Surprisingly in the mode where examining the wrong thing can get you hurt, Detective Peach levels never have a treasure chest be anything but treasure XD

multifantober2023 prompt 5: treasure
There might not be any treasure in this chest, but a mimic friend could still be a treasure… right?

Was thinking about RPG ideas and remembered something I drew a few years back, of a cast of monsters that you would play as (the first four). The others are the rest of the population in that dungeon.
The story would be about a stereotypical RPG dungeon that hero characters would go through, and it had it’s own ecosystem that made sure monsters couldn’t die, were comfortable there, etc.
Then one day an earthquake hits, and all the monsters are forced to leave and get separated. You play as the first four on here: Ick, Polly, Mickey (who would act as your inventory), and Emory (the mute PC character. “Emory” would be the default name; I was thinking Ick would find a broken sword and he’d ask what to write on it before giving it to you/Emory).
The story would involve traveling around the world, looking for a new dungeon to call home, while being hunted down by humans and finding out why your dungeon collapsed. Ick would be the overly optimistic/naieve one, while Polly would be the rational/cynical voice. Mickey mostly acts like a dog. And you’d be in charge of figuring out where to go next.
I like the idea of messing with some tropes, like you’d see the enemy/player npcs but “random encounters” would be other monsters who you could talk to, trade with, or convince to come with you. You’d “level up” by finding empty chests and putting valuable items in there (it was some type blessing thing, and to justify why chests have stuff in it that monsters leave alone).
It was a fun idea inspired by listening to a lot of table top stories, but y’know, I have enough on my plate with other ideas.
