Bubbler has such a goofy design, but it’s actually grown on me over the years lol, so I redrew one of my favourite shots of him. Oh season one of miraculous, a simpler time….

So, I'm rewatching Miraculous with my brother, and some time ago we finally started watching Season 2. And honestly, Season 2 is a major increase from Season 1.
But in this post we are not going to talk about animations or visuals (which did also improve somewhat). We're going to talk about writing.
1.) Pacing:
In Season 2, though during quite a few episodes the time it takes for a character to get Akumatized is longer, the episode as a whole, and even the beginning part prior to Akumatization, generally goes by faster than they do in Season 1. In Season 1, episodes at times go by quite slowly, and with the lack of variability in the Season itself, causes the Season itself to also drag.
2.) Episode Plot Variability:
In Season 1, the basic plot is usually that Chloe or Marinette cause something to happen because of something involving Adrien, someone gets Akumatized, Chat Noir and Ladybug stop the Akumatized Villain, and everything just resolves itself. For almost every single episode. But in Season 2, even in just the first few episodes, the plot variability changes. Sure, all the episodes still have the Akumatized villain fight framework, but from there, there are lots of changes. For one, more villains begin to get Akumatized for reasons not involving Chloe or Marinette. And when someone does get Akumatized because of those two, Adrien is less so involved. Two, since this season has more actual plot to it, that influences events in the season, especially in "The Collector".
3.) Series Plot:
This Season actually really starts to draw the viewer into the whole series' plot. Season 1 was basically filler, just to introduce us to characters (which isn't really done well). But due to the cookie cutterness of the episodes and the basic framework of the series, the lack of series plot drives the Season into the ground. Whereas Season 2 actually starts to bring more and more series plot into the picture, which makes episodes with the same basic series framework more interesting, and the season as a whole.
4.) Character Motivations:
This part is mainly talking about Marinette. In Season 1, Marinette's main motivation for almost anything that wasn't Ladybug related was Adrien. Which is especially infuriating in episodes such as Volpina where Marinette also could have other motivations behind her actions. (Such as allowing her to be mean to Lila out of personal offense that she is lying about being friends with Ladybug rather than just being mean to her because she's lying to get with Adrien). But in Season 2, we see Marinette's motivations begin to slowly depart from that. Yes, Adrien still does motivate her to do stuff, but it is not as prominent as it is in Season one. Plus, in the episode where Kagami is introduced, we also see that Marinette's jealousy of someone possibly liking Adrien is less of a massive motivator for her actions. Yes, she is still jealous, but it does not affect her actions as much as seeing Lila or Chloe flirting with Adrien does. (Which may also be because of Kagami's character versus Lila and Chloe's).
5.) Frustration With Episode Plots
In Season 1, we constantly have episodes where Marinette is trying to fix something, whether it is because of a mistake or Chloe. But we always see her go through the most complicated method to do it, Dork Diaries style, instead of just talking to someone about it. Again, in Season 2, we see a decrease in episode plots like this. There are still problems, but the problems are not solved in super complicated ways like this when there are simpler options presented. Plus the problems typically presented are different than the ones in Season 1, partially because either Adrien or Chloe aren't involved in the issue at all.
6.) Character Introductions
Season 1 was basically just repetitive filler with only a small amount of plot points brought up. And though Season 1 was supposed to serve as a way to introduce the viewer to the characters, it honestly takes up too much fluff time, introducing the development of the main characters more so in the first few episodes, and then dedicating random episodes to introduce us to new characters. And even with characters that were introduced, there are quite a few that aren't truly developed in Season 1. But in Season 2, we see the writers actually develop these characters and introduce new characters and develop them, all while also putting pieces of series plot within the episodes. And in the case of Gabriel and Hawkmoth, we begin to actually learn about these characters. And I know they are supposed to be mysterious in Season 1, but especially in the case of Hawkmoth, it is not done well, basically just making him a semi-important character standing at the side who is not interesting to watch.

Obviously we know that the writers project their problems onto Chloé, and that’s ultimately the reason why she was replaced last minute by Zoé. But both girls are such wasted potential, and if the show was written by competent writers we could’ve had a really good arc for them both. Ig this post will be my unofficial character rewrite post for the both of them.
Link to my og rewrite post
Some of these ideas probably wont stick, especially with the ones with Zoé since a lot of them are in service to other characters. But ig this is my first draft.
I’d keep Chloé roughly the same in Season 1, she and Adrien are still close, her “friendship” with Sabrina and her admiration for Ladybug are still there. But I would probably change the way she bullies Marinette and have it done more secretly, especially after how Soqueline broke her phone last time she did it publicly. (She’s lowkey important now btw) And I’d also make her friendship with Mrs Bustier more important to her character.
There’d be moments in Season 1 that hint at a future one; but her arc would only properly start in Season 2 with the introduction of Audrey. Chloé would begin showing her vulnerable side, wanting to be seen as exceptional by her mother. She would be given the Bee Miraculous like how she gets it in the show, and would ultimately reveal her identity to prove her exceptionalism to her. Marinette would still lend her the Bee due to necessity, but the public identity rule would definitely be enforced with her and others afterwards.
Where I’d change her arc in Season 2, the changes would mostly lie with her views on her mother. She would first seek her approval whenever possible, but I’d have her realise that she would never be enough for Audrey and would stop caring about getting approval from her. I feel she would definitely start seeing Mrs Bustier more like a mother figure than Audrey too but idk. This would be around the same time Lila starts taking her place as a villain.
Season 3 would come the arrival of Zoé because I feel Season 4 is too late. Zoé would move to Paris after Audrey decides to live there permanently; and where Chloé wanted to be more close with Audrey, Zoé would want to be more close with André. In this choice, I’d want to emphasis how bad both the Bourgeois parents are in terms of parenting; and how the two sisters learn from eachother and bond over their shared experience. I imagine at the start they’re relationship is strained.
In this rewrite, I will have Zoé be the permanent Bee holder. But to make up for this. I’d have Chloé be the one to give her the Miraculous instead of Ladybug. And Idk the exact word for this, but I’d also make her almost a supplier/rich supporter(?) where she has her dad make this giant superhero base for the team where they can train, does that make sense? After that, I’d have Chloé properly better her relationships with Sabrina, Marinette, and Soqueline and Alya maybe.
Anything after Season 3, I can’t think of much when it comes to Chloé. Maybe I’d have her in Season 4 develop new relationships with other characters like Luka and Kagami for example. And with Zoé I’d have her slowly start to become more confident in herself and her abilities, kind of like a mirror to S1 Marinette. Zoé might still have a crush on her too, but I’m kinda conflicted on it since I imagine she’d be a protégé to Ladybug in this rewrite. But maybe it could still work idk.
This rewrite would end at Season 5, and I’d have it that the entire team would stop Monarch instead of just Bug Noire. This would include Marinette/Ladybug, Adrien/Cat Noir, Alya/Rena Rouge, Nino/Carapace, Zoé/Honeybee (because I don’t care for Vesperia), Kagami/Ryuko, and Luka/Viperion

Decided to rewatch Miraculous from the very beginning since season 5 is on Disney+ now! It’s weirdly thrilling, I haven’t seen some of these episodes since I was in elementary school (I’m in university now). It’s also just so sweet??? I’m excited to get to season 4 and 5 because it’ll be the first time I’m seeing them in order, and all in English. Also there’s a smidge of a chance that I’ve missed episodes and don’t even realize… we’ll see! 🐞

I am going back through and attempting to rewatch every episode of Miraculous. And damn Stormy Weather is such a great episode. It's animation is beautiful, the plot is amazing. All the characters are so sweet and innocent. If only they knew what was going to happen...........

* hey do you think the reason Marinette and Alya became friends like, almost immediately, is because Marinette saw Alya stand up to Chloe, without fear, just like Socqueline? And so that’s how she knew she could trust her.

* like I highly doubt that’s what the writers had planned all along lmao but like hmmmmmm what if

AU where ever after someone is deakumatized, they keep some of their power without it changing their body. They just don't have the overflow of negative emotion behind it. Or the manipulation by Hawkmoth.
Just imagine all the good could come from these powers! Because many of these people are good.
Ivan has super strength.
Mr Ramier can actually control pigeons.
Alya can teleport between phones.
Aurore has some weather powers, or she's like Pepa from Encanto.
Nino can bubble anything, like in Steven Universe.
Myléne's dad can mime SOME things and they're reality.
Juleka can change other people's appearances.
Alya's dad can talk to animals.
Alix... hm. she can make somethings disappear.
Mr. D'Argencourt can summon a sword.
Nathaniel's drawing can be pulled right off the page.
Officer Roger can handcuff people without touching them.
Manon can telepathically move dolls.
Max can also make things disappear.
Myléne can calm down from fear easier with touch from people who care about her.
That photographer Pixelator guy can take pictures that are sort of alive like in Harry Potter. But it doesn't get rid of the real person.
Jagged Stone can Blast things away when he plays a certain song.
Kim can fly.
Theo the sculptor can disguise himself convincingly.
Marinette's great uncle can make food bigger.
Rose can control how things smell.
Chloe's (first power) is creating weapons (oh shit)
Lila can create an illusion when she plays the flute (oh shit)
I might write more for season 2 characters.
Let me know if there are different ones you'd choose for these^, I did just come up with them at the top of my head

- Wear her lucky socks
