I dreamed there was another verse to Minnie The Moocher, just like how Cab talked about what the king of sweden gave her in her dream there was a verse about what Smokey gave her in reality to juxtapose it
So I was watching one of my favorite movies the other day, The Blues Brothers, and when Cab Calloway sang Minnie the Moocher, this part caught my attention:
She had a dream about the king of Sweden
He gave her things, that she was needin'
He gave her a home built of gold and steel
A diamond car, with the platinum wheels
He gave her his townhouse and his racing horses
Each meal she ate was a dozen courses
She had a million dollars worth of nickels and dimes
She sat around and counted them all a million times
What if it was Bernadotte? After all, it was a dream that Minnie was having so it doesn't have to be historically accurate to the time. (If it's not him, it's one of his descendants though, unless she dreamed of pre-Bernadotte Sweden.) Idk why I thought that was funny.
In the 1930s, my Dad had a big band. He graduated from high school in 1933, and then he pursued his music career until he and my Mom married in 1940.
Most of his band stuff that I have was either in his travel trunk (which is in a plastic bag in my garage) or in a cabinet made by my grandfather (a cabinet maker from Germany). The cabinet is terribly heavy, and I wanted to go through some of the stuff in there since I need to move it to a new location in my house.
This was the first piece of sheet music I came across (with my Dad’s notes). “Minnie, The Moocher”, written and popularized by Cab Calloway. I love the cover art.
