oh, yeah I see now that this would be a really weird post without context.

it’s a reference to this scene in arrested development; the phrase “dead dove: do not eat” got picked up in fandom and writing in general a few years back as a quick indicator of “there’s some fucked up shit beyond this point that might not be your cup of tea, if you proceed anyway and get upset by it that’s on you.” It’s basically a don’t-like-don’t-read label with an added warning that the content is probably triggering or problematic.

it’s become kind of useless in the current climate though, since I guess terfs and fundamentalists decided to merge into some kind of purity culture uruk-hai that goes around ignoring all warning signs and labels and/or deliberately going into tags/blogs they know they don’t like and then acting like what they find was forced on them. and then harassing creators who were just minding their own clearly labelled business over it.

17: Gosh, too many. I’ll mention one I recently added because it’s hilarious: When the paladin tries to smite something and rolls a nat 1. Instead of smiting the evil, the evil becomes smitten with you. An idea I completely stole from this genius right here. We have a paladin, it has happened.12: The best is a reoccurring NPC named Afloater (what some people call a poop that won’t flush.) It came from a name generator 4 years ago when we first started as a group. We liked it so much it stuck and we got attached to him. He was a guard at a palace we ah…murdered. The entire palace. All he wanted to do was protect the prince - who we got killed. We were actually trying to murder everyone BUT the prince; bad family, good prince, that’s the short version. We felt so bad for him and kept trying to find him a new job.For 4 years every campaign we play, Afloater is somehow there looking for a different job each time. He’s currently in Curse of Strahd hiding in a winery vineyard. Everyone at the table screamed in delight upon his reveal.
