ANNETTE (2021)
Cynics among you may doubt that what you're about to see is real. But it is not faked in some way. Let me assure you, it is real. Annette is a miracle. Miracles do exist.

"Why can't I remember... My own hair color?"
...
...
"Why can't I remember its shade? They told me it was dark when I was a kid- but how dark?! Why can't I get it right?!"
...
"Brynn?"
"I don't get it— I don't get why I'm so obsessed with this, Annette." Brynn trembled. She could sense the little tremors on her fingers. Something was stuck in her throat— quite possible the terror she can't let out.
"I know, I know it's my fault. That I was some dumb kid who believed some scam— and now I have some ancient crest inside me in exchange— but it's been more than a decade and I can't remember my damned childhood!"
She ran her fingers down her scalp, grabbing a fistful of white locks. They weren't supposed to be white. Brynn coughed slightly, growing a lot more agitated.
...
Brynn finally let her hold on the dye loosen up. Her friend approached her, a lot less reluctantly this time, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You don't need to remember it if it's painful..." The ginger-haired professor spoke softly. "Please don't force yourself..."
"But I want to— I need to."
Neither of them spoke for a while. After the war, it was no secret between the Blue Lions that Brynn had little recollection of her preadolescent years. Her circumstances were not unlike Edelgard's and Lysithea's— but the difference lied with the fact that she willingly volunteered to become an Agarthan test subject. It was the real reason as to why she had suddenly vanished from His Majesty's life in their younger years.
She wasn't studying tomes.
She was being studied instead.
All because she thought herself as an inferior human being. A hopeless case. A forgotten second born to an obscure noble house. An unmarriageable crestless daughter. Worthless.
When she did return, her fire was near extinguished. Even a skilled artist couldn't fabricate a happier child. Brynn... Took a few years to remove such numbness out of her system. She had grown into a more "human" adult woman, carefully maintaining her body through Lindhart's begrudging efforts.
But her past...
"Just what..."
She held her head.
"Just what in Sothis' name did His Majesty meant when he said that he, Empress Edelgard, and I used to be close friends?"

Babe, there's something tragic about you
Something so magic about you
Don't you agree?
Babe, there's something lonesome about you
Something so wholesome about you
Get closer to me
