Okay, I keep seeing this everywhere and it's driving me insane.

Everytime someone points out how a teenage girl is oversexualized in a show-- with half her chest being shown for some odd reason-- someone else comes in and talks about how that person shouldn't complain because there's a man that walks around half naked in the show when these two things are fundamentally different???

Best example of this is Yaoyorozu and Kirishima from Mha

A man's chest being exposed and a woman's chest being exposed are two very different things. That's why it's perfectly fine for men to go to the beach wearing only swim shorts because they're covering the only intimate part of their body. Women cover their chest and private because those are the intimate part of their body.

The sexualization of men and women are very different. Stop comparing them. I'm aware that Kirishima and the other anime boys are sexualized but society has different standard for men and women. When women are sexualized, when teenage girls are sexualized, they are objectified in a way men aren't most of the time. Women are sexualized ALL the time and most of the time it's not welcome so stop comparing that shit.

The experiences of men and women are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Women are subject to sexualization from the age of eleven, sometimes even younger, and that's why you have characters like Sarada, who was what, twelve? in the early manga and was literally dressed in that abomination of outfit and walking around in 6 inch heels when she's literally a child. A child.

So back to my point, stop comparing a teenage girl in a dangerous industry walking around half naked (or completely naked in Hagakure's case) to a teenage boy that can literally turn his skin into armour because once again, men have one intimate area and women. have. TWO!!

There's also no reason for her or Hagakure to walk around like that when there's an in universe solution to their problem-- Mirio's DNA infused suit. Kirishima could do that as well if he wanted but once again, completely different situations here.

Also it kinda says something when its mostly the female characters quirks that require them to be half naked/naked (Yayorozu, Hagakure, Midnight, probably more...)

Also this redesign for Momo's suit looks great and suits her personality really well. If she really needs to make some really big like a cannon, you can add a zipper for that specific use but she rarely needs to make that sort of thing and it would take a lot of time to adding a zipper is hardly a big deal. She mostly makes things that she can literally create from her arms but for some reason she's always making from the weird boob window area.

Plus isn't quirk society super advanced? Why does she have a whole bookshelf on her hip when she can get like a tablet or some fancy glasses/goggles like Edith from Spider-Man: Far from Home

Literally all the girls in shipudden looked amazing in their ninja clothes without being sexualized, it's possible to do that Boruto too. And I don't give a fuck if it's modern times, do you see military women or police women dressed half naked? NO!

They're not regular civilians in Konoha who can dress any way they want, it has to be practical and Sarada's timeskip design? Very much impractical. I don't think this redesign is perfect cause the jacket looks a little too long and might get in the way of her reaching for her weapons pouch but it's way better than the original

Sorry I'm not comfortable seeing a sixteen year old dress like that? Sarada has been consitently sexualized in the manga and it's not cool. Idk why y'all are defending it. I'm in my relationship drama phase I guess, but I keep thinking about Dabi in new territory when it comes to how he feels about Hawks' and unsure of how to handle himself; so instead he focuses on not blatantly exposing his crush by playing everything down and brushes stuff off. Except he doesn't really know when to stop, either, and it gets to the point where he's making Hawks think he doesn't give a shit about him and isn't interested in getting to know him or be close. And he doesn't really notice what he's doing until Hawks has pretty much given up on his "one-sided" crush and decides to do what Dabi wants from him and just distances himself.

Toga watches all of this go down with the most dead look in her eyes.

hnng clarifications time

i have 200 too many ocs but im going to be listing off second, third, and fourth gen connections (like parent and child) to hopefully avoid confusion and also hopefully stop people from thinking i gave katsuki bakugou like 6 kids

starting with my second gen (visionaries)

koto aizawa is shota aizawa and hizashi yamada's ony child, shes a very busy person being a a kometologist (quirk scientist), biologist, and she's back in college working on an evolutionary science degree while also being the 1a ua homeroom teacher.

yua kirishima is the oldest of the bakugou-kirishima family kids, shes biologically the daughter of mina ashido and eijirou kirishima but she was legally adopted by katsuki bakugou at some point so legally she has 3 parents. shes a professional soccer player and the creator of any organization that helps people with mutation quirks.

takumi bakugou is the middle child of the bakugou-kirishima family kids, hes biologically and legally an only child but he grew up with three parents same as yua. hes married to a demon who eats people, but takumi is special so he doesnt get eaten (excluding the time he forced him to eat some of his arm but thats a story for another time!)

mansa bakugou is the youngest child of the bakugou-kirishima family kids, shes biologically only related to eijirou but legally eijirou and mina are her parents despite her last name being bakugou, shes a little bit dead as well

takayuki midoriya is the oldest child of the midoriya family kids, his personality is a 10/10 but his arms are a 1/2

kayo midoriya is the middle child of the midoriya family kids, shes a journalist and can bullshit her way out of any situation

ichirou midoriya is the youngest of the midoriya family kids, hes like kayo but evil because hes a politician

aito kaminari is the oldest of the kaminari family kids, the eyes are the gateway to the soul but if you make eye contact with him you will die in 3 minutes or else #quirkthings

iku kaminari is the middle child of the kaminari family kids, shes not allowed to talk to poeple

hoshi kaminari is the youngest of the kaminari family kids, hes deaf and has 2, count em, two loving partners

hideo iida is the oldest of the iida family kids, hes a stripper

suiren kuroiro is the oldest child of the kuroiro family kids, shesperfect but in the annoying way

yami kuroiro is the youngest child of the kuroiro family kids, he pretended to be gay for 2 years then disappeared after outting the guy he was dating (coughcoughtakumibakugoucoughcough)

keiichi tokoyami is the oldest of the tokoyami family kids, hes very insecure about his appearence be nice to him

ren tokoyami is the youngest of the tokoyami family kids, shes slimey pls dont put her in a bathtub she wont be able to get out by herself and she will cry

michi sero is hanta sero's only child, hes a forensic analytical scientist

etsuko aoyama is yuga aoyama's only child, shes a model and basically a princess

kasumi tokage is setsuna tokage and shoto todorokis only child but theres so much family drama right now she might just cut them both off

eimi ojirou is the only child of mashirao ojirou and toru hagakure, they have a severe hatred towards their mutation quirk

now for the third gen (unethereal)

tadashi bakugou is the oldest child of takumi and atsui bakugou, hes a model with severe anxiety who voluntarily became american

naoki bakugou is the middle child of takumi and atsui bakugou, they have body dysmorphia and are an assassin for funsies

akina bakugou is the youngest child of takumi and atsui bakugou, shes a twitch streamer who loves COD and is 1 of 4 in a lesbian polycule

mei villin is the only child of aito kaminari and atsui bakugou, he is dating an arsonist and is a ua support course study graduate

kae midoriya is the only child of takayuki midoriya, shes a professional animator and loves worms

ayano tachibana is koto aizawa and her husband, reiji tachibana's, only child, shes very sensitive to loud noises and reminds me of the "you have cried 47 times" thing from spongebob

emori kaminari is hoshi kaminari, etsuko aoyama, and michi sero's oldest child, he is in grippy sock jail for his crimes of... schizophrenia and severe anxiety. nice kid, was admitted against his will tho.

fukumi aoyama is hoshi kaminari, etsuko aoyama, and michi sero's youngest child, she is a critical care nurse who doesnt understand that overworking herself is ~bad~

finally the fourth gen (vexation)

rui bakugou is the only child of tadashi and sophie bakugou, shes the reason tadashi wanted to become american and move to fucking IDAHO. shes just a baby tho so i cant be mad at her too much, but shes commited a horrible crime and she will pay for it at some point

general society is such an underthought aspect of mha. obviously there’s the big things like the obsession over heroic quirks and the demonisation of villainous quirks. quirkless people are dismissed entirely but i don’t think we talk about how society in general would have to handle a world with super powers.

we know after afo’s first uprising, the government overcorrected and outlawed public quirk usage. we know people have their quirks registered and go through quirk counselling as well as a type of gym class where they practice under teacher supervision.

how in the hell is that supposed to work?

the closest equivalent i can think of is mental health services. someone would have to study for a long time to be able to pursue quirk counselling as a career. it’s also a highly personalised system: everyone has a different quirk - even similar ones have different activations, triggers, exceptions and drawbacks - so no two sessions could ever be the same. if anyone’s been through mental health services, you know how rough it is; it’s an overworked, underpaid system and if you live somewhere that only offers a few free visits, it can also be expensive.

and that’s an elective service.

almost everyone on the planet would need quirk counselling.

there’s no way they could implement such a labour intensive and individual public system and we literally see that they can’t.

we see the gym class in amajiki’s flashback and he only has a few minutes with his teacher before he’s chided for not being more impressive and utilising his quirk to the fullest and they move on to the next student. say a standard class is twenty students like it is at ua. that leaves just over two minutes for each student to learn and practice their quirks. you can’t focus on just one kid per lesson bc what will the other nineteen do? do teachers also have to have a degree in quirk counselling? is that part of becoming a phys ed teacher or is it some random joe schmo trying to wrap his head around literal super powers?

given that inko goes to garaki - a doctor - to confirm izuku’s quirklessness, it can be assumed that quirk counselling is entwined with the medical system. i don’t know if you’ve ever had to apply for a specialist before but you can be on their waiting list for a while. a quirk counsellor is essentially a specialist. are there subcategories of counsellors? do you focus on either emitter, transformation or mutation the way doctors become cardiologists, paediatricians and neurologists? or is one person expected to be equally knowledgeable about all three?

we see through toga that her counsellor identified her need for blood but they didn’t find a way to curb those instincts or even find a supplement for her. she’s left to be abused by her family for something she can’t control bc it’s literally in her dna. compare that to iida who knows he needs orange juice to power his quirk. his entire family are pro heroes so it would be easy to assume they could employ a private quirk counsellor the same way richer people can employ private doctors.

how many people have specific requirements due to their quirks? changes in their physiology that have to be treated the same way nutritional deficiencies and allergies do? even people without mutations probably have those requirements: does kirishima’s shark teeth mean he’s an obligate carnivore? does mina’s acid change her ph levels and what vitamins and minerals she needs? how would they figure that out? quirk counselling.

what about kids like touya who would need extensive counselling so he could figure out how to live with his quirk without hurting himself? kaminari essentially has seizures and they’re so normal to him and everyone around him that they’re the butt of jokes. they wouldn’t be a one and done patient; there’s always going to be people that need continued support the exact same way there’s people that need developmental and disability support. there would be so many quirks that harm their user, are they just taught to bury their quirks? as if that wouldn’t cause any physical or mental consequences?

governments can’t create a system that applies to only some people, we’re expected to believe they’ve made one that applies to all of them?

#bnha #my hero academia #mha meta #i imagine its similar to therapy in that the first session would be free since its probably required in order to register a child’s quirk #they probably figure out activation in that time and thats it #onto the next kid bc there will always be another kid #you want more information on your child’s power? you better be able to pay for more sessions #even quirkless people need to be fully assessed to ensure theyre quirkless #i doubt anyone else is as interested in this as i am but it feels like just another world building aspect horikoshi just kinda skipped #quirk counselling is just sort of thrown in with toga and curious and it becomes just another concept that is brought up and discarded #quirk counselling quirklessness mutant prejudice the quirk singularity theory general mutations outside of mutant quirks #theres so many little interesting concepts that are never given the development they deserve #and when they are like in the last few chapters its done in such a shallow handwavy way that i wish hed just leave them alone altogether #no wonder the plf exists quirks are so suppressed in society while also being a status symbol #and yet its a completely hypothetical advantage if they dont become a hero or a villain #if a kid has a heroic quirk theyre held on a pedestal and if they have a villainous one theyre demonised at best and abused at worst #koichi was almost given a fine bc he was using his quirk to get through foot traffic quicker how is there not a riot every year about #quirk freedom and rights violations?#and yet its completely glossed over #go beyond plus ultra #coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt
