So one things been niggling at my mind whenever I read All Might Critical posts and I wanted to throw my opinion in the ring.
All Might was NOT in the wrong for telling Izuku that he could not become a hero without a quirk.
The proof? Literally every fight Izuku has been in this far. Tell me that Izuku could have survived even the villains at the USJ, not Nomu and Shigaraki, but the gutter punks. He wouldn't have. It wouldn't have been safe for him to enroll into UA as a hero course student, he wouldn't have even gotten in. At best it would be as a non-hero class course, but of course, that's not his dream, it's to be "someone as great as you [All Might]".
It's not cruel, it's realistic.
On top of that, people bash him for leaving Izuku on the roof, but this makes no sense because if he was left by a tall tree, or a deep pond, no one would jump to "this kid is going to commit die". It's ONLY because of the very specific set up from Bakugou. But AM has NO reason to assume Izuku is depressed or suicidal in the slightest.
AM has made some really bad decisions, yes, but these aren't it, they're massive projections from fans.
I'm in a bit of a rush so this might be slightly edited but I felt the need to comment on this.

Can we talk about how this entire My Hero Academia season 7 stage preview panel was just the voice actors/actresses of Izuku, Katsuki, Toga, Ochako, and Shigaraki discussing Bakudeku and Togachako for 50 minutes? 😭 These screenshots were certainly a choice.
We're getting close to endgame. Season 7 or 8 will probably be the last season. We know Horikoshi had recently confided in Bones on what the ending of MHA was going to be so they could start the production process sooner. Now there's a sudden shift of promotional material and interest towards these two ships in particular which is-- interesting.
Tumblr media
Izuocha also briefly appear in the stage discussion but only at around the 40 minute mark near the end. They also made sure to put those screenshots below the Bakudeku apology scene. No hate towards Izuocha of course. I'm just saying: this is not how you treat a pairing in marketing if they were meant to be endgame.
Does this mean anything? Probably not. We've all sung this song before with shounen manga and been hurt in the past. But Bakudeku and Togachako might actually stand a chance here. Regardless if this comes true, I'll still love both pairings and appreciate the time these VAs took to discussing them.

Children throwing tantrums when adults read material made by/for adults in a fandom space made by/for adults about objects that don't exist. You are a guest here, mind your own business. Your tantrums aren't going to change a thing in regards to fandom, bkdk or mha.

honestly some togachako shippers have a real biphobia problem,,, like neither of them are canon lesbians, both have expressed romantic interest in a man before (Izuku), and erasing their attraction to him is actually kinda bad !!

Pretty sad how it took All For One literally possessing Tomura’s body for most of the fandom to realize he is an abusive parental figure.
And even then I see a lot of fans say he was “retconned” into being abusive. I’m not talking about the “Was AFO planning to take over Tomura’s body the whole time a retcon?” discourse (I don’t want to get into that) but those who say “AFO was supposed to be a good father figure to Tomura despite being evil but it got retconned”. Even if the possession plotline is indeed proven to be a retcon, AFO being abusive towards Tomura is most certainly not. Even if it never happened AFO would still be an abusive parent to Tomura. Just because he nicely encouraged him after his failure in Kamino and didn’t directly physically hurt him like Kotaro did doesn’t mean he was supposed to be a good dad whose only real parenting flaw was that he taught his adopted son to be evil. I know we all love the trope of the villain being a good parent (I do too!), but AFO was never meant to be that. How do you look at the malnourished state Shigaraki was in at the start of the story and think AFO was originally intended to be a good, healthy foster father?

~ KATS RANT TIME ~
i really really really really really really really hate when people’s sole reason for not liking a character is because they cannot imagine that character being an actual human being. they look at this character and go “what a bitch” instead of processing that oh, maybe this character is a human person too and feels things the same way everyone else does.
this is about bakugou. specifically. everyone else too but explicitly him rn. because so many people look at this little bastard of a guy and say “he’s so cocky and shallow and rude and prideful” YEAH! YEAH HE FUCKING IS! Y’KNOW WHY? because he’s a human being who has experienced life in a way that led to that kind of behavior.
why in the world does it take him Reaching His Fucking Breaking Point for you to look at him and realize he’s human, too? why? why does he have to cry and express shame and guilt before you finally understand that he isn’t the untouchable god he’d have you believe?
and it makes me so upset because it’s clear as fucking day to me. he’s like that for a reason. a reason that makes complete and total sense given his circumstances. does that make everything he’s done okay? of course not! but it means he’s Human, for crying out loud. and you’d all have him burnt at the stake before understanding that.
i’ve been through it. i understand why he’s like that. and it makes me so upset to see people acting like he’s unlovable or irredeemable. because i know people have looked at me the exact same fucking way. why is it so hard to believe we’ve got feelings too, huh? can you not see the humanity in anyone’s eyes but your own?
i don’t usually get heated about stuff and i try to be mostly chill in fandom whatnot. but this is an issue that really gets me pressed because damn, is that how you think of people in real life too?
anyways. moment of vulnerability over, stepping down off the soapbox.

mha 370, but no spoilers really
I’m sorry that people hate complex stories outside their favorite character, but this is actually such an interesting part of the story and have been a present theme from the start and I, for one, is very happy to see it explored.

I really hate when a mangaka specifically writes a scene that basically broadcast one of the main points of the whole series just for people to dismiss it so easily.
Like in haikyuu with kita's speech about hardwork vs talent. Because, hello!!! Furudate's opinion about the whole thing is very clear but people on TikTok and twitter are still using it to their little fanwars. Or even Horikoshi, whose whole series is just a big argument about hero propaganda and how is so wrong for children's to be in the frontlines, specifically drawing a scene of Eri trying to go and save Deku and Ectoplasma stopping her. And then people go all "Oh the heroes should have just brought Eri with them" as if they weren't talking about bringing a FIVE YEARS OLD to a battlefield. Be ffr.

This just in! Local MHA psycho thinks calling people out over objects is acceptable! Further dehumanizing children, claiming that they are nothing more than objects by making such a comparison! Oh wow, are we ever surprised! Shock! Horror! Antis think children are objects!

Defending Erasermight (Part 1)
“Erasermight has no chemistry…”
Yes, Aizawa and Yagi originally did not have that moment where they clicked like Yamada and Aizawa. Slow burn is a popular fanfic trope which means the shippers don’t mind Aizawa’s initial coldness towards him.
Some people complain about never letting anyone be best friends because lots of ships are exactly that. If you are one of those people, then you can also agree that being good friends doesn’t necessarily mean they are together. They’ve been friends since high school and nothing happened between them yet? It’s doubtful that someone would wait that long to confess romantic feelings.
“Why is it so popular?”
Compared to other MHA ships, Erasermight isn’t too popular. Especially amongst the younger fans who usually ship Erasermic. Fans over the age of 18 tend to be the demographic for them.
“Aizawa also literally hates All Might…”
In the beginning Aizawa shows a distaste for Yagi. His reasoning is because of how he portrays himself as All Might. Pointing out flaws in the hero society that were heavily influenced by the symbol of peace. From the bench scene alone you can tell that Aizawa doesn’t hate Yagi as a person. After the USJ Aizawa, Yamada, Kayama, and Yagi went out for drinks. Towards the end he holds him back to say thank you for saving him back then. Aizawa showing affection isn’t common anyway. At the beginning he wasn’t too nice to Midoriya, yet no one talks about that anymore.
“Erasermic>>>”
Every ship is valid. I may not ship Erasermic personally, but I can admit that they do make sense.
(This is an opinion!! You are allowed to disagree!!)

I'm just gonnna say it since the manga is almost over. If bakudeku isn't canon by the end of the series, I am begging all of you guys to do one thing.
One
fucking
thing.
Do not, under ANY circumstance, try to frame it as Horikoshi queerbaiting or intentionally being homophobic.
Would it be a more satisfying payoff to their character arcs? Yes.
Is the currently foreshadowed boy-meet-girl lazy romance one of the weakest parts of MHA's writing? Yes.
But you cannot assume that Hori has genuinely considered bkdk in a romantic context, or that Jump would even allow it. There's a lot built for an intimate relationship between Bakugou and Deku but unless Hori says that's where the story is going and then backs out that does not count as queerbaiting.
If the manga ends and the entire fandom devolves into just that argument, I will not forgive you guys. I'm just asking you guys to use just a fraction of the brain power you apply to bakudeku meta posts to this possibility.
I'm trusting you, okay?

Well, it looks like I was immediately blocked from replying but in case anyone migrates over here from it. In response to this reply…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously, I don’t condone it or think that Endeavor’s actions are correct or good in the source material. But we are playing with the medium of fiction here. In the form of a distilled short-form joke.
It’s meant to reflect the observation that other people have made: that Dabi’s personality and affect can occasionally remind them of a cat, specifically the tumblr joke variety like Miette. Not any serious discourse on either character or their relationship.
I think it’s important to remember that when discussing fiction that fanfic/fanart/jokes/headcanons jokes etc are in some ways removed from the actual canon. And that’s fine.
For example, I haven’t watched the anime yet, but I’ve seen people discussing the characters in Bungo Stray Dogs who are based on actual historical authors. If you read the real Dazai’s No Longer Human, it has both merits and drawbacks. Including misogyny and very flippant writing about violence against women. Now, re-envisioning that author in the anime doesn’t mean they are condoning misogyny (and it doesn’t mean the book itself has no value). The same way users who make fan edits of Hannibal likely don’t condone serial killing.
You can engage with media in a critical way, but also playfully do so without explicitly supporting the totality of a character’s actions.
A mutual on my other blog once said it way more poetically than me when talking about literature here if you’re interested:
