My homeschool motto: Keep it simple. When I first started homeschooling with my oldest, there were so many curriculum and program options & I tried out a bunch of different styles & methods. What I ended up settling on was a more minimalist approach to homeschooling. For my kindergartner this year, our priorities are language arts and math. We do these two subjects in various ways everyday. I also like to list out what other resources I have to work with and other subjects he will learn about throughout the year because of our daily homeschool rhythms. During morning basket time he will hear lots of read alouds, science, history and poetry. Other times I am working with another child and he can do some independent learning like #LeapFrog or #ABCMouse. If you’re feeling overwhelmed this year with school for your kids, my advice is to start with two subjects with just one curriculum resource you work with in each. If you can get math and English down, you’re golden! Then you can add other subjects into your weekly rhythm, maybe including multiple ages in with science and history so you’re not teaching twice. Remember, with homeschooling, learning is a lifestyle - it happens throughout the day and throughout the week, and it builds up throughout the year!
