Platonic Henry and Helen, mundane au?
Hello and thanks so much! 🥰 Another three sentences + scene inspired by them, because I love this one. I'll get to the next one tomorrow.
___
He had always wondered why he had been chosen by the Doc, out of all the children that she possibly could have taken in, considering that he was no where near the easiest one to love, the easiest one to raise.
There was only her in his memory--he had no memory of anyone loving him before her, before the brief male figures that had disappeared all too soon, before the little sister that didn't know any better than to love him like a biological brother when he hadn't earned it.
He was all of ten years old when he blurted out the question to her, trying not to cry because he was certain he was a pity case and nothing more, all of ten years old when she told him and broke and healed his heart and held him while he did cry.
___
Henry was quiet as he looked at the Doc as she ran her hand though her hair with a sigh, tapping her pen against the edge of the kitchen table.
It was late, but she had allowed him to stay up with her when he hadn't been able to sleep and Henry found comfort in that.
His baby sister, Ashley, had been put to bed a few hours earlier, the little girl still blissfully sleeping upstairs as the Doc went through papers she wouldn't tell him about and stressed.
Henry knew that he was part of the problem. He had been young, maybe four years old, when she had taken him in.
He had been a wild, almost feral child, left to fend for himself before he could remember, was behind developmentally in things like reading and writing. He had needed speech therapists for years and still needed tutors for school. He just added to the bills, which were probably what she was sorting through right now.
Henry felt immensely guilty for that, considering that the Doc was a single parent, carrying the burden of both of them alone.
Sometimes he was still afraid that she would come to her senses and give him back.
He was an expense she didn't need, he was trouble at school when he didn't try to be, he wasn't a child she had given birth to.
Henry still couldn't figure out why she had adopted him and then decided to have a baby on top of that, right when her husband left her.
Giving him back, because things were only getting harder, made sense, and Henry's stomach squirmed badly as he stared at the table, swallowing hard.
It was why he didn't call her mom. His first mom had clearly decided that he wasn't worth it and he was just waiting, in the back of his mind, for this one to come to her senses and do the same thing.
She liked taking care of strays and the hard cases and he was probably just one of those. She passed them all off eventually and that was a thought that haunted Henry on bad nights, just like tonight.
"Why?" he blurted out, looking at her.
The Doc looked up, eyes wide in her pale face, above dark circles.
"Why what, darling?"
"Why do you want me?"
Her lips parted in shock and she stared at him, as if she had never even considered the reason before, which made Henry's throat tighten.
He told himself not to cry.
"Because I love you."
"You didn't love me when you picked me. You didn't know me. You could have picked any kid. A kid that was less of a pain."
She set her pen down and held his gaze. He looked away.
"Henry--"
"Please, Doc." he whispered.
"I found you, darling." she said softly. "When you were out there, alone and lost."
He looked back up, because she had never told him this. He didn't remember when he had been found, not really. Those early years were lost to him.
"You did?"
"Yes. I....I did fully intend to allow someone else, someone more qualified, take you in."
That made Henry's throat tighten even more. She had intended to from the beginning. The mystery now was why she hadn't yet.
"Why didn't you?"
Her lips twitched and she closed her eyes briefly, making Henry realize with a jolt that she was trying not to cry herself.
"Because you clung to me. Because you trusted me. After you held on to me, after I looked into your eyes, I couldn't let you go. I fell in love with you that day, Henry, and I've loved you every day since."
Henry stared at her and then, to his mortification, burst into tears like he had been struggling not to do.
He was ten. He was too old to be crying in front of anyone, but Henry couldn't stop himself.
The doc got up and walked around the table, wrapping her arms around him tightly and pulling him close, pressing her cheek against the top of his head.
Henry could feel her own tears and just clung to her, unable to fully express how much fear those words took away, how much the confirmation meant to him.
"I love you, my darling. I'll never stop. Never." she whispered into his hair.
"I love you too."

4. Most anticipated book release of the second half of the year
The Beggar Prince by Kate Stradling. Even though she has a much harsher stance toward the fairy tale than I do, I love her fairy tale retellings, and the thought of getting another King Thrushbeard retelling from her--this one with a comedy spin!--sounds utterly delightful.
5. Biggest disappointment
I've read a bunch of wonderful books that disappointed me with the endings. Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell was a wonderful--if weirdly structured--look into 1848 Manchester that fell flat on its face once the trial part of the story ended. A Trial of Words and Worth by Amity Thomsen was a very loose retelling of "The Twelve Huntsmen" that had a fantastic beginning, a wonderful romance and character arc, and excellent writing that reminded me of Shannon Hale's retellings, and then ended with an overly complicated magic system that made no sense. I can't classify the books as total disappointments; what made them disappointing was how much I loved the earlier parts and how the endings failed to live up to the promise.
10. A book that made you happy
As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of the Princess Bride by Cary Elwes was a fun, light, frothy collection of behind-the-scenes stories about the movie. Rather too slight and repetitive, but it gave me a chance to spend time thinking about a wonderful movie and regaining appreciation for the creative process.

Tell me about the blorbo currently hanging out in your brain the most.
@misscrazyfangirl321 Eeeeeee thank you so much for asking this!!! 💖 It made me so happy because one of my blorbos has been spinning donuts in my brain for the past couple days and I've been thinking about him nonstop, lol. I've loved him for four years, but he's made a resurgence lately! His name is Bumblebee. Specifically, Bumblebee from Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015). He keeps the peace around here...or tries to, anyway. <3
I was rewatching this episode ("Metal Meltdown, S2, E3) right as you sent the ask, actually! Perfect timing, lol. ✨And oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. This scene ^ hit me so hard, once again. This episode is one of my favorites for many reasons. Masterful swordsman villain with theatric flair! Cool swordfights, wherein the villain acknowledges Bumblebee (a war veteran with far more years of combat experience than the rest of his young team) as a worthy opponent with skill unseen in quite some time! Beautiful animation and storyboarding, especially in moments of action! But in this scene in particular...I see so much proof of why I love this version of Bumblebee with all my heart. I love RiD Bumblebee so very much because in most continuities, Bumblebee is the most faithful follower to the revered Autobot leader, Optimus Prime; he trains under him and fights beside him during the Cybertronian war, but Optimus is always in charge. In Robots in Disguise, however, Bumblebee is no longer the rookie scout that he was in most shows / movies; rather, RiD is set in Bumblebee's future following the war! Thus, RiD Bumblebee is a young adult, veteran soldier who now is learning to lead a team of Autobots himself, just like Optimus Prime led him. And it's not easy for him at first. He has to find his rhythm, and grow comfortable stepping up as a leader. But Optimus Prime has always believed in him, and Bumblebee wants to honor Optimus, so he does his best. Though other Cybertronians disagree with his methods from time to time, Bumblebee strives to uphold Optimus' longtime axiom of protecting Earth and all humans that live upon it, even at the risk of his own life. No other Transformers story I've experienced thus far has ever captured this well, or even dared to delve into this concept. It's rare for a story to put such emphasis and care into a future version of Bumblebee carrying on Optimus' legacy...but RiD not only does it, RiD makes it so very special. My favorite moment in this video is where the villain, holding a kid captive, has kicked Bumblebee to the ground...but he hears the father come running for his son, fearful of his safety...and Bumblebee forces himself to rise. And, as he rises, the camera focuses on the Autobot insignia shining on his chest. Because that's what a true Autobot does—they get up, no matter what, to save and protect. The father is clearly distressed, and Bumblebee understands his fear; but rather than yell at the father to "get out of the way!" or "step aside!" or something along those lines, Bumblebee simply extends his hand, catches the father, and swoops him away to safety. Then he marches forward, and stares down the villain with righteous fury burning in his eyes, and commands, with no leniency in his voice, "Put the human down." It's so good...! And it really spotlights one of the deepest parts of Bumblebee's character, all while using that part of his character to create a story-driving conflict, because now the villain sees his respect for the humans as a "fatal weakness." Wonderful storytelling. I love it so much.

Henry/Abby, "Want to go see a movie? With me, I mean."
(This prompt gave me life, watered my plants and cleared my skin. I love these two.)
--
"Want to go see a movie? With me, I mean."
Henry blinked, and pointed to himself, as if the whole idea of them going to the movies was a wholly new one on him and not something he'd daydreamed about for the last three months. "Uh… I… uh…” Abby’s face was falling and that wasn’t cool (all his insides were feeling all squirmy and antsy and)-- “Sure! Yes, yes I’d like that,” he added, grinning. “What were you thinking?”
Abby’s lips quirked like the corner had a secret; leaning forward, she asked, “How are you with horror films?”

Send me a ship and a sentence and I'll write the next five.

Top five Biblical figures who aren't Jesus?
Ask Me My "Top 5" Anything....
Paul.
Elijah.
Absalom. I don't agree with all of his choices, particularly when it comes to the rebellion and the sleeping with his dad's concubines, but. I absolutely understand where he was coming from with Amnon. And his reaction to Joab after coming back. Like. I empathize with Absalom a lot, and he is so dear to me.
Gideon. Because for all that people say not to fleece God, we get that from Gideon. Who was afraid and did things anyway. Who did set the fleece out - but we see God showing him both times. Who, when he was supposed to attack, God literally, "Look, if you're scared, here's a thing you can do that will help you." Like God understood Gideon's fears and encouraged him. You know? And I love that. And I love what that says about God.
Ahab. Now. With the caveat that I don't like Ahab. (If we were going with Biblical figures I liked, this would probably be John or Jonathan. Probably.) BUT. I like that God is constantly giving Ahab second chances. I like that we see a clear...Ahab almost doing the right thing. (And then half the time Jezebel gets involved. Not always.) But like. Ahab clearly knew who God was and who Elijah was and when I read those passages in Kings, I see that struggle and the opportunities God kept giving him. To me, Ahab is a tragedy. I don't like him. But there's so much to learn from him. You know?

Okay, how do you send evil boops and super boops? :o
I don't know/think it works on mobile, but on desktop you hover over or hold the paw button. Let it spin once for a super boop, three to four times for an evil boop! :)

This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things or Bad Blood?
Love Story or Begin Again?
Crazier or Fearless?
Never Grow Up or The Best Day?
The Great War or Beautiful Ghosts?
Yay, thank you for asking! You did hit some songs I haven't listened to before or haven't listened to in a while, so thank you for a nice morning soundtrack.
This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things vs. Bad Blood: Bad Blood if it's the album version (no rap) rather than the music video version (with the rap). If it's the music video version, I prefer This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things.
Love Story vs. Begin Again: Ohhhhhhh this is a tough choice. I think I'm going to say Begin Again, though, because healing and finding someone who appreciates you for who you are. <3
Crazier vs. Fearless: I'm less familiar with these two (never listened to Crazier before today; only listened to Fearless a couple times), but I'm going to say Crazier. I like the vibes.
Never Grow Up vs. The Best Day: The Best Day. (Love song for her mum! <3)
The Great War vs. Beautiful Ghosts: The Great War — though I'll admit it has an advantage because I haven't listened to Beautiful Ghosts before today.
Send me two Taylor Swift songs and I'll tell you which I like best!

👀 I don't get that many roses from my husband! (I mean, he is allergic to flowers though so that could be why. 😂) Thank you for the ask, lovely! Ten roses, ten (mostly) random sentences! These aren't all from the same fic, fyi. But yeah... Here we go! 😊
--
"And the money's good," he added, reading the letter again. The clock on Helen's desk ticked on unobtrusively as she watched the play of emotions on his face. The nose scrunch as thoughts whizzed by was something he'd done all his life, the memory barging in unbidden of an eight year old trying to decide between Mario and Sonic.
--
"So are you like Bruce Wayne?" Nikola asked, plopping a plate of toast and a mug of tea on the table.
--
There was silence on the line. Helen moved a few pieces of paper around her desk, waiting for an approval she didn't need but wanted all the same.
--
She knew it was petty but even Nigel received a gift from the blood. Nigel "I won't do a thing unless explicitly asked" Griffin could turn invisible at will.
--
Henry called it her knack, because everyone fell in line when she asked things just 'like that'.
--
A hundred and thirteen years for her crawled by in a blink of his eye, but still she noticed.
