I really love one of the artists behind raya and the last dragon. I’m really excited for the movie, and I’m in love with so many of the designs of the human characters. They look “Disney” like but still unique in their own way. I also really like human Sisu, she looks really nice! I’m super excited to watch the movie!

But as a dragon enthusiast, I’m gonna jump on the band wagon of not liking dragon Sisu’s face. I think the body, fur and paws look awesome! You can see the research the team put into it! I like some of the older more complicated designs but rigging that whole thing would be incredibly hard, and while I think Disney has the money and talent to do it, I fully understand simplifying the design to make it easier to animate.

It’s really only the face that is a problem, for me atleast. I really like fluffy dragons and the way sisu’s mane looks like the human version’s hair wich is awesome! But I don’t think their faces look that similar with real different eyes. Especially with the lashes on the dragon. While i disagree that it’s face looks exactly like elsa’s I do think that it’s face has the same proportions as most of Disney’s female characters. It makes it feel like they stapled a human face on the body of a dragon. In the image below I painted over a screen shot from the trailer in one I just changed the eye shape to match the human and in the other I painted it how I would design Sisu (I didn’t get the eye shape right in that one but I didn’t notice til just now)

I’m still really excited, I have been since I saw Helen Mingue Chen promote this on her Instagram. I’m not really a Disney fan, but I love her work. So I’d probably watch this movie no matter what.
