Hello, and thank you for asking!

Yes it is entirely safe to do so, infact we manufacture ones of our own that still remain undetectable on the battlefield as this seems to be a reoccurring problem! If you're using a non standard SSC tracking tag for your metalmark, we recommend taking it off before going on sorties as enemy forces could detect you this way.

It also may be good to try and provide your metalmark with more enrichment time or attention, as they'll be less likely to hide away and want to stick by your side.
