Hi! I just binge-read all of WDDM yesterday and I am IN LOVE, both with midnightstarlight’s writing and your art! (She’s totally right, the way you draw Marinette’s hair is AMAZING and I would kill for hair that looks like that). That being said, (please don’t see this as criticism of your work, it’s only a suggestion) would you consider drawing her with slightly more Asian features? I just love that she’s part Chinese and would really like to see that highlighted more in your art for the story.

Hey there! I’m glad you’ve been enjoying WDDM! Also, drawing glamorous hair is a way for me to vicariously live through my art, because my hair is a frizzy, wavy mess unless it’s loaded with hair products. XD 

In regards to drawing Marinette with more Asian features, I can totally understand why people choose to draw her that way and I think it’s great when people want to embrace that side of her heritage.

I choose to draw her more the way she’s canonically presented, a kinda half-and-half blend of both her parents. In some of the earlier 3D models art she had brown, slightly upturned eyes, and I think that looked suuuuuper pretty too. Also, I believe in the earliest version of the story she was originally going to have both parents be of Chinese descent???? I could be wrong but I could’ve sworn I read that somewhere. That would be really fun to draw, actually.

Anyway, since a person of mixed race may be born with features that are more prominent from their mother or father’s side, or an in-between blend of the two, it’s very unpredictable how children will look like even within the same family. My mom has parents with European descent and native American descent. She was born with darker skin and hair/eyes, but her sister has light skin and hair. My DNA is from all over the place so I don’t really look like I’m from “anywhere” but I find that cool too.

It makes me wonder what Adrien and Marinette’s kids will look like. Will some of them look more like Adrien’s side with lighter color traits, or will they also adopt some features from Sabine’s side, or Italian like Tom’s? It’s fun to think about.
