“I was supposed to fall in love with you & you were meant to break my heart. You see, I fell for you even before you gave me any reason to — I started adoring your eyes & your voice became my favourite sound. I know nothing about you yet your name started to bring smile to my face. I started to want you in all blunt ways — didn’t think what would happen, couldn’t care less. Little did I know that you came to me as a lesson & I lost it all before I could have anything. I didn’t fall in love with you because universe conspired us to meet or our souls knew each other. I was cursed to love you & my heart was doomed to break, for all the souls I wrecked, all the eyes that wept & all those emotions I didn't care about. I had broken hearts — perhaps, that’s why our paths had to cross so I could feel what I’d done to other. Now, I know we’re not meant to be yet I want you to know that you’re one of the most beautiful things I ever felt.” by memoirsofbilal (via Instagram)

Reality only resides in the present. Perspective is the key to everything, but is it Alice’s or a Yale ?

Maybe my soul is the home of darkness but they never cease to bring the light. O dear, I have stars in my heart, they are no longer afraid of the night.

“when you measure your growth by your own growth and no one else’s, you allow your flowers to bloom at their own pace and open space to attract the peace that comes with being unbothered with what doesn’t concern you.”

I watched that name slip off your tongue
Watched as you realized what you’d done
Watched as you recognized
Heartbreak
In the eyes of your lover
Watched love flash across your features
But it was never
Mine
For the taking

When I first started to post my poetry on social media, micro poetry was one of my favourite styles to use. Because they are direct, simple, yet so much can be said in so few words. You might not think it, but sometimes, they are harder to write than longer pieces. Because the words have to sit just right to work. Like small puzzles for the poet to get correct!
This is an older piece of mine, but it still very much applies to the kind of person I am today. And for those close to my heart, I always give you this, my promise.

You said we were soulmates
And it warmed my heart
So much
So much to know
That in a world like ours
There’s still light
