Dancing with the Double-Edged Sword (Ch. 11)
Bruno Madrigal x Original Female Character
Chapter Rating: T (mentions of recreational drug use; descriptions of kissing; language)
(Masterlist)
It wasn’t even lunch by the time the news had spread. Early-bird patrons at the cantina had come up to her, asking questions, desperately wanting to get more details about the rumors spreading through the village.
“You and the Madrigal boy?” one of her older patrons asked, sitting at the bar as she poured him a beer.
“Yes, señor , me and Bruno Madrigal,” she nodded, amused by his tone and the look on his face.
“I’m happy for you, mija , but I have to be honest, he’s a strange one, that boy,” he went on, the ends of his mustache getting coated in the beer foam.
She laughed. “It’s one of the things I like about him,” she shrugged.
As she worked the cantina with her brother, she heard more and more ridiculous rumors. In all honesty, she found the whole thing entertaining, funny even.
“No, Doña Santos , we’re not engaged,” she said to one of the patrons at a table, “and my parents did not arrange anything.”
“Aye, Amelia, that Madrigal is bad luck, you know. I’ll say an extra prayer this Sunday for you, ¿dale? ” she responded before sipping her wine.
“I appreciate your concern and I can tell you wholeheartedly Bruno is not bad luck,” she said, unfazed by the woman’s statement.
By the time the evening approached and the workers began to flood in after a long day of labor, Mila felt she had discussed her relationship with every patron that day. Each person that came through the door had questions or shared some ridiculous rumor they heard from someone else.
“This is your life from now on, you know that?” Leo said as she brought dirty glasses back to the bar.
“They’ll have to stop at some point,” she shrugged, grabbing a rag to clean and reset tables.
She had just finished serving a large group of farmers when Bruno came in. He wore a white button-up shirt and dark brown pants. He felt many eyes on him when he entered, sensing the shift in the room as he walked towards the bar, keeping his head down.
“Perfect timing,” Mila said, coming up behind him and touching his forearm.
“Um, it seems busy here, are you sure it’s okay for you to leave?” he asked nervously.
“Leo has handled worse, I promise you,” she assured him, untying the apron around her waist and hanging it on a hook behind the bar.
“Don’t be stupid,” Leo called while cleaning a glass as she grabbed her bag and took Bruno’s hand.
“Love you too,” she called back, guiding him out the front door, ignoring all the eyes on them.
They walked through the plaza hand-in-hand, heading towards the river. Bruno seemed less bothered this time by the stares and whispers. Mila could still feel the slight tremble in his hand, but he moved with his shoulders back and head up, his eyes forwards. When they reached the lining of the trees, Mila pulled him off the worn path and through the bushes and trees Bruno followed without a word, finding satisfaction in just getting to be with her again.
“Here’s a nice spot,” she said, stepping into a small glade free of bushes and vines.
“Is this, um, where you normally go?” he asked, watching her sit on a large rock near them.
“No, I’m usually closer to the cantina, but I figured somewhere a little farther would be better, plus, this is a very pretty area,” she said, rummaging through her bag.
“It is,” he agreed, sitting beside her on the large rock
“Here, hold this,” she instructed, handing him a box of matches and a small tobacco pipe.
“Have you ever used a tobacco pipe before?” she asked, taking the pipe from his hand.
“Uh…no…” he muttered awkwardly.
“It’s okay, Bruno, I’m not going to judge you,” she said with a chuckle.
Bruno watched closely as she ground some of the yerba from her bag. He found it fascinating how she delicately loaded the clumps of green herb into the bowl, patting it down every now and again. She took care not to spill the rest, moving slowly, most likely to let him see things in more detail. Who knows, maybe he might try to do this himself one day?
“Here, watch me,” she said, striking a match and bringing the flame to the edge of the bowl, “just barely singe the top, okay?” she continued, bringing the lip to her mouth.
She inhaled slowly, taking in a regular amount of air, sucking the smoke from the charred yerba . Bruno stared intensely, flustered by how she made smoking from a pipe look so…hot. He swallowed nervously, his throat feeling dry and he focused in on her lips, how they were puckered around the wooden lip, her cheeks slightly hallowed in, creating a storm of filthy images in his head. When she exhaled, the smoke drifted around them. Bruno immediately recognized the scent as the one he’d often discover lingering on his clothes after Hernando had his fun.
“Ready to try?” she asked, holding it out to him.
“Oh, um, yeah, yeah…okay,” he nodded quickly, taking the instrument and trying his best to copy what he had seen her do.
“Just a small breath, let it reach into your chest, you’ll feel it,” she instructed him gently.
As the smoke invaded Bruno’s throat, he felt the dry burn in his lungs he had expected. What he did not expect was just how harsh it would be his first time. He immediately started coughing, hard enough that he swore he felt his ribs rattle. The cough was dry and burned the back of his throat, watering his eyes and warming his entire body. Between his fits of wheezes and coughs, he looked at Mila. She was trying her best not to laugh, knowing how difficult the first time could be, especially since Bruno had never even smoked a pipe or cigar in his life.
“Here,” she said, offering him a canteen of water from inside her bag, “I wish I had one my first time,” she giggled.
“Tha…thank you,” he croaked, guzzling a couple large gulps of water before handing it back to her, breaking into another short fit of harsh coughs.
“It’s only that bad the first few hits, it gets better after that,” she smirked, bringing another match to the pipe she had taken from his hand during his coughing fit.
“Um, how long until,” he cleared his still sore throat, “how long until you start to feel it?”
Laying on her back, she exhaled directly into the space above her. Bruno, feeling a strange heaviness start to set in, laid beside her, leaving only a few centimeters of space between their bodies. She turned her head and smiled at him, setting the pipe aside and curling into his side, laying her head on his chest.
“You’ll know when you feel it, don’t worry,” she said into his shirt, nuzzling his chest as she settled comfortably in the grass.
Bruno, feeling content with the sounds of the jungle and the comforting weight of Mila partially on him, felt his eyes close. He began to feel something similar to a tingle begin in his chest and spread to the rest of his body. When he opened his eyes again, he felt like the trees were a little greener, a little more alive.
“Wow…” he murmured followed by an uncontrollable short giggle, “sorry, sorry, I don’t know what’s so funny,” he giggled again, looking down at her.
“You don’t need something funny to get a good laugh when you’re high,” she said with a small chuckle of her own.
“I can see why he does this,” Bruno said softly after a long silence.
He had turned on his side, bringing Mila closer, tucking her against his chest, resting his chin on the top of her head, one arm tucked under his head as a cushion.
“Hmm?” she responded, nuzzling his chest where she had her cheek pressed against.
“I can see why Hernando smokes and stuff, it’s…quite nice actually,” he said softly, slowly.
“I’m glad,” she sighed in content, her fingers gripping his shirt tighter.
“Nothing…matters right now besides you and me,” he said, his voice low and a little raspy.
Shut up, you’re doing okay so far…
She lifted her head from his chest, propping herself up on her elbow. He mimicked her, laying in the same position with a lazy grin. She used her free hand to grasp his, letting their intertwined fingers rest on the arch of her hip. Bruno’s thumb softly stroked the fabric of her dress.
“Your head is so high in the clouds right now,” she teased him with a giggle.
“Everything feels…good, like my body feels…good,” he said, his mind struggling to remember more complex descriptors.
She laughed, slipping her hand out of his to caress his jaw. Leaning forward, she kissed him softly, her lips moving slowly against his. As she pulled back, Bruno attempted to follow her. He gripped at her hip a little tighter, pulling the lower half of her body firmly into his, her legs instinctually interlocking with his.
“Can you do that again?” he asked her, leaning into her palm, his eyes closing as she brought her hand up to grip the curls at the back of his head, tugging slightly, pulling a low whine from his throat.
“Kiss you?” she asked softly, already knowing the answer, but wanting to hear him.
“P-please,” he practically whimpered, his body igniting with anticipation as one of her legs tightened on his hip.
“So sweet,” she murmured against his mouth before fulfilling his request.
A soft groan broke from his mouth as she firmly pressed her lips to his, moving slow and sensuous. Her pace and intensity had Bruno’s body tingling, his mind in a daze as she made quiet noises against his mouth, little whimpers and sighs that stirred a fierce desire in him. Lost in her touch, he moved his mouth against hers, maintaining her initial pace but gripped her jaw to take the lead as they kissed. Pulling back for a second, he stared intensely at her, hand slightly trembling and cock aching.
Bruno wanted to mentally scold himself for thinking of such erotic actions, all the blood in his body flooding to his growing cock. He felt a slight pang of guilt, knowing to indulge in such thoughts was indulging in other sinful behavior.
“Hey,” she cooed gently, her voice just above a whisper as she tried to bring his attention back to her.
“Hm?” he responded, tilting his head to the side in curiosity.
“Don’t drift too far,” she teased him, leaning towards him for another kiss.
“I’ll need something to keep me grounded,” he chuckled against her mouth, dropping his weight and rolling onto his back, pulling her on top of him.
She yelped, quickly followed by a giggle as she adjusted her position. One knee on either side of his left leg, she found herself staring down at him, her hair forming a curtain around them. Bruno laughed softly, his hands resting comfortably on her hips. Lowering her head, she nuzzled her nose against the side of his, feeling his fingers creep up to overlap at the base of her spine.
“Still feeling okay?” she asked softly.
“More than okay, mi estrella ,” he grinned, sliding one hand up her back to caress the nape of her neck.
The way he looked at her, plus the endearing terms he used to address her, and maybe a little bit of the yerba had Mila swooning, ready to fall into his arms and stay there forever.
She kissed him gently, her lips barely brushing his as he craned his neck for more. Gripping the back of her neck, he pulled her down to him, kissing her hard, almost frantic. Allowing him to take the lead, she enjoyed the feel of his lips on hers, the way his hands were running up and down her back slowly, and the growing heat in her. Her tongue swiped over his lower lip, causing a delicious reaction. He groaned and tightly grasped the parts of her that his hands had stopped over. Even though Bruno was less experienced with such things, he learned quickly. The few times he’d been watching Mila and Hernando interact, he paid special attention to how his alternate would kiss her.
He tested different movements as they kissed, his personal mission becoming learning every way to make her feel good. They remained there in that little clearing, holding each other, kissing slowly, until the sun began to reach the final moments of day, slowly descending behind the mountains.
“We should go before it gets too late,” Bruno mumbled, now laying on his back with Mila comfortably tucked into his side.
“That sounds like something we should do, but…” she responded, sitting up to look him in the eyes.
“…but what, mi cielo ?” he asked, his brow arched in amusement recognizing that mischievous tone.
“But I think it would be more fun if we stayed out here all night kissing, talking,” she said, running her hand through his hair just to emphasize her point.
Bruno found it hard to think reasonably when she was touching him like that. Her nails would lightly drag along his scalp, relaxing him further as they laid in the grass. He sighed, using all of the willpower he could muster and reached up to remove her hand.
How are you going to say no to her when she’s like this for you, aguevado?
“I want to,” he sighs, “you have no idea, but… mi familia will be getting up early for Mass and I don’t want to have to explain where I was all night before visiting the Lord’s house,” he attempted to joke, his tone nervous as he explained.
“Fair enough,” she nodded with a small grin, accepting his answer with ease, standing up and gathering her things.
“You’re not…um, upset?” he asked, anxious about her lack of reaction.
“No, Bruno, I’m not upset,” she laughed, wrapping her arms around his right arm, interlacing their fingers.
She’s upset.
“Are…you sure?” he asked, hoping Hernando was wrong.
“Yes, I’m sure, osito ,” she confirmed, bringing his hand to her lips, kissing his knuckles.
Yeah, she’s mad…
“Um, I just…I just feel like your reaction is kind of…uh…calm?” he stumbled, tensing when she stopped walking.
“Bruno, I’m not going to be mad if you tell me no. Plus. if we want this to work, we should probably keep these nighttime adventures to a minimum, until maybe a little later into the relationship,” she explained with a little shrug.
“You’re…incredible,” he sighed in relief, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
She laughed quietly, embracing him tightly with a content sigh. He pulls away and just looks at her for a moment, completely bewildered that someone like her continued to spend her time with him.
“I’m glad you think so,” she teased, turning back to the path and continuing on.
“We, um, we should do this again,” he said after a brief silence.
“I’d love to,” she agreed, squeezing his hand.
When they finally reached the back of the cantina, it was quiet in the village. No voices could be heard and most of the buildings and houses were dark. Stopping at the back entrance, Bruno held both her hands in his, his chest aching at the idea of having to separate from her. She stepped closer, looking up at him through her lashes.
“I wish you didn’t have to go,” she admitted, pressing her forehead into his shoulder, her voice muffled against his ruana.
“I know, mi estrella , but I’ll be back soon,” he said quietly, stroking her hair.
“Goodnight, Bruno,” she said, leaning back to look up at him.
“Sleep well, Mila,” he replied, leaning down to softly kiss her.
What started as a simple, short and sweet, goodbye kiss turned into a heated ten minute kiss with extensive touching involved. Bruno was dizzy by the time he managed to pull away and force his own hands to behave. She pecked his cheek softly, telling him to get home safe and that she enjoyed spending time with him.
He walked home with a grin on his face, the effects of the yerba still very much present in his system but not as intense. He replayed the events of this evening, smiling to himself as he recalled their kisses throughout the date.
Nice job of not messing everything up, tonto.
For once in a long time, Bruno was able to shrug Hernando’s words right off. In a way, he felt like he could hear just the faintest suggestion of sincerity in his alternate’s voice. Maybe Hernando was a bit proud, maybe he wasn’t a complete asshole after all…
I'm back lmao and ready to fuel the Bruno Madrigal fire that has been slowly fading
