One thing that’s always bothered me about how team Minato’s often written in fanfic is that it’s always referring to Kakashi as Obito’s best friend, when Rin is???? Like, even when they’re all happy and alive? Rin and Obito have been best friends for years longer than they’ve even been on team Minato? Is that not the entire canonical reason Obito fell in love with her?

Personally, I’m of the opinion that they’re all best friends (or should be), though their dynamics with each other are vastly different. Kakashi and Obito are the bickering rival/in love with each other duo, Rin and Kakashi are the sibling and would-die-for-Obito duo, and Obito and Rin are the ride-or-die confidants. The three of them together are the slightly-too-deranged trio, of course. Minato is their mentor/father figure, and the four of them together are the self-sacrificial idiots. Kushina’s the designated bad influence.

asuka thinks shun doesn't value him, that he doesn't pay attention to him. because asuka is the one who intiiated the relationship, because shun's agreement to being a couple was out of the ordinary and because he keeps acting, as asuka sees it, nonchalant about the fact they're boyfriends. with time passing, asuka will feel more like he forced this relationship onto shun and it will show.

asuka is usually confident and straight-forward but he is too far from shin's levels of unhinged devotion. asuka can get in his head and is much more prone to feeling doubtful. he's generally happy-go-lucky but the lack of affection gets to him.

on the topic of his laid back attitude, asuka has interests but no motivation to do anything with them. he doesn't seem to have that much confidence in his abilities, either didn't get accepted into uni or didn't apply at all (if it's mentioned in canon please tell me). however the second he gets the lightest push from shun, he starts studying. yes, he sees it as an opportunity to spend more time with his tutor boyfriend but there's more to it - he wants to pursue higher education, he wants to explore his passion and shun gave him the confidence needed for him to go for it.

let's talk about shun's ''light push'' as well - had he been a disinterested partner (which asuka will probably trick himself into believing), shun wouldn't encourage asuka with so much enthusiasm. as a scholar, he shows his love for academics and the opportunity to indulge in learning, sure. but i like to believe that he got genuinely excited at the idea of asuka flourishing, prospering in a field of his own and feeling the way shun feels about architecture. because that's the best feeling shun knows and he wants asuka to feel the same way. it's a way to connect, not through the same particular interest but through mutual understanding for the other's passion (which is currently missing on asuka's part - he respects and is endeared by shun's enthusiasm for the arts but he doesn't get it)

I love your headcanons about Hashirama and his mokuten. It not only aligns with my own but it’s very much one of the most in-depth ideas related to his Mokuton that I’ve ever seen. Also I love hashirama which means I need him to suffer up to his eyeballs in angst. I wanted to ask though, in canon we see that despite Hashirama’s mostly happy demeanor, he’s sort of prone to these ‘sudden’ moments of deep depression where he becomes self-flagellant over his mistakes. It’s played a bit for laughs in the anime but how do you think those moments where his emotions plummet like a fall of a cliff, would effect his Mokuton. Because it feels like those moments are different than him just feeling sad.

Okay so maybe I'm alone on this but when hashirama gets suddenly depressed it doesn't feel like a genuine emotional display to me. Like, I'm sure there's a basis in reality. I'm sure he says or does things without thinking them all the way through and then he's like "oh shit oops" but I don't think he gets that genuinely upset. The display feels too heightened. Like something you would do to make kids laugh after they say something to "hurt" you feelings. And it's very disarming to opponents so it allows people to underestimate him. Mostly I feel this way because we never see it actually being disruptive to his life. It just feels suspicious controlled (mostly bc it's used as comedic relief but i choose to take that timing seriously). So yeah, I think it's more an automatic performance that lets him get away with things rather than a real plummet of his mood. Therefore he would probably make plants wilt and algae grow to add to the performance. And I think the self flagellation comes from a place of being a lot smarter and more self aware than he's given credit for. Unlike a lot of other characters, I think hashirama is aware of how fucked up some of his actions are but at that point he doesn't know how to stop the trainreck from happening. He doesn't know what else he can do. It all feels inevitable.

But maybe im wrong. If it's genuine, then I'd imagine chakra comes spooling off of him and stimulates growth in whatever happens to be around. Which is a lot more dangerous fungi wise. And/or his body recklessly unfurls into roots and branches 😬

“Are you saying that because I’m a woman I can’t handle being alone?” Kushina snapped. Her long red hair squirmed like angry snakes as she loomed over her husband, Minato, in The Hokage’s Office. 

“No no, that’s not it!” Minato said apologetically, waving his open palms to show he was not a threat. “It’s just that with you being with child it makes it my responsibility as the Hokage and your husband to ensure your safety.” Minato’s fragile sense of masculinity came out whenever he felt eyes were on him. He was soft spoken and gentle with Kushina most of the time, but when the pressure was on, he was staunchly protective to a degree that often put him at risk. She hated it.

“This is ridiculous! We only just found out yesterday!”

“And I just want to make sure we give our child the best we’ve got.”

Kushina groaned, “I care too y’know! It’s not fair for you to think so little of me! I can still do plenty.”

“I know you can, but I still think it’s best-”

Kushina rubbed her hair in annoyance. “Urrghhhh! Are you even listening, y’know?” She shrieked. “That’s it! If you won’t listen to me then-” She entwined her hands firmly with the index and middle fingers raised–the tiger hand sign.  “Transform!”

Kushina’s form changed. She wore a Leaf Jonin’s uniform, and her long red hair was tied up. She was no longer shorter than Minato. In fact, she matched him in height and was no longer female. In this new form, he could check his husband for his toxic masculinity. His bright blue determined eyes fixed on Minato. “Are you ready to hear me now?” He asked– voice deeper than before.

Minato’s mouth fell open and he took a while to gather his words before speaking, “Kushina, I-” A golden sealing chain whizzed past his head, and he flinched.

“You’ll call me Kushiro for now ‘kay? We can have a chat. Man to man, y’know?”

“Ah, right,” said Minato, swallowing hard. He’d never thought she’d make such an intimidating and attractive man. “Kushiro, I value your strength and determination to remain an active citizen of The Leaf. I have no doubts in your capabilities. I know that you can take care of yourself. You’re strong both in body and in spirit, but this isn’t just about you anymore. I would feel happier as your husband knowing that someone I trust is watching over you when I can’t. I was thinking Kakashi.”

Kushiro pouted. Minato always knew the right thing to say when he was upset. He could never stay mad for long. 

“I love you, Kushina…ah Kushiro…” Minato said with one of his signature gentle smiles.

Kushiro melted at Minato’s words. He threw himself into the blond’s arms and kissed him hard. Fortunately, he’d locked the door on the way in, because he was curious about how receptive to his new form Minato would be. Just how long could he keep himself, Minato, the chains, and the jutsu up?
