9. “What’re you afraid of?”

You and Milo have spent the last two hours asking each other questions to get to know each other more intimately.

It’s been a wonderful date, and you already feel so much closer to him.

Despite this, though, his next question has you hesitating.

“What’re you afraid of?” His tone is unassuming and gentle, as always. You know he’d never push you, but because you want so badly to share everything with him, you push yourself.

You begin to explain your worst fears, most of them entwined with one another. Your voice is quiet, and you can only bear to glance at him every so often.

When you’re finished, there’s only a moment of silence before he pulls you into a hug. It nearly steals the air from your lungs. He’s so warm, those big arms enveloping you wholly, and you can feel his heartbeat coaxing yours to slow. Even his scent comforts you. Relaxing against him like this, your vision begins to blur with tears.

He thanks you for telling him something so vulnerable, and that he feels grateful getting to know you—all of you.

You quietly waited for the man you called your lover, hoping he could explain to you why he had been acting so weird for the past few days. You didn't mind... You would accept him no matter what, but you just wished he would've told you sooner. It wasn't anything serious enough to break up over, but it did irk you a little. He didn't have to keep secrets from you of all people!!!

"Y/N..." You heard Toushirou Hijikata say, his voice was, for a lack of a better word, rather pathetic sounding. It was similar in the tone he gave when you refused to let him leave the house at 3 am to get another pack of cigarettes. The next few words shocked you the most. "I need a hug."

Your eyes widened and you took pity on the other, moving so your arms were around him and his head could rest on your shoulder. The two of you stayed like that for a good few minutes before he pulled back with a heavy sigh, admitting to you what had been going on.

"A cursed sword?" You bit your lip, desperately trying to stifle the giggle that threatened to emerge.

"Yes... I know it sounds stupid, but-"

"I believe you, I just think it's a bit ironic. I'm glad you're back to normal, though... Do you want another hug?" He flashed a quick and small smile with a nod, gladly accepting the hug.

Do you have any stuffed animals?

He laughs, crossing his arms over his chest. “Actually, I do. Hop gave me a Charmander plush ages ago, and that’s always with me. I was also given a Duraludon plush, very recently. From someone else. But we don’t have to get into that!”

Do you like cuddling?

His golden eyes widen just slightly, and he makes a noise under his breath. “You’re awfully curious.” He shifts his weight onto the other leg, looking at you with an odd expression. It’s something between intrigue and concern.

“I do—who doesn’t, right? You’re probably wondering, well: I can be big or little spoon. I like being close, so cuddling is pretty natural for me. Anytime is fine! I like…” He finally pauses, seemingly struggling to put this last thought into words. “—You can sit on my lap, if you’d like.”
