‼️🇲🇽 American tourists in Mexico try to shut down restaurant in Jalisco because Mariachi music is “too loud”
🔸 Source: Fernanda Cortes
Jalisco is the birthplace of Mariachis, and their music has been around since the 17th century… y’all don’t get to come over and get rid of it 😭
If you’re a tourist in Mexico (and ANY other place) for god’s sake remember that you’re a TOURIST. You’re VISITING. You don’t get to come here and try to shut down restaurants and bandas because they annoyed you on your two week trip with the family.
If you’re coming to the culture you’ll find the culture, in case that isn’t obvious. If you’re really that annoyed by it, go to Cancún and Cabo San Lucas, as the video said. Or just stay home.

Take a good look at the countries leading/have started the legal battles to hold the IOF accountable -their fights to end IOF terrorism and war crimes, as this should have been done months ago, are now beginning.
So many Palestinian people have been genocided, and the rampant global government inaction has caused chaos, death, and destruction of Gaza... I just hope this leads to a permanent ceasefire and an end to the occupation. I truly do.

Yall wanna hear a kinda funny, kinda sad story about my grandmother and hetero-normativity?
Ok, so... when my grandmother was in her 50s (I was an infant), she met a woman at the Unitarian Church. And, as can happen when you meet your soul mate, this event made it impossible for her to deny parts of herself that she had fiercely hidden her whole life.
All the drama- their affair being found out, the divorce with my grandfather, the court battle over who got the house, happened while I was a baby. Even in my earliest memories, it's just Mama Jo and Oma, and my grandfather lived elsewhere (first his own apartment, then a nursing home, then with us.)
But here's the thing- no one ever explained any of this to me. No one ever sat down and was like "hey, Rosie, so do you know what a lesbian is?" It was the 90s. It was Texas. I think my mom was still kinda processing all this, and just assumed that like... I was gonna figure it out. Don't mention it, let it just be normal. Like I think my mom thought that if she explained the situation, she would be making it weird? I dunno.
But like. In the 90s, in all the movies I had seen and books I had read, do you know how many same sex couples I had seen? Like. 0. Do you know how many "platonic best friend/roommates" I had seen? A lot. I had no context, is what I'm saying.
I literally thought this was a Golden Girls, roommates, besties situation until I was like...I dunno, 11? 12?
It was actually their parrot, an African Grey named Spike, imitating my grandmothers voice saying "Johanna, honey, it's getting late", that triggered the MIND BLOWN moment as I realized that *there's only one master bedroom and it only has 1 waterbed* when all the pieces finally clicked.
Anyway. I think it's a real important thing for kids to know queer people exist, for a lot of reasons, but also because kids can be clueless and it's embarrassing to have your grandmother be outted by a parrot because everyone just thought you'd figure it out on your own.

Anyway, here is my grandma and her wife, my Oma, after they moved to Albuquerque to be artsy gay cowboys and live their best life. They helped run a "Lesbian Dude Ranch" out there (basically just with funding and financial support. As Oma has explained "traditionally, most lesbians don't have a lot of money" so they wrote the checks and let the younger ladies actually run the ranch.)

Total eclipse moves beyond North America, passing through Mexico, US and Canada
Eclipse mania swept across Mexico, the US and Canada as the Moon passed in front of the Sun, eclipsing daylight. Nearly everyone in North America was guaranteed at least a partial eclipse, weather permitting.
It was the largest eclipse audience on the continent: several hundred million people living in or near the path of the shadow, as well as scores of non-natives.
Clouds shrouded much of Texas as the total solar eclipse began its diagonal path over land, starting along the nearly clear Pacific coast of Mexico and heading toward Texas and 14 other US states before entering the North Atlantic near Newfoundland.
Arkansas and northeastern New England were the best places in the US. New Brunswick and Newfoundland in Canada also looked promising.
The show began in the Pacific Ocean before noon EDT. As the darkness of the total eclipse reached the Mexican resort town of Mazatlan, the faces of onlookers were lit only by the screens of their mobile phones.

AMLO's Mexico navigates a web of contradictions. His government touts anti-corruption wins, while the Church faces unsettling allegations. The president defends free speech but criticizes journalists, invoking heroes of the past.

I'm often posting and talking about Mexico and my "mexican point of view" on media and news. This time, however, I feel deeply saddened and disappointed of my country
Yesterday, Jesus Ociel Baena, the first non-binary Mexican magistrate and their partner were found dead in their home in Aguascalientes. Magistrate Jesus Ociel was well known and recognized for their efforts to protect and promot LGBTQIA+ rights in the public sector, specially within the judiciary system.
The details are still unknown, but what it is clear is how Mexico is still a heavily LGBTQIA+-phobic, with media using incorrect pronouns and social media users celebrating the death of a person
Jesus Ociel, we name you and remember your fight for us LGBTQIA+ Mexicans

ILO: China, Russia, Mexico are the only world countries with real wage growth over the past year
The International Labour Organization (ILO) released the latest edition of its annual World Employment and Social Outlook: Trends 2024 (WESO Trends) report on January 10, revealing that China, Russia and Mexico were the only countries in the world where real wages rose by the end of the last year.
The United Nations stated on Wednesday that the global unemployment rate would increase slightly in 2024, expressing concern over stagnant productivity, rising inequality and inflation affecting disposable income.
The UN labour agency claimed that economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed amid central banks’ actions. Nevertheless, global growth in 2023 was slightly higher than expected, with labour markets showing surprising resilience, according to the International Labour Organization. However, real wages declined in most G20 countries as wage growth failed to follow inflation.
Two million more workers are expected to be looking for work in 2024, pushing the global unemployment rate to 5.2 per cent.
