HEY!

are you new to fanfic? new to tumblr? or both?

well here is a mini guide for new fanfic readers on tumblr !!

first, like many other sites, the way you find fanfics is by going to the search, typing in 'character x' then finishing it with whatever you'd like, such as 'char x reader' 'char x char' and so on.

second, is looking at tags and warnings. tags are the words at the bottom of the post that signify what the post is mainly about, but be careful because a lot of people will put tags in their posts just for attention to the post, such as trending tags.

and warnings, a LOT of fanfic writers will put the warnings in the description of the fic, so at the top of the post. popular things that are in warnings that can be a bit confusing or be unknown to new readers are;

nsfw: this means that whatever in the fic, is either sexual, violent or down right diabolical so they much rather warn you than having to deal with upset readers

mdni: very commonly seen anywhere that is 18+ or 21+ is mdni, or minors do not interact, very similar to nsfw, this just means if you are under 18, this post is not for you, or this account is not for you

fem! and masc! or gn! reader: this is just declaring who this fic was intended for, whether it be afab or feminine people, (fem!), amab or masculine people (masc!), or for anyone and everyone (gn!)

OOC: this is just warning you that the character/s are not as shown in whatever media they are originally from, many instances are when someone has a different vision for a character so they write the character with such vision. OOC means, out of character.

warnings will usually have everything you need to know about the fic, and if the warnings don't, the tags will.

third, is masterlists. alright, so masterlists are just a writer's way of making their fics more accessible to the readers. most writers have multiple masterlists that correspond with the characters, fandoms, or genres they write for. masterlists can almost always be found on the writer's pinned post.

and lastly, LIKES AND REBLOGS.

likes and reblogs are very controversial for no reason. likes and reblogs are the easiest way for writers to know if someone is enjoying their fics. don't get me wrong, follows and comments are nice but reblogs, most importantly, get posts to be spread around.

my uni tips as a second year student 🍂🧸💭

💭 know when your classes start!

This may seem like a no-brainer but believe me when I tell you there are students who won’t know when or how many classes they have. This will only lead to stress and an unorganised mind. Check your schedule for the first period/semester ideally 2 weeks before school officially starts. That way you’ll have plenty of time to plan other activities around your lectures!

🍂 make friends, especially the first few weeks

Now, call me naive but I thought I could go through uni all by myself, without the headache of keeping up with the social scene but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Most studies are fairly big, with the number of students being 300 or even more if you follow a popular study. Simply put, this means chaos. Having friends to answer questions like: “When did the professor say the deadline was? Do we get the extra points if we do x, y, z? What was the new date for the midterm?” will save your academic life more than once. Two people know more than one, so help each other! Plus sitting next to someone you know and having people to talk to about your courses is very comforting to have :)

🕰️ make your assignments on time!

I know this is an obvious one, but trust me when I say that pushing that assignment, project, or homework to the very last day will only give you unnecessary stress. Ideally you should start your assignment on the day it’s been published so you can really take your time to grasp the concepts being discussed, thus preparing you better for the upcoming midterm and finals (less work for future you!)

🧸 make time for rest and relaxation!

Many students will tell you that they don’t have time for anything besides their study. In my honest opinion, this is easily dodged by simply having decent time management. I try to plan the following week on a Sunday so I know what assignments are due, when my classes are, etc. In my experience it’s more difficult to follow the planning I made than actually making it, so try to keep it realistic. You’re probably not gonna manage to write 2 essays and make an assignment in one single day so keep that in mind. I’d suggest to go to campus (or a cafe or library or another cosy study spot) in the morning and stay there until the afternoon. This makes you more productive and gives you free time for the whole evening!

cuddling with dream and the many possibilities, scenarios, and obstacles you may encounter. don't let him read this. a guide by technoblade.

i'm about to blow your minds with how complex this is. i'm a master at my art (sleeping), alright? i'm an experienced craftsman (at sleeping), i perform at my best in all locations (with naps, mostly) (yes, even in the obsidian box), and i'm very good at cuddling. i'm practically built for it. i would never, ever think about writing a guide about how to cuddle with philza minecraft (or anyone else, really), but this squirmy little guy is different.

-the best approach is the Sudden Drop. walk over to him, no matter what he's doin, and just drop onto him and stay there. spare no body weight. he'll probably think it's a bit funny, and that's why it's the best one. he's more likely to humor something if it's a good bit, and having a giant piglin treat you like a sofa cushion is a GREAT bit. he'll laugh.

-(the second best approach is when he's upset or panicking or crying, and you can see him grabbing onto himself. normally that means... idk, that he wants held? Or he wants to hold something? i'll sit down, slowly, and wrap 'im up. he'll latch onto me. hard. fingers twisting my fur-- the whole nine yards)

-otherwise, he's shy with his hands. a few times now, i've grabbed his hands and put them somewhere on me because he was just, like, hovering them awkwardly. like, cmon, man. i'm laying my whole body on you, what part of your hands do you think is gonna bother me.

-but, come to think of it, sometimes he's afraid of my hands, too. if i move them in the middle of the night. if i lay them somewhere sensitive, like his sides or the small of his back.

-another scenario: he might approach me, too. i thought it'd never happen. you know that feeling with the stray dog is finally close enough to sniff your hand and you stay super still so you don't scare it? That's how i felt. he normally just walks over and leans on my shoulder, and i still can't tell if that's all he wants or if he's asking me for a better cuddle. more experimentation is needed here.

-location is key! in all scenarios, near the wall is best. i think of myself as a secondary wall and kinda close him in- if sam were lookin', he'd only see me.

-(he's so little. he's SO little. was he always this thin? i'm gonna crush the kid.)

-expect the unexpected. sometimes he'll hit you. sometimes he'll start to cry, and sometimes that means you need to let him go, and sometimes that means you need to hold tighter. it's complicated. but everyone needs it, especially dudes bein tortured in a box, so it's worth the effort.

-(sometimes i need it, too. i'll admit it, i'm scared.)

The verdict was read. Max Hastings was found guilty.

Ravi Singh was on autopilot. His hands rummaged through his pockets, desperately searching for his phone. He pulled it out, scrolling through the contacts lists until he reached the one named 'sarge<3'. He paused, his fingers ghosting over the keypad. Does she miss me? Would she remember me? Self doubt consumed him, but the longing for Pip won. He messaged her.

He waited

Pip's phone lit up; the text she awaited the most had finally arrived. The contact named 'ravishing<3' had messaged her. Finally. She clicked on the notification, the hollow pit in her heart was filled for a second, when she saw the message.

Pip took the first taxi home, making a mental list of all the people she had to apologize; all the people she had left. The drive wasn't long; only 2 hours long, but to her it felt like a eternity. She decided to practice the apology she would say, but no apology was perfect. The anxiety was eating her up, but as soon as the she heard the driver say that they had reached, all was forgotten.

Pip stood in front of her family's home. Not hers; she had ghosted them, she had left. She wondered if they would still welcome her; whether her dad remembered his 'pickle'. How her mom was, how tall had Josh grown? She swallowed all her feelings and pressed the doorbell.

She waited

Her dad opened the door; eyes widening and mouth agape, clutching the door handle tightly. He stood there frozen; not even making a sound. Pip tried for a 'Hey dad' but her own voice was gone. Just then, Josh came running; pushing her dad aside.

"MUM, PIP IS HERE!", he screamed and he hugged her, breaking Pip and their dad out of their trance. Josh's face was buried in her chest; he had grown taller. Her dad reached out and kissed her forehead mumbling about his pickle coming back home. Her mum came into view, and broke down into tears; her knees giving out. Pip kneeled down and hugged her; her mum's tears soaking her top.

Pip took a deep breath, and pushed the café's door open, the bells jingling overhead. As soon as she inhaled the smell of coffee and all the sweet memories, she was engulfed in a embrace. Nat DaSilva, she recognized and hugged her back. She hugged Jamie and Connor and went to the counter of the café.

"Can I get a best friend- no, sister with some extra sweetness and craziness on the go, please", she said in a stoic tone. Cara recognized her voice and turned to face her, her eyes wide.

"PIP?!", she whisper-shouted, not believing her eyes. Pip grinned and nodded, and Cara stepped forward.

She punched her.

She hugged her.

They both sobbed, holding each other close.

Ravi was still waiting for a text from her. His afternoon was supposed to be free, and he could march over to Cambridge to see her. But something in his heart told him to stop.

The doorbell rang. Ravi wondered who was ringing the bell, since there was nobody to be visting; no package to be delivered. He opened the door.

Pip's heart did somersaults when she saw him. Ravi's mouth was agape. She tried for a greeting.

"Hi?!", she muttered timidly, her voice barely reaching her own self.

Ravi took one long stride, and hugged her; firm and tight, which lifted her off her feet. He pulled away, and Pip closed the gap this time; placing her lips softly on his. The hollow pit in her heart was filled; all she felt was pure bliss.

She pulled away, resting her forehead on top of his. He flashed her his signature smile, the one that she adored.

"Hey Ravi, remember me?"

Hi everyone! It's ya boi spreadsheets back with another fanfiction wrapped! This time I actually took the time to make it look really pretty (see: I half assed this in Google Slides for my discord server's swampmas wrapped event lmao).

Without further ado, here's what I read this year.

But when her life comes crashing down inside a secret underground Russian elevator, Robin finds a new appreciation for the strengths of Steve Harrington... at least until she has a startling realization about her best friend and his fleeting mortality as the Party patches up his demo-bat bites.

Primarily, raising his daughter. As long as she's happy and healthy, Chad thinks that he can manage to be as well.

But when an old friend from high school stumbles back into his life, Chad's world gets just a little more interesting.

This headcanon lives rent-free in my head, constantly, and I was so disappointed in how GMW handled a lot of the adult relationships and stickier topics, that I just had to write this. It just might rot your teeth.

Zuko scowls. “What, so people can then say at least my father wasn’t lazy?”

Sokka tilts his head. “Don’t you think there’s a difference between laziness and, I don’t know, choosing life and happiness in spite of a terrible dad who tried to take both from you?”

Zuko is sixteen years old when he’s handed a crown, a throne, and a hundred-year ancestral legacy of colonial imperialism. He’s not scared of the work; he’s scared of being consumed by the responsibilities and burdens he’s claimed. What Zuko doesn’t quite realize, yet, is that he’s not alone in this.

Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes.

The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.

The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.

Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.

Will We Last the Night by CSHfic | Rated T | 144k

Chief Arnook never assigns Sokka to protect Princess Yue, so he goes to fight the Fire Nation with the other men. When the moon dies, and the ocean spirit takes its revenge, Sokka is caught standing on the deck of a Fire Nation ship. Sokka should have drowned… and he would have drowned, if not for a certain Fire Nation raft fleeing the North Pole.

[An enemies-to-lovers season 2 rewrite, where Sokka is separated from the gaang during the Siege of the North, and travels the Earth Kingdom with Zuko instead].

War Crimes by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 90k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING FOR SA, CHILD SA, TORTURE, MURDER, AND VIOLENCE - PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND CONTENT WARNINGS)

Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)

Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.

And they argue.

A lot.

War games by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 428k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING, TORTURE, VIOLENCE, MURDER - Unfinished)

After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.

Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.

Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)

Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.

Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

Sokka raises his eyebrows. “That I…Focus on the present to the point of blindly committing to enormously questionable courses of action with significant long-term ramifications because they’re gratifying in the immediate moment, which is particularly concerning as our chief Maker of Plans?”

“Uh—That’s basically…Yeah.”]

An alternate world where Iroh leads a coup against Ozai on the eclipse and wins the throne for Zuko. The southern water tribe hadn't sent men to fight in thirty years, instead protecting their home, laying traps, using guerilla tactics so the fire nation gave up fighting them.

Sokka and Katara found Aang, but being frozen in ice for a hundred years has ramifications and for almost four years the tribe focuses on healing the avatar.

Zuko is advised for continued peace to have an arranged marriage outside the fire nation. The best option is a the child of the chief of the southern tribe. Katara is in love with Aang and is heartbroken, but will do her duty for her people. Sokka finds a loophole that they can carefully and craftily exploit.

Aka they lie. They lie so hard and Sokka becomes the one betrothed to Fire Lord Zuko. He is sure there will be no consequences to the plan. Certainly not going to fall in love with the man he is lying to. At all. Nope indeedy, no love on the menu. Dang it.

Sokka isn’t stupid. Not that his sister is, mind you (at least, he’d never call her that to her face now that she’s honed her waterbending), or any of the rest of Team Avatar, although sometimes it feels like he’s living in a different world from the rest of them — a world where running out of food means starving, and walking into a town full of firebenders with the Avatar in tow will get you killed, rather than help you free a beaten-down Earthbender colony.

Anyways.

Sokka isn’t stupid, which is why he laughs directly in Aunt Wu’s face when she tells him that he will marry the Fire Lord.
