I know folks is on HOTD and ROP right now, but I just re-watched LCC and watched the new Interview with a Vampire and I have a few points that I peeped as I'm loving IWV and I love LCC. Hang with me y'all because y'all know I love to write on here. So here it goes so like I said I just re-watched Lovecraft Country and I noticed some parallels that I saw with Interview with a vampire that have an intriguing back story to Ruby and Chirstina on LCC and I'm only gonna talk about show not books, but I noticed that Lestat and Christina are the lovers that love their Black Partners, yet there is a toxicity in the love that they hold. They don't understand the lives that their lovers have lived nor do they understand the hurt of racial discrimination they have sadly gone through, and sadly nor do they care for the state of the world in such matters.
Christina and Lestat want the full potential of their lovers as they believed that giving them power would solve the strife of Blackness. And onto that Christina and Lestat push there white ideas on to their lovers whether they be killers or unshackled by the burdens of there familial ties and duty, yet they cannot comprehend that level of uprooting a life dispite having once lived it themselves nor them uprooting a Black life at that. Christina and Lestat often have supernatural and social power beyond reachable measure as a white man and woman living in really segregated times. Not to mention they have other worldly powers as well Lestat being a vampire and Christina a skilled witch in her own right. And while they act as the forbidden fruit when it comes to the tempting and access of power via magic or vampirism they often forget the most tangible essence of life which is something Ruby and Louis hold onto as Black characters.
Now while the god complex that Christina and Lestat carry come from the root of social abuse found in there families and between the relationships there fathers, there ability to indiscriminately ruin lives is fueled by thier whiteness. While Ruby and Louis actions due to there places as victims in a racist society, and in a social context they seek there power in the name of the racial injustices they have faced while being black and human. Louis killing a racist white contractor and Ruby evening the scrore on her once racist & rapist white boss show the parallels of power & humanity underneath there rage. Just as well it shows Ruby & Louis ability to use the powers there white lovers have given them to change. There is so much I wanna say about these two couples but I might put it into a You Tube Video.
Point is White Folks is crazy and they always roping us into shit. 🤣🤣🤣

If Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios does not want to make Black Canary exclusively for HBO Max, a few options remain. There is the chance that the movie could be reworked to move to theaters, a shift that already happened with next year's Blue Beetle movie. There's also the chance that the movie could be reworked into an HBO Max-exclusive series — something that fans of the character were already campaigning for in recent years, and that DC Studios seems to be prioritizing with shows like Peacemaker and The Penguin. Unfortunately, the third option is that the project could end up getting shelved, similarly to what happened to Batgirl.

The Mother (2023)
Tumblr media
The best thing about The Mother is that it gives Jennifer Lopez the chance to play a diffent character than we're used to seeing from her. Turns out she can handle the action thriller stuff pretty well. The film itself is unfortunately more or less what we’ve come to expect from a streaming platform original. It’s well made but ultimately, generic and unmemorable. More content than passion project.
An unnamed U.S. military operative (Jennifer Lopez, whose character is only credited as “The Mother”) gives up her newborn daughter after becoming an informant for the FBI. Initially she was happy to work - and become romantically engaged with - Ex-SAS Captain Adrian Lovell (Joseph Fiennes) and arms dealer Hector Álvarez (Gael García Bernal) but once she found out they were involved in child trafficking, she double-crossed them. Now, they want her dead and no one is safe. Twelve years later, “The Mother” is a recluse living in Alaska when Special agent William Cruise (Omari Hardwick) approaches her. Zoe (Lucy Paez) has been captured by Álvarez's men to draw out their real target. It's a trap, but "The Mother" has no choice.
I can see why the film chose not to give Lopez’s character a name. “The Mother” cares about Zoe but she has no idea how to show it; she’s cold and the only parenting she manages to do is teach the girl extreme survival skills like shooting, trapping, and carving up game once it becomes clear Zoe will have to defend herself from the bad men. "The Mother" was the kind of person who pursued romance once upon a time but now, that’s all gone. Even to her friends, she’s distant. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what's the cause. Giving up her daughter, maybe? Anyway, in execution, the choice not to give her a name makes for some clunky, carefully phrased dialogue. It’s not the only awkward choice. Omari Hardwick’s character is critical to the plot, until about halfway through when he gets dropped and essentially replaced by Zoe. While it’s an unpredictable turn, it minimizes the human connections between our protagonist who, unfortunately, you have a hard time becoming endeared towards. She came to the authorities and said something when she found a shipping container full of children. Cool. Before then, she was selling mines and guns to the kind of people that would round up said children though, so it’s not like she's fully redeemed yourself in our eyes. Even when “The Mother” goes after the men who kidnapped Zoe, it feels like she’s doing it for selfish reasons because she is so unemotional during the whole thing.
On the upside, you hate the villains and seeing them get taken out is satisfying. The “boss battles” are fun - in a nasty sort of way - and varied enough so that seeing "The Mother" and Special agent Cruise take baddies out never gets old. There’s plenty of tension throughout, particularly during the climax. The story moves at a good pace and it's never boring.
The price you're paying for admission to see The Mother - which is essentially nothing since you're already subscribed to the streaming service - is perfect. It's not a bad movie. It's just not memorable. As an action thriller you can throw on the TV to pass some time, it will keep you entertained. I mean that in a good way. (June 10, 2023)

I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Simple action movie with heart (some would say clichéd but hey I grew up in the 90s). And also Jennifer Lopez looking cute as heck while sniping bad guys in Alaska and bonding with her estranged daughter. What's not to like?

The Tomb Raider sequel's working title was Tomb Raider: Obsidian but it might as well have been called The Curse of the Tomb Raider. Another disappointing turn of events for fans of Alicia Vikander's Croft.

Favorite Episodes of "UNDERGROUND" (2016-2017)
Tumblr media
Below is a list of my favorite episodes from the WGN series, "UNDERGROUND". Created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, the series stars Jurnee Smollett and Aldis Hodge:
Tumblr media
1. (1.05) "Run & Gun" - The attempt by the escapees from the Macon plantation to catch a northbound train out of the state is complicated at every turn; while Tom and Susanna Macon have the remaining slaves - especially Pearly Mae, who was captured while trying to run - questioned about their plans.
Tumblr media
2. (1.04) "Firefly" - A notorious slave hunter named August Pullman and his son Ben track Noah and Rosalee, following their escape from the Macon plantation at the end of the previous episode. The other slaves involved in Noah's plot contemplate running, as well. Meanwhile, Ohio abolitionists John and Elizabeth Hawkes face a lethal predicament, when one of the runaways they are sheltering turns hostile.
Tumblr media
3. (2.03) "Ache" - Now an Underground Railroad conductor, Rosalee struggles to evade Patty Canon's slave catching band. Her mother Ernestine is haunted by her past, while adjusting to her new role as a field hand on a South Carolina Sea Island plantation.
Tumblr media
4. (1.09) "Black & Blue" - Rosalee, is captured in a small Kentucky town and held at a pig slaughterhouse, while fellow escapees Noah and Cato plot to rescue her.  John Hawkes (who is also Tom Mason's brother) learns of his wife Elizabeth's reckless action to save the orphaned escapee Boo from her ex-fiancé and U.S. Federal Marshal Kyle Risdin.
Tumblr media
5. (1.01) "The Macon 7" - In the series premiere, Noah begins to plot an escape from the Macon plantation to the Ohio River and free states. He contemplates on choosing which slaves to be included in his plan, while dealing with a hostile Cato, who also happens to be one of the plantation’s field drivers.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: (2.08) "Auld Acquaintance" - When Rosalee's plan to rescue her younger brother James from the Macon plantation fails in the previous episode, (2.07) "28", fellow Macon 7 fugitive Noah struggles to form a new plan to save both sister and brother. Ernestine's attempt to escape from the South Carolina plantation is thwarted by August, whose release had been arranged by Patty Canon.

So now she wants to notice that there were queer characters in her story. I dont know what to think of this mess, for me it seems that Misha's doing this mess because her deal with Tomb Raider fell through, and now her future with Black Canary might be on the line because DC is going bankrupt and might cut that too. Not to mention that Apple hasn't been using her despite being on "Contact" point is if she had been decent to people at HBO she would've been a better position to have more. In Hollywood its best to never piss people off because studios talk and word travels fast when you are toxic, to where no studio wants to work with you. Moral of the story is don't bite the hand that feeds you. There is a reason why this is happening to her, and if she had a better attitude instead of being arrogant and toxic like I said years ago and she would've had more sadly. Nevertheless, I'm glad she made Baby Billy Cannon, but still it's two years too late.

Wasn't lost on me that James Gunn didn't mention the Black Canary movie that Misha has been writing, starring Jurnee. I have no hope it will actually be made, so THIS was nice to see today and takes the sting away a bit.

The Mother (12): Less of Jennifer Lopez's 'booty'. More of her kicking ass.
#onemannsmovies review of "The Mother" (2023). #TheMotherMovie. Netflix action thriller with Jennifer Lopez. OK but formulaic. 2.5/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “The Mother” (2023). “You don’t know how bad this gets” says “The Mother” (Jennifer Lopez) at one point near the start of this film. Well, frankly, I was bracing myself. But the fact of the matter is that this action flick never got really bad. It never got really good. It just sat there, festering, in “meh” land for me. Bob the Movie Man Rating: Plot…
