summary:

Marinette doesn't really care if she never sees colour. She doesn't really mind if she spends the rest of her life designing in black and white, as long as she can design.

Adrien doesn't care either. Or at least that's what he tells himself. But when their paths cross at one of his father's photoshoots, and the world explodes into colour, not caring is no longer an option.

"Coming, maman!" Marinette bounds down her stairs, running up to her mother. She stands before a delicious feast of baked goods, dusting off her apron.

"How do they look?" Her mother asks bashfully. Marinette knows that her mother knows just how good she is, so she simply grins. "As good as they always do." 

Sabine laughs lightly, pulling her daughter into a hug. "You little flatterer, you."

"What's the special occasion?" 

"Not much. I just felt like baking for my amazing daughter, is all."

"All of this? You have an ulterior motive."

"I do not." Sabine, in fact, does have an ulterior motive. She knows it's her daughter's first official day at her new apprenticeship, under the world-famous Gabriel Agreste. If Marinette is forced to share out baked goods with everybody, she'll have to touch hands with her soulmate. Right?

"Maman, I'm not a child anymore. I can't buy my way to a job with chocolate croissants. You know that." Marinette laughs. She doesn't doubt her ability to move up in the ranks, which is partially why she rejects her mother's baking. She's known as the brave designer who does what no Colourless person would do. Her designs are only in colour. Sometimes, the designs look ridiculous, but her overall craftsmanship seems to have won the hearts of Paris, and at the ripe age of eighteen, she's landed a position that people fight for their whole lives.

She reckons that even if she never met her soulmate, she'd be fine. She's met her match in her designs. But a small part of her likes to hope. Likes to dream that someday, she'll see her designs in all their glory, that she'll never have to second guess her colour choices again. It's a big dream, one that she doesn't know the possibility of. 

Unlike most people she knows, she still hasn't met her soulmate. And she refuses to get in a relationship with anyone who isn't. She's met a few guys who she's liked a lot, but the pain of having to choose would hurt her. After all, if you reject a soulmate, you lose your ability to see colour. And the chance of getting another soulmate after you reject the will of the gods is near nil.

"Take them anyway, ma cherie. You never know."

Marinette sighs, and packs up the baked treats. She considers just eating them on the way in, but she knows she'll regret it in the end. She decides that she'll donate the snacks to the security. Surely they'll appreciate it more than the people in Gabriel's office.

"I'm going now! Have a great day, and say bye to papa for me!" Marinette calls as she runs out of the bakery doors. She's got a deadline to keep to.

Working for Gabriel has been everything that Marinette ever dreamed of, and she's only ever worked with him as work experience. But as university season came, she realised that she was going to need to make a decision. Luckily for her, Gabriel Agreste made it much easier for her with his offer.

The office she's stationed at isn't very far away from her. In fact,  if she takes the metro, she'll get there in less than ten minutes. Even so, she leaves early so that she can enjoy a peaceful walk through the streets of Paris, even though she's lived here her whole life. 

She imagines what the hordes of people look like in technicolour, what the parks and shop fronts look like. When she was a child, her mother would take her to a park and run her hands through the fresh grass.

"This," she would whisper. "Is green. Green is the feeling of grass under your toes and the leaves of a plant. Green is nature and safety." 

Green would always be one of Marinette's favourite colours.

As she makes her way to her new place of work, her phone rings.

"Alya?"

"Hey, girl! How's the first day of work looking?" Alya was one of the people Marinette envied. She had no trouble loving whoever she wanted, whether the world burst into colour when she saw them or not. As far as Marinette was concerned, she still hadn't seen her first glimpse of colour, and she even claimed to not care. 

"I'm not even at the door yet. How are things going for you?"

"Oh, you know. It's going." Alya sighs. "You know Nino can see colour?"

Marinette gasps. If Nino can see colour and Alya can't… It's Marinette's worst nightmare. She never would have wanted that for her best friends.

"I'm so sorry."

"Don't sweat it, girl. He says he doesn't care." The tremble in Alya's voice tells Marinette that despite Nino's words, Alya cares. "He says my eyes are brown, the colour of tree trunks."

"That's not very romantic, is it?" Marinette grins, knowing that that's what Alya thinks. Quite frankly, Marinette wouldn't mind being compared to a tree, or anything from nature. In fact, she loves the idea of it.

"No, it's not," Alya laughs. "I should let you go. Have a great day, okay? I'll be thinking of you whilst I'm in my journalism lecture."

"Alright," Marinette grins. "Have a great day. And pay attention to your lecture. Just because you have a famous blog doesn't mean that you get to slack off in class."

"Whatever," Alya mutters a goodbye and logs off, leaving Marinette to the sounds of Paris again. She doesn't know how she'd fare in Alya's position, but she's glad that she doesn't have to face it.

istg half of the post-s5 finale fics i see have some sort of disclaimer in the tags or summary (or i even just saw one in the title!!) saying the fic was written because the show sucks or the finale sucked or they just hated everything about it

and it's frustrating because i probably would have enjoyed a lot of these fics! but now i'm not even going to touch them because i don't want to engage with people shitting on the show

Yes, they absolutely would! No one is more surprised by this fact than Felix “I need my personal space” Graham de Vanily, who did not realise how touch-starved he was until he met Kagami. Very much like that meme of the cheetah getting a chin rub.

The first few times she would burrow into his shirt and he would not dare to move or breathe too heavily. He’s used to destroying beautiful things, after all.

But eventually he would learn to let go and hold her tight and rest his chin on top of her head and kiss her forehead when she mumbles in a half-asleep state. Which would be so healing for her.

And of course, there’s the fact that they’ve both been terribly abused. Letting your guard down enough to fall asleep next to someone is the ultimate show of trust — especially for Felix, especially after the Nightormentor debacle. Give the boy insomnia and night terrors and let him be the one to be cared for and gently rocked back to sleep…

Also for everyone’s consideration: they’re both early risers, and I don’t think this habit would disappear completely, but they should get to discover the joys of laying in bed idly sometimes. Just. Let them be kids I beg of you

Also also for your consideration: Felix sleeping much better during thunderstorms, since lightning is associated with Ryuko, to illustrate that he is not afraid of the way she loves! ❤️🐉💜🐉

Chapter One - Marinette

Prompt: Dating Sim

In the secret realm of guilty pleasures, where indulgence meets amusement, lies a world where chocolate conspiracies and Netflix binges are celebrated like noble quests. A place where ice cream tubs are thrones, and the remote control wields power unmatched by any swords. The dessert of existence – delightful, often decadent, and occasionally leaving you questioning your life choices. In the grand symphony of life, guilty pleasures are the cheeky notes that play when society’s serious strings take a coffee break.

Or, in Marinette’s case, during your coffee break.

“Oh, Ladybug, Ladybug, Ladybug! What are you doing?” Sitting on the bench by the side of the Seine, Marinette moved around a little to try and get herself more comfortable. She continued to angrily tap around on her phone.

She was sure she hadn’t instructed her sim to do this!

Her eyes shifted back down to her phone, the speech bubbles appearing as her character started talking once again to the guy she was trying her hardest to date, it was such a shame that no matter which option she chose, her character still managed to mess it up.

Example A: Ladybug landed on the rooftop in front of a worried Chat Noir, yet with every option she chose he seemed to get angry and vault off into the sunset. She’d reset the level multiple times and was still failing on getting her date.

…Much like real life.

Why do people keep repeating the whole "class betrayal" but "Marinette's betrayal" isn't as widely spread or repeated much? It feels like everything that happen in s4 mostly swept under a rug especially after Kuro Neko.

Best guess? Because Marinette's the main viewpoint character, which has a few different effects.

Survivorship bias. People who were really pissed at the class might still be able to be invested in other aspects of Miraculous, but most people who got completely fed-up with Marinette just left, they didn't make a bazillion "people get to exact sadistic vengeance on Marinette" fics on their way out.

Betrayal fics almost always star the main viewpoint character of the piece of media. Whether it makes any sense, or not. Percy Jackson has Chaos fics, where Camp Half-blood betrays him and Annabeth cheats on him and then he goes off and finds out that his heritage makes him even more super cool and powerful than he already is as a son of Poseidon, since he's ACTUALLY the child of the primordial being Chaos. Or Ash betrayal fics for Pokemon, where his friends and family are all jerks to him for no reason and then he trains up super-strong and kicks their asses. Or Sunset Betrayal fics for Equestria Girls, where the other girls suspecting that she's the one leaking all their embarrassing secrets out (since she's done this sort of thing before), and she's driven to do awful things and ends up with, I dunno, the Sirens or something. And then there's the Harry Potter fandom, which practically seems to run on this trope, from what I've seen. There's a lot of "everyone in Harry's life is awful to him, so he becomes super smart and powerful and gets his revenge on them", which usually involves leveraging his father being a Pureblood in order to claim some sort of ancestral power and title to lord over people.

Best as I can tell, people tend to take any excuse to latch onto the main viewpoint character, the one we see through the eyes of and are supposed to identify with, and impose a "betrayal storyline" onto them, I'm guessing as a vicarious self-insert thing. But since doing that requires not empathizing with the other characters as much (particularly the ones who are normally depicted doing the betraying), it's rare for the people who are into that to pick it up for a non-viewpoint character.

As for everyone else? Well if you're not interested in the betrayal storyline for the sake of a betrayal storyline, you're unlikely to pursue it all that far, even for the characters you like who you really feel were wronged by the people around them. It just doesn't gain a ton of traction outside of that crowd. They're might be a handful that gain prominence, but nothing like the onslaught of fics where the main protagonist of the series is "betrayed".

It honestly doesn't have all that much to do with what actually happens in the story itself, and more to do with what kinds of stories the fans of that piece of media tend to gravitate towards.
