Ok listen.

As we all prepare for S4 V2, I've seen a lot of people make some really awesome suggestions for what Eddie might be playing on the guitar on top of the trailer, and for what reason.

The most common reason I've seen so far is he's doing it to save Nancy (or someone in the Upside Down). The most common (or at least popular) song suggestions I've seen have been either Separate Ways by Journey (bc of the trailer) or Master of Puppets or For Whom the Bell Tolls, both by Metallica, all of which are amazing options that totally fit the season.

Now, if you'll give me a second to just... Adjust my clown shoes here...

I don't think Separate Ways is going to be the song, because I really don't think the Duffers would give it away in the trailer. It's perfect for the trailer, but I don't think it's what Eddie plays in the show.

Going off the most popular and well-fitting song choices, that leaves either of the Metallica songs. But Nancy doesn't really strike me as the type of person whose favorite song is from a metal rock band. So who is Eddie playing for?

Hang on, I've got more.

Now, both those songs have been released by the time S4 takes place. However, only one of them was released prior to the events of S3: For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Let's look at the lyrics in the first verse.

Come on.

"Constant chill deep inside" and "run through the endless grey"? Sounds like the Upside Down to me.

"Stiffened wounds test their pride"? Physical and emotional wounds that Billy has from what happened to him in S3, and from lasting in the Upside Down this long alone, now having to put that aside to help the group?

"Men of five"? Who is in the Upside Down right now? Steve, Robin, Nancy, Eddie... That's four. Billy makes five.

"Still alive through the raging glow"? STILL ALIVE.

Look, all I'm saying is, an alive and Upside Down-weathered Billy making his return to For Whom the Bell Tolls to kick some demobat ass??? It fits SO WELL and it literally couldn't get any better than that.
