think Scott or Allison are going to be good enough to interest him. Scott proceeds to claim he's Awesome at bowling.

Fast forward to the actual bowling, and Scott fucking sucks. Immediately, Jackson starts making fun of him and is a general dickhead. Then, when Scott gets better later on, Jackson becomes even more of a jerk. What a fuckhead, right? Except Jackson's teasing is based on the fact that Scott lied to his fucking face, and he wants people to know Scott is a liar. And when Scott starts getting really good, it's out of nowhere. THere is no Reason for his improvement. Spending half the game biffing every roll and the other half getting nothing but strikes is Not Normal. Jackson is already suspicious of Scott's improvement (i.e. cheating) on the field, so seeing the same shit happen here has to got to be infuriating. Scott can't even help himself from cheating at bowling. Jackson's complaints about Scott are only ever saying Very True things about him.

Right down to how Jackson and Lydia's behavior with one another is lewd and uncomfortable for everyone, until Scott's not looking at them anymore. How Lydia implies that she's constantly putting herself down and being smothered for Jackson's sake, because he wants her to. All pointing to Jackson not Deserving her.

This theme kind of continues through most of Jackson's scenes involving Scott. He's doing something that makes him look like a royal jerk, but then when you kind of pick it apart and focus on What is happening, instead of how it's being framed by the camera, things are a lot different than they first appear. Jackson's constant anger is often Very Reasonable considering the situations he's being put in.

When he's in scenes by himself or in ones that have nothing to do with Scott, he acts totally different. He's soft with Lydia, kind to Allison, he's emotional and a hard worker and he doesn't want to hurt people! But the moment scott gets involved, he snaps back to being a monster.

That isn't to say he's not a dick, or that he responds to his anger well, or that he isn't doing bad things. It's just to say that there's more layers to it than we might initially consider.

Like, look even the scene where Derek shows up at the school and asks Jackson where Scott is. Jackson's a fuckface and assumes Derek is on drugs and is Scott's dealer.

This is because for weeks he's been trying to figure out how Scott is cheating on the field. Sure, part of that is because he wants Scott taken down a few pegs so he can go back to being the best on the team, but there's more to it! Werewolves aren't an accepted or known about thing. Drugs is literally the only way that Scott would be able to get that good at lacrosse that fast. Jackson is team captain. If someone on Jackson's team is doing drugs, he will get in trouble. The whole team will be penalized and tested and scrutinized. He's trying to protect his team and his own reputation. He wants the cheater gone. I can't blame Jackson for being royally pissed by Scott not only doing drugs and endangering their entire season and team, but also having his drug dealer show up at school visibly messed up on something and asking around for him without even trying to hide what was going on. It's just rubbing all of this in Jackson's face.

I think Jackson had so much potential in a lot of ways. He was the ideal Beta for Derek, so much like Erica and Isaac and Boyd that it hurts. If the kanima hadn't messed him up, I really think he would've been a great member of their pack. When he goes to ask for the bite, he asks to be "one of you." Not to be a werewolf, not to be powerful. To be one of you. Part of the group. And despite ratting Scott out to the hunters at the end of season 1, whom literally everyone is fucking terrified of and he genuinely thinks is going to kill him if he refuses, he still makes a goddamn bomb with Stiles and goes with him into the woods to murder the exact werewolf who might've been able to give him the bite he wanted. He had no way of knowing Derek would become the Alpha afterward, and every reason to think that he was giving up any chance at getting the bite for the sake of stopping Peter. He did it anyway.

So, yeah, I have some interest in Jackson, in what he could've been, had the actor not left (i can't even remember if he was the one who left or if he got booted bc they wrote him out). Even the stuff that happens in season 3a, the way that the Alpha twins behave, so much of it implies that Jackson was supposed to be filling that slot that they gave Scott. The twins went after Lydia and Danny, they're perfect examples of what Jackson always wanted to be, and they have the ability to offer him even more power. It makes way more sense to me for them to have been intended to go after Jackson and try to lure him toward the Alphas, than for them to think that getting close to Lydia and Danny was going to matter even a little to Scott. Scott barely knows either of them! He has no reason to care, and it's weird the way the show suddenly makes him obsessed with their safety and friendship. Not to mention the whole Lydia thing of her being upset she always goes for 'bad guys'. Can you imagine the angst potential of Jackson being so easily duped by these cool guys who show up and join his friend group and offer him power and strength and friendship. And then realizing that they've got their claws in the two people he cares about more than anything, and that he doesn't have a choice anymore. They would own him, and he'd do whatever they wanted to keep Lydia and Danny safe. They might've even tried to get him to kill Derek, to steal his Alpha's spark the way they had, hoping that he'd get the full-shift ability along with it and be easier to control than Derek would. Or maybe they were after him because they thought (or knew about some secret way) they could bring the kanima back somehow and use him as their killing machine.

There's just so much that could've been, and so much that was that we couldn't even see. Jackson was a jerk, but he earned everything he had. All the captain spots and team leader positions, he got them because he worked his ass off. We see that in the show. There's a whole scene about it, about how he works too hard, demands too much of himself. Is desperate and scared and trying so hard to be the best because then he'll stop feeling so weak. The things he got handed to him are useless. A fancy car, a cool house and nice clothes. He'll brag about them, but they do nothing for him. Everything that matters, he got for himself through hard work and talent. He even refuses to get the steroids Lydia tries to coerce him into, because he wants to win the game on his own merit. If I were him, I'd hate Scott too, for getting everything handed to him on a lycanthropic platter. Working and working and tearing myself apart to be the best and watching it all go down the drain because someone who never did anything to deserve it got given a gift at random and proceeded to abuse it liberally to get everything he wanted and take it all away from Jackson. Right down to his fucking girlfriend. And the whole time, Scott complains about how much he's suffering and refuses to share the gift with anyone else. Hell, I'd even hate Stiles a bit. I mean, I haven't mentioned him in any of this, but Stiles also goes against Jackson's entire ethics system. Stiles is painfully intelligent with zero effort, and he isn't afraid to hold it over other people's heads. He didn't earn it, he barely studies. But he still gets to be the smartest person in the room. Meanwhile Jackson grabs the wrong chemical and almost gets someone killed. He's got his own kind of intelligence, but it's implied that he's not booksmart, and that must burn for Jackson.

It's probably why Lydia always acts stupid at the beginning. For his sake, because she knows that it hurts him to see other people just get things. Just have them without working for it. It's not about making Jackson look better, it's about not making him feel worse.

According to the show, Jackson's traumatized by his parent's death because he feels like he has no past. He has no identity. So he makes his own, building skills he chooses and getting titles he's earned. And he hates when other people don't have to do that. When they can just go "I was born like this" or "I'm the sheriff's son" and know who they are and how they belong in the world.

There aren't good excuses for why Jackson does the shitty things he does, or says the shitty things he says. But a lot of the time, there are reasons. I don't have to agree with him, but I can at least understand him.

Another random thing I just remembered, (spoilers for Phantom Liberty, ish, and for my Sun-Ending fic, ish xD)...

I found a shard in Dogtown where the author speculated if the Blackwall even still exists (it does, at least at the time of reaching out to Alt), or if the wild AIs from beyond are long free (having been freed by Netwatch, Arasaka, etc, or having freed themselves) and "among us" in some way shape or form.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

Now, with my noob understanding and knowledge of the deeper Cyberpunk lore re: the Net and Cyberspace etc etc, I think yeah, absolutely they are. And I think Mr. Blue-Eyes might be one. Johnny says during the final convo with Jefferson Peralez that he thinks, whoever the people mind controlling him are, they're much more powerful than any corporation etc, I think he does mention wild AIs even.

*puts on second, comically big tinfoil hat*

And since Mr. B is right across on the balcony and one shady mf, I think either he's just a super convincing humanoid cyborg housing an AI or he is human but controlled or in constant contact with one or several of them. And I think he's not the only one. There's the whole shady thing with Garry the prophet and the two men in black, and maybe it's all nothing. But idk. I dont think they necessarily need to have sth to do with Mr. B, and maybe they are just "regular" corpo agents of some sort.

Idk xD been sort of rotating this idea of "what if Mr. B is a host for a wild AI" in my head for ages and that one random shard got me thinking about it again, wondering about how it could work, if you, as a corpo agent or Netrunner or whatnot could let out a select AI through the Blackwall, if there's other means and ways, etc etc.

It's my favorite podcast and I wanna talk about Season 3. So Hotelpod spoilers for Seasons 3 and 4 (specifically X-X and Judy Blashy).

So. Now that it's just us. How's it going? We feel good? Great!

I wanna pick on the Season 3 detail about how the Manager died. We know the Gibbering Monster beat her to death. And we know that only The Hotel Herself can ever kill the staff meaningfully.

So when the Owner says "I remember the shape of her skull" we're supposed to think he's remembering the Manager dying. But I think he's really remembering the HOTEL'S "death" as Judy Blashy.

Time in the Hotel tends to be strange. Season 3 is technically a prequel and explanation as to how the staff got there. But every story the staff gives contradicts each other AND the Hotel's own explanation.

The Manager says SHE built the Hotel as a method of keeping the Monster from the woods at bay (which is the Hotel, friendly reminder)

The Lobby Boy just knows he's here and he looks to the Manager for direction. He's made from the shadows of the Hotel. But he can access the Third Story where the Owner does his work and where the Hotel exists? resides? looks in on her little lights? does something.

The Owner says he's been here from the beginning. The very start of the Hotel. He even asks her "Are we open yet?" meaning he understands he's existed BEFORE the other two.

The Hotel says she swallowed the staff the same way she devours planets and stars. But they refused to be snuffed out. She didn't MAKE them directly but moulded them into what she needed them to be.

With all that in mind, we get to The Hotel dying and the whole Judy Blashy thing.

"I remember the shape of her skull" could be the Owner remembering the way he kills "Judy" in Season 4. He thinks he's killing a guest and breaks her skull against the front desk. He just sees himself carrying out another job. What he doesn't know (and what the Hotel probably doesn't even tell him) is that she's warning him about his own temper. About the consequences of lashing out.

And it's also fascinating that the Hotel ends up "dying" in a similar manner to how she killed the Manager. And how the Manager fights to control the Hotel (both trying to get Madam to behave and trying to keep operations running smoothly).

More reasons why Zuko being the Firelord is objectively the funniest thing on earth:

HES SEVENTEEN

He hasn’t been civilised in 4 years, his entire teenage experience consists of living on a boat and sleeping rough. The most stable bed he has was probably in Ba Sing Se he probably will just nap anywhere.

He has customer service experience which means he probably uses his customer service voice on his minsters.

Additionally he probably just wanders into to kitchen to get his own snacks and tea because he forgets what servants do.

He probably has no idea why he can’t just chase after an assassin he used to hunt the avatar for Agnis sake why is the captain of the guard demanding he stay in his room he’ll find the guy first (he’s probably right)

Katara probably has a free pass on Eco terrorism because what’s he going to do challenge her, she’ll beat his ass.

If he saw a minster doing something shady he will either invite lady Beifong to detect their BS or commit B&E and look for evidence himself.

He somehow found a baby dragon and raises it.

He will be far to willing to give Kyoshi island anything they want cause he feels bad and Suki scares him.

He randomly insisted on giving some earth kingdom village 100 ostrich horses.

The Avatar will just show up call him Hotman and demand the go on adventures and the Firelord will just dip because he’s been confined to long and has the Zoomies.

He takes far to much advice from Sokka and will genuinely believe if someone doesn’t get Sokkas plans they must be an idiot because Sokka is 16.

Sokka and Zuko also get into a lot of teenage rebellion phases by accident.

Toph just walks in breaks a wall of his palace and demands a field trip that always involves the Firelord having to explain himself to the cops.

He somehow knows every dangerous teen in the world and they all come for tea uninvited.

He has broken into both the NWT and Ba Sing Se.

He has a really well documented facial scar and official portraits but still disappears to be Lee the tea guy like no one knows.

HES SEVENTEEN.

Tumblr reblog chains are in danger.

It seems that the staff is actually going to go forward with their decision to remove reblog chains, where reblogs will basically work like regular comments on other websites.

This doesn't just make the site completely unusable, it removes the soul of the community that has managed to build up here over the years, and that I'm so happy to have recently joined.

It makes impossible the creation of great posts where many people build up a single thing, until it is a gem of expressed human creativity.

There will be no more world heritage posts, no more messing around with your mutuals, no posts worth remembering.

There will be no more Tumblr, and the Tikblr or TumbTube or whatever monstrosity is born from its corpse will soon die, as is probably the best. And then there will never be another place like this on the internet, no place anymore to run to, no more fun, no more community.

I recommend a simple course of action. When these changes get imposed upon us, stop using Tumblr. Get your mutuals' discords, your favourite artists' websites, and leave. If the Tumblr we have once known returns, we well too. If not, better let it die quickly than suffer a long and painful decline.

I beg you to reblog this, for the more people see it, the higher chanses are for this to work.

And add something, so we can show them what Tumblr is really for.

the fact that eric kripke isn't even christian really adds something to the way christianity is depicted on supernatural. because its really not about being christian at all, but about living in america, a country dominated by christianity, and having to decide for yourself how to handle that. faith is huge in supernatural, and the mythology of the show is very bible-centric, but notably, christ is never there. even sam, who starts out revering the angels, who once said he prays every night, doesn't actually call himself a christian or imply that he believes in jesus--the show is steeped in christianity and biblical lore and yet neither sam nor dean are christians. in fact, over and over again the church itself is depicted as a haunted house that sam and dean will only ever enter as strangers, as outsiders. priests, preachers, faith healers, chapels, crypts, etc. are all just iconography that create an intense sense of unease that sam and dean respond to instantly. as a jew, its very relatable. an essential part of living in america when you're not christian is that exact sense of unease, of knowing that the culture of your country has ensured that you'll get knocked over by christianity no matter where you go, that you'll see hundreds of people truly believing they're good people while doing awful things in the name of their god, and you have no choice but to confront that. kripke gets it

Really so much respect for David Jenkins. He really went "historical accuracy"? "Realism"? "Laws of physics"? Nope, we don't need those here, everything in this story is Vibes. Dinghies can travel huge distances if necessary, except sometimes not, injuries heal immediately or slowly fester, whichever the plot demands for comedy or drama respectively, a character spends several days dead/in a coma/in purgatory and then just comes back to life when his beloved shows up. Nothing is too over the top for this story, cringe doesn't exist, we'll dial all those feelings up to eleven, and we're gonna play everything with 100% earnestness, and we're gonna have a merman and it's going to be so fucking romantic. And he's right about all of it! Really the best way to do fiction.

stevens relationship with gender is so fascinating to me. his entire diamond days arc is a clear trans allegory, but more specifically reads as a transmasc allegory, what with everyone reffering to him as "rose" or "pink" and feminine terms despite his repeated insistence that he is *steven*. and yet he never actually corrects anyone when they use she/her. he only corrects his name. this was pointed out in the tags of that one post youve probably seen:

this post doesnt show it, but steven is delighted when blue said this. obviously you can read this as steven being glad that shes making an effort, even if incorrect, and is just choosing to let the wrong pronouns slide. but its never explicitly stated. and like i said, he never corrects she/her, he only corrects his name. although it is interesting that, by the time the movie rolls around, the diamonds have switched to he/him.

its also interesting to mention how excited he was to put on pink diamonds outfit, and also how quickly he took it off once he got the chance.

of course stevens relationship with his mother and his identity issues are going to play a big part in how he percieves his gender, given that for a large chunk of the show he actually belived they were the same person, at least to some extent. ("im my mom and my sister?! what kind of magical destiny is this?!). how would you define your "agab" when half your family is telling you that you are a centuries old alien called rose/pink who has no sex and used she/her? not to mention all of the various gender identities and pronouns his fusions have.

thats not even getting started on how the gems percieve gender, which is to say, they generally don't. gems are sexless beings and their society has no concept of gender, although after spending a long time on earth im sure the crystal gems have a better understanding (i actually could talk about the gems relation to human gender a lot more but ill save that for another time). for steven, a child raised by gems for a good chunk of his childhood- who use feminine terms as a default-i can see how that would lead to some interesting perceptions on gender presentation.

thats not even getting into stevens gender noncomformity. and while gender presentation doesnt necessarily have anything to do with your gender identity, its interesting to note and i just think its really cool that a male protagonist is so unapologetically feminine

also i could talk for days about connie and stevens knight/princess dynamic, and how it parallels pearl and roses, but in a healthier way that nips the whole "obssesive self sacrifice" thing in the (rose) bud as soon as steven notices it. but then id have to talk about pearl and then wed be here all day lol

so yeah, stevens relationship with gender fascinates me. I mean, does the concept of "cisgender" even apply in the way we usually mean it to, given stevens unique experiences?

Hey y'all! Since it's Love Loses Wednesday for all who celebrate and I have plenty of thoughts about it, here's some of those thoughts I've had for my fellow enjoyers of Chip Bastard from the insanely powerful podcast Just Roll With It!

So.

Chip being so focused on family and friends, on finding Arlin and keeping his co-captains and crew safe, while the most he ever shows interest in romance is in brief, jokey flirting that's quickly brushed aside.

Chip buying a love potion, only for it to sit unused in his inventory for literal months until it unceremoniously drops into the mouth of the Electrodon.

Chip being unnerved or even downright scared when somebody shows a sign of being attracted to him (Amanda with the marriage, Jazz and his flirting, the frantic denial to Ollie that Gillion kissing him meant anything (which was then followed by barely any change in their relationship. A typically romantic act, done as an act of love between friends, and yet those friends never did start a romance. Curious))

Speaking of Amanda and the marriage: Chip waking up one day and suddenly being expected, even morally obligated, to be in a romantic relationship with somebody he doesn't even know, for reasons he doesn't even know. And even when he clarifies that he doesn't want this, that he won't give up being a pirate with his friends for it, he still can't leave behind the expectation fully, because Amanda, and thus this expectation, is literally chasing him. Sometimes it even comes from his own friends, because no matter how much he would prefer to just Not Be Married, there's no way for him to get out of it, especially not ones Gillion would likely accept, and therefore the expectation that eventually, he'll be in a romance, is inescapable.

And even more interesting, he's not opposed to the idea of getting married in general. He wasn't wholly against the notion of marrying Igneous just for the AC boost it would give them. Clearly, the problem he had wasn't with the marriage itself, but with the fact that he was expected to form a romantic partnership.

And lastly: Chip having his literal heart ripped out of him, and staying nearly the same. Making jokes about how his heart was stolen in a way that was literal instead of romantic. Writing to his wife that if death do them part, then now it has (and doesn't it even say something that the only way for him to escape the marriage, the expectations, was to die?)

He cares for his friends just the same. He cares for his crew just the same. He wants to find Arlin just as much as ever. And his avoidance of his wife, of the expectation that he perform romance, stays the same. But even if he's the exact same, he has an excuse for this now. Because clearly, somebody with no heart couldn't feel romance, and who cares that he didn't really seem to before he lost his heart either?

Chip being aromantic, on a textual, metaphorical, and thematic level.

the way his ending was pre written, like a fixed point in time you can't change, the way darth vader had to always come after anakin. Oh but he saved himself at the same time he became luke's father, because darth vader was anakin skywalker, and that meant vader's end will always be with redemption, looking upon his son. The way even when he was going through mustafar, he would always be able to save himself, at the end..

So I’ve been trying to figure out why I felt okay with the treatment of Anakin/Vader in the Obi-Wan show but felt unsatisfied with how the Ahsoka show handled things, because they both end with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka respectively still caring for Anakin, so they’re arguably similar. (As a note, I’m not talking performances, I’m talking storyline and the views the characters take)

I think that what I’ve landed on is that, while Obi-Wan still can’t give up on the memory of Anakin as he was, he acknowledges that “My friend is truly gone.” The whole conversation the two of them have is one of my favorite parts of the show, because it is a moment when Obi-Wan has to confront his guilt and loss and accept that Anakin made choices that led him to become Vader—“I am not your failure, Obi-Wan” and “Anakin Skywalker is dead. I am what remains” are incredibly important lines in this realization. When Obi-Wan walks away and leaves Vader for dead but once again isn’t able to bring himself to kill him, it doesn’t feel like he’s forgiven him or is ignoring who he is (especially with the “Goodbye, Darth” line), it feels like Obi-Wan not being able to kill someone who had once been a boy he helped raise and had loved. I don’t think that’s a great choice, considering the evil Vader brings to the galaxy, but it’s a choice entirely in line with Obi-Wan’s character.

The reverse of that is what episode five of the Ahsoka show felt like to me: we saw Ahsoka struggling because she could only see the evil of Vader and it was making her question herself and her own legacy, and the her conversation in the world between worlds let her accept that those evils didn’t mean that there had never been good; Anakin Skywalker was more than that. And that’s SO good, I love it as a storyline and a parallel to Obi-Wan. I didn’t like, though, that they took it further; that by the end of things, Ahsoka seemed to only be remembering the good in him, because I think what’s important about Anakin is that he was both, and that’s hard to accept.

I think you're talking about Deaton, but excuse me if I'm mistaken. I have complicated feelings about Deaton, but in general...I hate his guts. \o/ Like, it's unfortunate that they really really leaned into the "Mysterious Cryptic Black Mentor" stereotype for him, and he didn't get nearly as much depth as they tried to IMPLY that he had? They just kept insinuating that he had this really fascinating and complex background and then refused to actually tell anyone what it was.

Based purely on what I've seen of deaton, versus what the creators might've intended for him, Deaton's a fucking asshole.

This man was fully aware that Scott had been bitten and become a werewolf, and played stupid about it for literal months. He knew how to help literally everyone in town and refused to do so on the basis of 'maintaining the balance' and not wanting to 'get involved'.

He had a way to contain werewolves, and yet let Scott run around town with zero control for two months. Leaving Stiles no choice but to handcuff his best friend and fear for the lives of his friends and family and scott himself. Leaving SCOTT to fear for the life of his girlfriend and DEREK to fear for the safety of his entire species because Scott was constantly in danger of exposing them. Speaking of Derek, he KNEW who derek was. He knew exactly what Derek was asking him about. He swore to protect and help Derek's family and derek himself, and then when faced with a kid who just lost his big sister and was going to the only person he thought might have answers, Deaton pretended he had no idea what the fuck derek was talking about and just hung him out to dry. THEN he shamed him for not trusting people! After LYING TO HIM

They could've stopped Peter so easily. Could've given Scott peace of mind while he learned to control his abilities. Deaton could've helped them understand what was going on and filled in the gaps in Derek's information. Could've played mediator with the hunters to protect Scott and Derek. Could've done his goddamn job. According to deaton himself, he was never retired. He was just refusing to participate until Scott "inspired" him. NEvermind that he left Scott at Peter and the hunters' mercy for months before that. And don't forget that he helped Scott plot out someone's murder and poisoned someone by replacing their cancer medication. Like. o.O Are you fuckin joking? And that's just the early seasons. Deaton's just. A dick. A self-righteous asshole who holds vital information over people's heads until he gets bored enough to involve himself in the world of those SO Far BElow HiM. He's an exposition distributor that tosses information like bread crumbs to the main characters, only when the writers want people to finally find things out. But instead of even having him LEARN things and then share them, he admits to having KNOWN IT ALL ALONG and just refusing to share. He's just as bad, if not worse, than people generally consider Peter to be. His character is just a jerk, my dude. Maybe he was done dirty by the writers, or hell maybe it was intentional. Maybe they meant for him to be a dickhead.

In short; Deaton bad.

This Is A Gay Asian Rant About BL Comments Made By Some Queer Westerners I See Sometimes.

So you know of those gays (usually white) that made dumb tiktok dancing to list of countries that legalized same sex marriage and list of countries that discriminate against LGBTQIA+ poeple as a way to say something racist. yeah i kinda got the same vibes from some comments regard how asian BL is homophobic just cause they don't live up to queer western standard. look, i'm not saying that some BLs and their creators don't deserve criticism regard how they capitalized/exploited queerness for an easy cash grab.

But people need to understand that Asian countries despite recent progress are still very much culturally conservatives. so when people says that thai bl is homophobic and all the characters looks like bunch of straight guys, which is true for some olders thai BLs i'm not gonna denied that. but after all this time and newer BLs generally being very queer and most of creators being out queer themself and poeple still making these comments, i'm annoyed.

And don't get me start on the actors. you don't know them! why are you making assumption and calling them queerbaiter just cause they acts in bl. like maybe they're straight, maybe they're not but what they're definitely doing is making queer content for you know, queer people here. so when you made halfass comments about their sexuality what do you think that made other queer people who still in the closet feels. and when you add the nationality to that, "these thai bl pair are this and that, this korean actor is so ungrateful for his bl past", etc. when our societies are still very much still in progress regard LGBTQIA+ acceptance. it make us living here feels fucking awful like somehow we're lesser queer than people in the west just cause we don't have citibank at pride or some shit.

And the shittiest in my humbled opinion are comments regard censored chinese bls. people do know like, that the creators making these bls are risking their livelihoods for this. that these shows getting make at all are miracles. yes it sucked that they're censored but they're still very much queer shows making by queer people who want to express thier queerness despite the chinese government being the chinese government. when people dimissing these shows as not belonging in queer media, you're also dimissing their creators and audiences as not belonging in the community.

Look what i want to say is that we're trying our best over here, and maybe our best are not up to your liking. the ways we talk and express our queerness maybe still can be perceived as problematic by western queer standard. but these media are our house and you're the guests. for people aren't shitty we appreciated that you're here engaging and loving our media, this is your home too and you're welcome in it. i can speak for myself that i very much love being here on tumblr and interacting with people from all over the world who love BL. but for people who are being shitty sometimes about asian bl.

Hua Cheng essentially cockblocking himself for possibly all of eternity will literally never not be the funniest thing MXTX ever wrote.

Xie Lian was pretty much completely in love with him the second he saw those lanterns (and completely oblivious about it) and then we get the wonderful first kiss underwater moment and Xie Lian is basically drawing hearts around Hua Cheng every time he sees him. While like quietly dying cause he literally has no idea what to do with it. Like at this point he doesn’t even really understand that he is head over heels totally gone for this man.

Until Hua Cheng is like I have a beloved I just haven’t won them over yet. Which he thinks is perfectly reasonable because his self esteem is the worst and he doesn’t understand how he could have won Xie Lian over yet. (He’s only on step 22 of his Marrying Dianxia 3000 step Master Plan ((that he debates throwing out on a regular basis because he doesn’t deserve to even dream about wanting Xie Lian)). So course he’s like yeah I have this wonderful noble beautiful beloved I just haven’t won them over yet wink wink nudge nudge.

But Xie Lian is like oh of course obviously I don’t deserve nice things and fuck I actually wanted him so badly I’m actually in love with him and now I will resign myself to never being happy for his sake. (Their combined self esteem is truly a so low it’s a hole in the ground which is hilarious because they think the other person is to good for them and unattainable forever because they literally have the same neurosis.) So he starts boxing up his feelings forever constantly wanting Hua Cheng and feeling guilty about it and literally dying inside because he wants Hua Cheng like he’s never wanted anyone.

Like essentially books 3 and 5 only happen because Hua Cheng has now cursed them both by saying he has a beloved because Xie Lian believes he isn’t wanted and therefore any nice thing Hua Cheng does is just him being nice and not Hua Cheng pulling out steps 23-34 of his plan thinking he still hasn’t won Xie Lian over. (He has he so has but he shot himself in the foot so badly it’s painful to read).

Like thank the Gods Hua Cheng is so unhinged and created the cave of 10000 Gods cause Xie Lian would literally be at his own wedding to Hua Cheng still convinced he wanted someone else and this was in fact a thing they were doing to solve a case together otherwise.

Like he needed something that unhinged to put 2 and 2 together otherwise he never would have caught on he’s Hua Cheng’s beloved. Meanwhile Hua cheng is like 🥺 he’s going to think I’m a weirdo now and I’m only on step 50 of the plan 🥺 like the two of them wouldn’t have been fucking nasty 2 books ago if he just kept his mouth shut and didn’t cockblock himself so violently.
