Brutally honest opinion on Sonamy, Sonadow and Whispangle? :P

Hoo boy... I have many thoughts... most not very good...

At best, I'm apathetic towards it. At worst, I'm actively annoyed and/or frusterated by it.

I think it's heavily overrated and isn't that good of a ship in general. The amount of bad portrayals of s0namy outweigh the good and/or okay ones imo, and the toxicity of the fandom surrounding it only adds to my dislike for it.

(I'm not saying everyone who likes s0namy is toxic. There are many people in the s0namy fandom that are chill. Unfortunately, there's a vocal part of the s0namy fandom that is very toxic and gatekeepy)

Alot of s0namy portrayals unfortunately fall into "Amy makes Sonic uncomfortable and/or is possessive, but it's seen as cute" which is a dynamic I really don't like. For example, Sonic X has arguably the most popular portrayal of the ship, but imo is one of if not the worst portrayals of the ship.

Then you have other extreme that the ship sometimes falls into, where I can best describe it as "they sure are standing next to eachother" (Frontiers) where there's just... nothing to it, besides "oh it's the main girl and main boy so you have to ship them, they're obviously meant for eachother!"

Another thing, it can be annoying sometimes how the fandom will exaggerate how much the ship is actually canon, saying things like "they're totally dating! they're a couple!" when in reality Sonic is single and will most likely continue to be. At most, it's teased because it's a popular ship, but it won't go further than that.

So the best way to describe how canon S0namy actually is:

Sonadow:

I like it! I think it's cute! I can't see it working out in canon, but I really like fanon sonadow and it's fun to write.

Also, even though prime sonadow is nothing like sonic or shadow would act in canon, I still think it's cute and it's the only thing I enjoyed about the show lol.

Whispangle:

This one kinda hurts... 😔

I used to really like Whispangle, I thought it was really cute. The mini series did a good job of showing their bond.

But then the city arc happened...

What the hell is this.

Why is Tangle reminding Whisper of her trauma so casually when she was shown to be considerate of her feelings before.

Why is Whisper being shown as in the wrong for being upset by this.

Why does Tangle get a 2 panel half assed apology while Whisper gets a THREE PAGE apology.

After this whole mess, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't get behind this ship anymore because of how badly this was handled, and how flanderized it is now (it seems very onesided now, a lot of "Whisper angsting, Tangle comforting" over and over)

There’s a tweet screencap that goes viral here once or twice a year in new posts about an Emily Dickinson quote (with the whole “historians will call them friends” etc etc), and it’s an absolute banger quote, but every time I see it I want to hit my head against the wall and cry because IT’S NOT BY DICKINSON! It’s just the epigraph of an old 1996 article in the Emily Dickinson Journal. The quote was actually written by a living poet Carolyn Forché (from The Angel of History, pg 65 specifically) whose beautiful writing keeps being misattributed 😭

Genshin opinion

I wanna see more stuff with Sigewinne filling the role of concerned aunt to Duke Wriothesley. For those who are confused, lemme explain.

This is Sigewinne (with Wriothesley in the back). She look smol n young and cute, aye? Because of that, everyone tends to put her in the role of the Duke's surrogate daughter or otherwise innocent girl in the underwater prison city.

While this is cute, it irks me just a little bit cuz she ain't some young innocent girl. She's a Melusine, which means she's adult and centuries old (tho I still dunno why she looks human and not like other Melusine). I remember hearing somewhere that, when Duke Wriothesley was sent to this prison as a kid, she helped raise him. On top of that...

She has no qualms with shooting people. It may have been a tranquilizer, but that don't change the fact she shot someone from behind. She has also stated she simply pretends to be dumb cuz humans tend to trust her more (at first) if she acts more innocent than she really is.

So yeah, while Daughter Sigewinne is cute, I feel like there's so much untouched fluff n potential in Aunty Sigewinne.

This is an incredibly minor point, but whenever I watch YouTubers play the latest Resident Evil games, it annoys me to no end when someone describes the setting as a zombie apocalypse. I know that zombies in fiction are usually correlated with apocalypses, but “Resident Evil” is like the one franchise where that’s NOT the case. Of course, “outbreak zones in which bioweapons turn people into monsters” is a mouthful, but dang it, that’s what the series actually is.

And don’t get me started on the live-action stuff, they aren’t a good representation of how the games are like.

So I need a moment to say that cats are only mean if you don’t listen to their boundaries and respect them. I’m not saying don’t add your own boundaries, but I think a lot of people think you can train cats like dogs. If you want to help your cat learn or unlearn something, you gotta take it slow and reinforce often.

My cat has learned how to interact with the world by following my lead. I let her sniff things I have, I let her taste things that are safe for her, and I take her outside on a leash/under full supervision. I also always try to respond when she meows to some extent so she knows I can hear her and am listening.

What does that get me? A cat that knows not to take stuff or really knocks things over to get attention. I’ve taught her basic tricks like sit and shake. She is sad to see me go when I have to get to work and is excited (and very vocal about her excitement) when I come home. Sure, she still has habits I’m trying to keep her from doing, like climbing certain tables, but I have cat friendly deferents (lemon water spray she HATES but is very safe, treats for good behavior, etc) to not make her stay away but learn it’s not worth it (I trained her not to scratch a chair using the lemon spray on the chair - she won’t touch it if it’s been sprayed within 24 hours, and my house smells like fresh citrus).

I just have had so many “dog people” tell me cats are mean and antisocial. No, cats are mean to YOU because you don’t know how to LISTEN to them. MY cat loves cuddles and plays with the laser and enjoys being with me. She likes to be outside but listens when I say not now. She can follow directions, but you can’t be forceful about it or mad if it takes time. Cats can be just as cuddly, curious, and excitable as dogs if you learn how to understand them.

(And, before I get called a crazy cat lady, I also have a yellow lab who’s nine and is incredibly well trained/heathy, and a 1.5 year old hedgehog who is very good when I handle him but is a huffy teenager whenever anyone else tries. I’ve also had other pets, from fish that I kept alive and thriving for years to other dogs who lived to be old enough to drive. I do accept the title of “basically a zookeeper,” though.)

A Not-So-Fun Heads-Up Post

I saw a really important post on my feed earlier today and wanted to give my stance on it as someone who makes art on here. Thoughts are a little jumbled/rambly so you can check it out below the cut.

I want to clarify, this has not happened to me yet, but I've seen it happen to others and with how many new friends have been stopping by my page I just want to make sure there's no confusion.

When it comes to my work, you're welcome to like and reblog and chat about it. For posts with my original characters, you're welcome to do fanart (not that I'm ever expecting that'll happen, just saying it's fine lol) for them, whatever.

What's NOT okay is ripping my work and re-posting it, or using it as covers for your fanfics.

As someone who tries to replicate the style from the Naruto anime, I've seen plenty of artists like me who have had their original characters taken and used as the face claims/covers for their fanfics on sites like Wattpad, for example. Please do not do this. I and other creators spend so long planning and working and putting our blood and sweat into these characters and for me. It's devastating.

When it comes to me, if you'd like me to do work for your fanfic, you can ask me directly. You can request it when my request list opens back up, or if I end up running commissions soon we can chat it out there.

But please, fanfic authors, do not just go to Pinterest or Google and snatch up the first nice-looking OC you see.

Flurry Heart the “Worst” MLP character? Why this logic is BEYOND stupid.

So on Twitter, I came across a post that somebody made on their Twitter account, commenting on how “Flurry Heart is SUCH a HORRIBLE character!”, all because she’s the fifth Alicorn character.

Oh and did I mention that she’s a BABY Alicorn?

Yes, you read right. “Fans” are being toxic over a baby character, that’s an Alicorn....

I don’t get what their point is. 

First, Flurry Heart’s a baby. Can you REALLY call a character that’s under a year old a Mary Sue or something? I mean sure, she’s an Alicorn Princess, BUT she’s also a baby. As in SHE CAN’T CONTROL HER POWERS YET. 

In the two part premiere episode of season 6, Flurry Heart was a newborn filly, who had yet to even KNOW the extent of her abilities, let alone LEARN how to control her powers. SOOO SORRY that she’s not Stewie Griffin and knows how to do EVERYTHING INSTANTLY. (Note the sarcasm)

Second, the only excuse everyone has pointed out so far is her design, consisting of larger wings, horn and eyes that aren’t “Like any OTHER baby pony design”. Uh, that’s the point though? 

Not EVERY character in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic are gonna have the SAME designs. This goes for body types, eye shapes, mane and tails, colors, Cutie Marks, talents and more. Character designs should be unique and special, like the recent character designs for Disney characters. 

They’re not a bunch of anime characters, where the only differences is their hair styles, eye colors and clothing. (Think of Sailor Moon, where the female characters have the same body types, but different heights and such. You get the idea pretty much)

Third, Flurry Heart ONLY appeared in a total of SEVEN episodes, two where she isn’t “Talking”. And her last appearance was only in both a flashback and on a stain glass. Nothing more, nothing less. 

But everyone on Twitter are acting like she’s the Mary Sue Fusion of Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia. Once again, Flurry Heart only appeared in SEVEN EPISODES, she doesn’t even have a major role in the COMICS except maybe on a cover of one issue and a cameo appearance as a background character. 

Mary Sue? UNLIKELY. If I wanna compare her to one character, it’s Twilight Sparkle, because they both had magic that needed to be controlled and learned. Except Twilight was a school pony when her untapped magic was first revealed, while Flurry Heart’s magic was revealed when she was a baby, in her first debut. 

Four, the NITPICKING from the Twitter Weebs... I’m thinking that they’re just bored with the current MLP series and HOW AGONIZINGLY SLOW it’s going, and they’re just picking and choosing which characters from the FIM series that should be torn apart and “Hated”. 

Actually, this is JUST as stupid as when Twilight Sparkle first became an Alicorn Princess, because the ONLY thing that changed about her was the addition of the wings and a TINY smidgen of height difference. 

Everyone HATED Alicorn Twilight at first, but that died out when they figured out that Twilight’s still Twilight, but with wings and a royal status.

Overall, the hate for one of the most minor characters in the entire MLP Gen 4 series is not only stupid, but also just so like a “Brony” or something. I mean, this is so stupid, I can’t even think of a better way to say how stupid the Weeb argument is!

But everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, especially on which characters they like or not. However, I think everyone also has to have a reason on why they like/hate certain characters, in my opinion, not just say things like “Well I hate THIS character because they’re PINK, or their personality’s BAD, etc.”

Even fans of villains have reasons why they love to hate villains in a positive way without sounding like a bunch of toxic fans. *eyerolls*

So I know I haven’t been all that vocal about this aside from the occasional reblog, but I’m not the biggest fan of HTTYD The Hidden World. I do need to make a full-on post as to why I was unappreciative, but I would like to give a short version. At least what didn’t sit right with me the most.

The ending. Where we see that final intimate moment where Hiccup’s and Toothless’ foreheads are pressed together, and we see the reversal of the scene that hit us hard the most. Them drawing away from each other.

I knew from before, that the ending was supposed to parallel the ending of the HTTYD books. But I abhorred the execution of it.

I’d seen interviews before, where Dean Deblois said himself that ever since they found out the ending of the book series, he wanted the franchise to end the same way. The last book was released here in the States in 2015. Just a year after HTTYD 2, and right at eve of release of Race to the Edge.

But I feel that the way it was structured was absolutely horrendous.

The battle to rescue all the imprisoned dragons and liberate Toothless and the Light Fury, Hiccup saying that humans didn’t deserve dragons, I wanted to tear my hair out.

Because even if you don’t change a single detail of the battle, I hold to this belief and it is rooted.

They always had the capacity of ending it EXACTLY like the books. In that where the dragons didn’t have to leave, but did so anyway. But Hiccup vowed to protect them in his lifetime.

Yes, before I get pummeled, the franchise can be considered a different universe compared to the books. Lemme remind you, Deblois said himself as I wrote above, he wanted these endings to be similar.

The books were a completely different circumstance. The protagonist was Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. The franchise one may bear the same name but not an explanation as to his predecessors. Closest we get is in Riders of Berk with the episode of “Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man”, which gives us that an ancestor of Hiccup’s was indeed a runt as well, although he probably came to change his name.

The series indeed had higher stakes then the events of THW. From Book 9 to Book 12, it was a FREAKING WAR. Between dragons and humans. Either the humans are exterminated, or the dragons. Hiccup was caught in the middle, considered a traitor by both sides. And how it drew its close? The race to find the King’s Things. Hiccup being crowned King of the Wilderwest, living on the island of Tomorrow.

The dragons coming to back down after Furious, the leader of the dragons as the alpha, a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus who had been raised alongside Hiccup Horrendous Haddock II, had been killed. Hiccup the Third and the second-in-command, a white-scaled dragon named Luna, came to negotiations. Hiccup had undergone all of these trials, been proven king, and he vowed that he would protect the dragons as long as he was alive.

Why? Because as the history of the three Hiccup’s had proved, dragons and humans would always be at odds, always be a fragile peace. After Hiccup the Third had passed, it could happen anew that dragons would become slaves to humans. Three Hiccups, spanned over hundreds of years, displayed that the peace between them could not be held.

That’s what the series was. Hiccup had written his memoirs of what he had undergone in his life that led to it. How as he came to old age the dragons gradually came to disappear, retreating to the depths of the earth. How one day he knew not even Toothless would return. The memoirs were left, for in the future when the dragons would assuredly return. To use what he had written to bring about a peace that would hold more solidly.

To bring it back to the franchise, think about it. Hiccup might as very well have done the same. His little narration at the beginning of nearly everything. For HTTYD 1, Gift of the Night Fury, Riders of Berk, Race to the Edge, HTTYD 2. He is telling us his story of what he endured for six years.

Then THW omits the little narration. Sure there’s the This is Berk, but this was for the dragons they’d rescued, not just for us viewers. When Grimmel gets to Toothless and the Light Fury and the other dragons are forced into the warlords’ cages, these are not the high stakes as presented in book series. Then it takes a pep talk from Hiccup, and it takes six young adults in dragon suits to rescue tons of dragons. The dragons joining in and smiting their captors.

Their ships went down easier than the Dragon Hunters! In RTTE it was dodging arrows along with weapons that could not be obliterated with mere dragon fire. It was three separate dragons, and at one point there was even an extent where even the damn ships were dragonproof. In THW the dragons literally bust through the cages on their own. I could go on but my point is the warlords were far too easy to defeat compared to other adversaries.

They defeated them so easily, yet Hiccup still told Toothless that the dragons had to go. The Hidden World was a safe enough sanctuary for them. He just proved, everything else from the past six years as proof too, that they could fight to make sure dragons were never oppressed.

That’s why him saying they had to go, seemed too out of character for me. The fact of six years of fighting, that the warlords seemed like a simple battle compared to others. Hiccup could have made that same promise as his book counterpart. To vow to protect the dragons as long as he lived.

I want to wager to say that there’s small hints of others trying to instigate peace as well. Before Hiccup’s time. I don’t have enough to say the Hiccups before him, but that at least other Vikings tried. The Book of Dragons short, Bork wrote the book just like the Riders had done. He didn’t write about the best way to kill them.

Also, the Riders of Berk episode I mentioned before, “Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man”. What did Hamish accomplish that he felt the need to even hide the fact that he was a hiccup, born small just like Hiccup the Third. We don’t even know if he could be the second or the first. Then I do have another post on this, somewhat wild but I tried to find some kind of rationality. But the creation of the Dragon Eye. I still find it hard to believe that it was created for the hunters to hunt dragons down. Its creation and what it pertains exceedingly sounds like Bork and his book of dragons.

Anyway, that’s what it seems like. Six years of wanting dragons to be free, coming to be that a young man who was called a Dragon Master decided to stop fighting and had the dragons retreat to the depths of the earth. When there was a possibility in front of them.
