B T S the Afrovictorian ensemble: accessories
Every Victorian lady needs a parasol and a jaunty chapeau right? I guess I can dive into millinery.
I started with buckram (harder to find than one would think) and the same fabric as the skirt base, a navy quilting cotton.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a fuckton of hand sewing involved. I suppose I could have tried to fit it under the machine but that sounds like more work than it was worth. I do manage to only use glue to tack it in place so I could sew it down so go me!

Brimarvelous! Now on to the decorations. In keeping with the color scheme so far we have blue, pink, and yellow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good start, but not ostentatious enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Better... needs moar. Remember, bird species were hunted to extinction for hats!
Tumblr media
Maybe without feathers?

Nah, definitely with. Remember, more is more.
Oh, and I dyed a parasol to go with it all.
Tumblr media
Even though it was listed as 100% cotton the dye really only took in the lace. 🤷🏿‍♀️

ALLLL ABOARD
I used some traditional millinery techniques to make this mini Ingo hat!
I’d say it took me around 20 hours or so to make. Wire, buckram, fabric and leather were all hand assembled to make this, I even lined the inside even tho the plushie doesn’t care lol.

Added bonus is it fits my dog :D

Touchstone (makers: Main costume by Janet Christmas. Millinery by Kate Freshwater. Heads sculpted by Emma Hughes)
A reinterpretation of the traditional court jester, Touchstone is the only character in the court to wear any colour – the bright reddish orange of their hat and shoes popping against all the greyscale tones of the other costumes. When we first meet her, Touchstone’s costume is so comically exaggerated with its balloon shaped breeches and multiple heads that it’s almost wearing her. But slowly, after arriving in the forest of Arden and falling in love with Audrey, we see the layers of artifice begin to unravel, gradually revealing a human beneath.
