Seiyuu Birthday: Lilia's Midorikawa Hikaru

This year is Midorikawa’s 35th year in the voice acting industry. 

His recent projects include the voice of Henry in “Requiem of the Rose King” and Medjed in “Oh, Suddenly Egyptian Gods 2.”

Midorikawa has a monthly online show of just himself being pleasant, sometimes featuring other voice actors. The most recent episode (released on April 28th) features Sato Takuya and Terashima Takuma, talking a lot about how much they like Midorikawa.

On the most recent episode of Twisted Radio Station Silver’s VA Shimazaki also shares an anecdote about Midorikawa inspiring his interest in voice acting when he was a child, partially translated here! (And available on YouTube)

Midorikawa has had roles in over 300 anime/OVA and 400 video games since his debut in 1988, voicing characters from works such as SLAM DUNK, Naruto, CODE GEASS, Granblue Fantasy, My Hero Academia, ONE PUNCH MAN and more.

Likewise to instantly recognizing Midorikawa Hikaru in his first episode of Detective Conan, I had an almost instant recognition of Megumi Hayashibara (Haibara) as well. Just from the way she said "Bingo!"

- they took Ōtori Eiichi’s character from Uta no Prince-sama, i.e. his hair, eyes, clothes plus his voice actor Midorikawa Hikaru

- they took Eiichi and Otoya’s ... ambiguous scene standing in a burning flower field and turned it into a tragically romantic scene

- they turned Eiichi’s younger brother Eiji into his (”adopted”) younger sister and made their relationship romantic (and added control and grooming into the mix)

Meet the Seiyuu: Lilia Vanrouge

Lilia’s VA  Midorikawa has voiced many characters in iconic series such as SLAM DUNK’s Rukawa Kaede and Gundam Wing’s Heero Yuy (the performance that inspired Shimazaki Nobunaga—the VA of Lilia’s adopted son, Silver—to go into voice acting as well).

In interviews Midorikawa has explained that he first formed an interest in voice acting in elementary school after watching the anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” and as a child he decided to, one day, join the same agency as the VA of the main character after reading about the company in a voice acting magazine.

That is now his current agency, Aoni Production.

As the eldest son in his family he was originally intended to take over the family pharmacy, but he defied his parents in order to pursue his dream of voice acting.

Midorikawa made his voice acting debut in 1988 and has since had roles in over 300 anime series and OVA and 400 video games.
