(I think this is one of my favorite scenes in Dragon Maid and the part where I knew I was hooked, it’s a really small moment but they play Tohru walking out in slow-motion to really sell how bad Kobayashi feels about rejecting the insane proposal in front of her, which is part of the foundation for what a good protagonist she becomes.

But it’s just like... she had an out, she could’ve rejected all these fantasy elements and pretended it never happened, so many shows have the fantastical just barge into a normal person’s life without warning and stay without asking. Kobayashi got the chance to turn it down and because of who she is CHOSE to be thrown into this weird fusion of normalcy and fantasy, because of her empathy for Tohru this is her life now (also because she was late for work but shush)

The agency is nice is all, instead of two people thrown together by fate, Kobayashi and Tohru really are two people that chose to be together and work through the compromise of making a life together and the fact that that could’ve almost not happened really sticks with me for some reason)
