because it’s october and i like what i like i’m currently mentally living at the intersection of carrie/miss collins and mob/reigen. so i want to share a few pieces of mp100 fanwork that do a more intense and darker examination of mob’s psychic powers and the internal conflict they could lead to than what we see in the show or the manga, and/or take a bit of inspiration from the visual and emotional themes of carrie. because that’s really cool, to me.

these pieces include explicit content, age gap, underage etc. so obviously don’t proceed to my sfw descriptions or to the works themselves if those are things you would prefer to stay away from <3

first off- these two fics by snowtears. snowtears has written a lot of excellent work for this ship and these two are among my favorites because they really delve into the potential for mob to be conflicted, hurting, overwhelmed by these powers that have always been too much for him. i really enjoy the exploration of how this could worsen as he gets older and how the weight of it all would harm not only mob, but reigen as well.

Pig’s Blood: underage + rated E

from reigen’s POV. a beautifully claustrophobic and angsty oneshot of reigen and mob having a tryst in a car parked in a remote place, ostensibly chosen for privacy and safety. mob’s intense emotions are channeled outward as volatile, powerful psychic energy that does damage to the car as they are inside of it.

i’ll let it speak for itself from here but it’s haunting and i love it. i think you can read it without much familiarity with mp100 besides the basic concept and still come away in awe.

Scarlet Letter: underage + rated E

a prequel to the previous fic - i prefer to read them in the order listed here but snowtears mentions in the author’s notes that you can read them either way.

this one is from mob’s POV and it’s heartwrenching. he’s struggling against himself, against his powers, and against the misunderstandings of others. he can just barely get what he wants from reigen, but never all of it, never enough and never exactly the right way. it really hits on that painful adolescent feeling of being trapped in your own life, trapped in your youth where you have no power, and reaching for an adult for all the wrong reasons. because you want them, and think maybe if you get them to want you back, you can get some of that power and agency that you think all adults must have.

i love this artist... this kind of full color single illustration with the rendering is kind of a rarity from them from what i’ve seen and i’m so glad this is the subject matter that spoke to them. their style is so fun and loose but still hits on these gorgeous details. i’d argue this applies to both the actual visual look and the tone- at times there is all the levity and humor in the world in their work but when they touch on something serious it sticks with you. they do a lot of age swap, gender swap or both of mob and reigen as well as drawing them together as they are in canon and all of it is worth a look! their work is sometimes suggestive re: an age gap relationship
