I take all of my pictures myself using a tripod (or just leaning it against a wall or books lol) and using a Bluetooth camera clicker! I know some people use professional cameras, or have others take pictures of them, or even record themselves in the poses and then screenshot the perfect timings (I’m not that advanced lol). I’ve been feeling disheartened lately when it comes to Instagram. I hate to compare myself to others, but it’s impossible not to see these other accounts growing and wonder why mine feels so stagnant. It’s impossible not to look at someone’s account and think, “why do they have this many followers and I don’t? What am I doing wrong?” And I know that growth is not the goal. But I want to help as many people as possible, and that means reaching as many people as possible. But then I step back and remind myself that we all have different paths. Those people whose accounts I’m looking at have worked their asses off too. Maybe they’re doing more than I am behind the scenes. Or maybe they just got lucky. It’s impossible to know. What I do know is that, at the end of the day, whether I help 5 people or 5000 people, I’m making a difference. I’m not gonna say I miss summer, but I do miss this rocky, misty beach. I wanna share a lil honesty with you guys here: even though this was one of my favorite pictures from this shoot, I didn’t initially want to share it. I’ve created a space that’s all about showing myself as authentically as possible (while still creating aesthetically pleasing photos), and this picture felt inauthentic to me. Because this isn’t what my body looks like 99% of the time. I’m hardcore posing, the lighting is in my favor, and this swimsuit is super flattering. But I still love this photo. I love the shells in the foreground, I love the way my hair is curling around my shoulder. And, while I don’t look like this most of the time, this photo is still me. There’s no FaceTune or Photoshop going on. But just like this photo is still very much me, so are the three other photos in this carousel. In fact, the last photo was taken in one of those moments of beachy bliss, where you know your body is squeezing out of your bathing suit from all angles, but you feel so happy and glorious and beautiful that it doesn’t even matter. And those are the most powerful, special, and memorable moments at the end of the day. Fun fact: I used to HATE smiling for pictures. I don’t like the way my eyes squeeze up, my cheeks pudge out, and my lips get thin. I adopted this tight lipped, smize-esque face in all pictures. It made my cheekbones stand out, gave me a strong jawline, and let me keep my eyes open in pictures. But I never looked happy. Sure, I still love taking moody, smize-y photos every now and then. Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 For those that don’t know, I lived in Canada for five years while I got my Bachelor’s Degree at Concordia University. I was only 19 when I moved, knowing only one other person in Montreal. In those five years, I made friends and lost friends, had my apartment broken into twice, went to Igloofest and the Grand Prix. I got far too drunk at Cock & Bull, Moose Bawr, and McKibbons, just to name a very small few. Dragged my hungover self out of bed to get coffee from Tim’s, and ate probably more poutine than anyone ever should. Canada will always be a special place to me because it’s where I truly became the woman I am. I came into my own, asserted my independence, and learned to stand up for myself. So much of who I am comes from my time in Canada. ❤️ P.S.
