9: ohhhhhh ok . So . Man what oc do I have that isn’t weird. Uhm. Uhhh. Uhhhh. Ok so . Like . it’s probably “No pictures! Whoops!” this thing is greasy icky yucky and I don’t even have an image for it because I just got the idea to make it today and I DONT have a good design nailed down for it. It certainly is. An oc. That I have.

6. Ok. So. No pictures! Whoops! is an amazing example of my process. It’s just:

i see a thing

i think “that would be really funny/cool/crazy as an object oc

i draw a sketch of it and then simplify the design a bit (ditti’s greeen wisteria is a good example! For a character I want to draw a lot, I need a shape that’ll be EASY to draw a lot and make it look semi consistent)

slap a few personality things on there that would probably fit and maybe some extra accessories and. That’s it lol. Literally

like, examples here:

Hydrangea was just me going “I want a nice plant oc that’s a bush. What would work?” oh! A hydrangea bush is fine (her name was originally Hydrangea Bush! I shortened it to hydrangea later)

RIRU was made as a doppelgänger to BIAS alumni cucked from RIP2. BIAS (a camp) alumni cucked. So I made it RIP(a camp) RUNNER UP (a placement). Messed around, didnt want a “2nd” on there so I put a lighting bolt and made the eye and arm fucked up of course cause of tesla. originally they were a lot nastier too !

i don’t remember how I made loveletter lol

pc is genuinely just the icon for the subeteanatanoseidesu main channel with horns derived from my other pfp character ellie’s second form(so. Meika hime and mikoto basically)

one time I saw a video about ghost plants and thought it was cool

Weekly VocaJournal #2 (30/4 - 05/6)

This week was super stacked in terms of discovery, it's hard to pick out what to feature here. Didn't even have time to dig into the Digital Stars 2022 songs I was interested in. Let's start off with...

A4。- Elephant in the Museum (ft. KAFU)

Groovy piece of electroswing (or maybe just straight up jazz? The line is blurry). I think KAFU could stand to be a little bit louder in the mix, but otherwise the whole thing sounds and looks like something from an artist that consistently get a million views minimum.

myth - Raimei (ft. flower)

The trippy visuals in the PV contrast with the calmness of the song, shaped through minimalistic instruments and a quiet, whispery flower. Combined, it makes for a great atmosphere. Digging through the producer's YT uploads reveals a varied palette of songs, so this will be someone I keep an eye on in the future. Also, not even 150 views? Really?

Kashuu Ryousuke - Mairi (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

The grainy quality of the instrumentals, a stilted Yukari that almost blends with the music, and the simple visuals of a girl staring right at your soul combines into a piece that transports you right in the middle of an uncomfortably hot summer. The fan doesn't help at all, and was that a demon or is the heat just making you hallucinate? Didn't know vapor rock was a thing, but I do now.

Yugica - 蛾想 (ft. Meika Mikoto)

There's a Vocaloid 'subgenre' I think of as "dark and edgy with dry vocals," with Hiiragi Kirai and ¿?shimon being the first two names that pop up when I think about it (and oh look, both of them have a new song!) With the past few songs they've uploaded, Yugica has been permanently enshrined in my mind as a producer of this 'genre', setting themself apart with their use of Meika Mikoto instead of the staple flower or Miku. For another good song in this 'genre', KODOKULOVE's has recently released a new song.

葵海ユウキ - ナイネアネモネ (ft. Tsurumaki Maki)

Calm lofi with a cutesy, subdued Maki. This is the first song of this producer (who I'm having difficulty romanizing the name of, Aomi Yuuki? Ami Yuuki?), and I look forward to see what they do next. For more lofi, LikeA has recently released a Miku cover of their song.

Haniwa/American folk song workshop - Saite (ft. Voiceroid Kizuna Akari, Unknown Voice Synth)

Refreshing, uplifting rock as a background for a spoken poem delivered by voice synths in a genre VocaDB labels as 'poemloid'. Haniwa has been using that unknown voice synth for their last few songs, and I'm curious as to what it is since the output feels more natural than the Yukari voiceroid they usually use (sorry Yukari). The YT comments are mostly praising the poem, which is really motivating me to learn Japanese even harder.

Harumakigohan & Kitani Tatsuya - Moonlight (ft. Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin

To close off this entry, I have to go with the song that managed to trick me into listening to it three times: First the ProSeka version because ooh MEIKO, then the Vocaloid version because ooh Harumakigohan upload, then the producers' self-cover version because ooh Kitani Tatsuya upload. And the song is good so I can't even be mad about it. I picked the Vocaloid version because it was interesting to hear Harumakigohan's iconic Miku and Kitani Tatsuya's rocker Rin in one song and have them sound great next to each other and also this is a Vocaloid-centric account.

Don't Have Much to Say About These but They're Still Good

CircusP - Detrimental (ft. Tsurumaki Maki, Big Al): Groovy synthwave. Big Al could stand to be louder tho.

Mitsubachi bocchi - EDEN (ft. Kagamines): Anime OP-esque rock with Bibi's powerful tuning.

Yunosuke - Awake Now (ft. Hatsune Miku): The full Miku cover is of the ProSeka song is now out and uplifted by Osamu's full-bodied Vocaloid tuning (I have beef with the way Vocaloids are usually tuned on Proseka songs).

Pluto - 248년의 밤 | 248年の夜 (ft. Fukase, VY1): Piano ballad (the artist labels their songs as 'newage piano') with an interesting combination of Vocaloids. The Vocaloids' bland tuning reduces the impact the song could've had, but the instrumental part was good enough to make me want to see what they do next.

PinocchioP - Reincarnation Apple (ft. Hatsune Miku): PinnochioP's iconic songwriting with thoughtful lyrics. It's great, not much to say here.
