Calligraphic Galleon, Ottoman, by Abdul Qadir Hisari
Cargoes
Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir, Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine, With a cargo of ivory, And apes and peacocks, Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.
Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus, Dipping through the Tropics by the palm-green shores, With a cargo of diamonds, Emeralds, amethysts, Topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.
Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack, Butting through the Channel in the mad March days, With a cargo of Tyne coal, Road-rails, pig-lead, Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.

Buttonwood Farm by N. C. Wyeth
A Fairy-Tale Spring
And then she danced….
Where are you, Hyacinth? There is a lover waiting for you somewhere, my dear.
It is the first of Spring. The blackbird opens his yellow beak, and whistles cool and clear. There is blue magic in the morning; the sky, deep-blue above, melts into white where it meets the hills. The wind waits for you up yonder—will you go to meet it? Ah, stay here! The hedges have put on their green coats for you; misty green are the tall elms from which the rooks are chattering. Along the clean white road, between the primrose banks, he comes. Will you be round this corner?——or the next? He is looking for you, Hyacinth.
(She rested, breathless, and then danced again.)
It is summer afternoon. All the village is at rest save one. "Cuck-oo!" comes from the deep dark trees; "Cuck-oo!" he calls again, and flies away to send back the answer. The fields, all green and gold, sleep undisturbed by the full river which creeps along them. The air is heavy with the scent of may. Where are you, Hyacinth? Is not this the trysting-place? I have waited for you so long! . . .
She stopped, and the watcher in the bushes moved silently away, his mind aflame with fancies.
—A. A. Milne, from Once on a Time

Lovers in a Landscape by Muhammadi
Spring
VII
O Eyes, go forth the Spring to view, That smiles upon our Plains anew. A Heavenly Child in cradling Flowers, Sweet Breath from Skies unclouded drew. The Morning Breeze his Nurse, that rocked His Cradle, with soft Lullings due. The Baby feigns to sleep, and blinks, Shutting his little Eyelids two. And when the Lids are oped again, The Eyebrows drip with sparkling Dew. The Bees hum round and busy sip The Nectar, and make Honey new. O come, and let the Baby's smiles And Laughter, pierce thee through and through. O come, and leave your wintry Cell, And let Heaven's Light thy Life renew. And build new Cells with honey'd Wax, Plann'd like the Bees' six-sided, true. And warmed by radiant Fire of Flowers, Old Winter's reign of Death undo. Regret is dead; Love lives again; New Life transforms the Landscape's Hue. Bold enter, then, green Spring's loved Haunts, And drink fresh Wine, nor fear to rue. And drinking full Love's sweetest Draught, The glowing Heart new Love shall woo. Love wakes afresh in Earth and Heaven; The Rose in green, the Sun in blue. O Nightingale, behold thy Rose! O Eagle, thy bright Sun pursue!

On 20 May 685 The Battle of Nechtansmere, in present-day Angus, was fought.
This always a battle I like posting about, not the battle itself, the story that happened hundreds of year later, which I will get round to later.
The Battle of Nechtansmere is little known nowadays, but it secured Scotland’s future as a nation. Fought between The Picts and the Northumbrian Angles if we had lost Scotland could well have become part of the southern neighbours we spent so many times fighting.
Latterly known as the Battle of Dunnichen, it was fought in the shadow of Dunnichen Hill, to the east of the borough of Forfar, on the 20th of May, in the year 685
The Picts, led by their king Brude Mac Beli defeated the invading army through their clever manoeuvres. Ecgfrith was drawn off his original route by a feigned Pictish retreat. The Northumbrian army burst through the cleft their enemies had gone through only to stumble upon the Picts fortress. Most of the army were slaughtered by the waiting Picts and King Ecgfrith was slain. After the battle, the Picts buried their dead through the following night. They carried on until 2.30am, requiring torches to finish the rest of the work.
Now to my favourite part of the post, roll on over 12 hundred years to the 2nd January 1950, and a woman called Miss E.F. Smith, and described as a spinster, who was driving home from a party in Brechin at about 2am. Her car had skidded into a ditch 2 miles outside the area due to the treacherous road conditions. She still had another 8 miles to go so she continued her journey on foot. She felt oddly nervous as she walked along the minor road west of the A932, then she saw a number of strange lights in the distance near Dunnichen Hill. Turning south towards the village, she noticed figure in the field to her right, part of Drummietermont Farm. Each figure carried a flaming red torch in its left hand and they seemed to be searching the ground for something.
Miss Smith then saw shapes on the ground exactly like dead bodies. The figure nearest to her stooped down and examined several of these ‘corpses’, turning them over and back again, as if looking for recognisable faces. This scene lasted for around ten minutes, with Miss Smith’s dog barking throughout. Eventually she simply walked away. She only realised that the whole event was peculiar when she woke up next day and thought about it. Later she gave details of the experience to the Society for Psychical Research. She reported that the searchers wore garb like body stockings, along with tunics and flattened oval helmets. They appeared to be moving around the edge of the vanished mere, the shape of which was later traced by archaeological investigation.
Although this post battle manifestation has not been repeated. some motorists passing through Dunnichen on misty nights have caught sight of fleeting human forms which vanish before their cars hit them.
There is some skepticism as to how real Miss Smith’s sighting was. She was travelling very late at night and had already walked a number of miles, not to mention suffering a trauma from skidding her car into a ditch. The vision could have been brought about as a result of exhaustion and the effects of the cold. However, the fact that it occurred at the exact site of the Battle of Nechtansmere seems to be too much of a coincidence and it is unlikely that the woman’s dog would react to something that occurred only in his owner’s mind.

Savachi is from the Kingdom of Eldoria, a fictitious medieval realm nestled between misty mountains and rolling green hills. Eldoria is ruled by King Aleathic III, a fair and just monarch known for his wisdom and benevolence. The capital city, Arindale, is a bustling hub of trade and culture, with its towering castle overlooking the cobblestone streets below.
Surrounding Arindale are lush forests teeming with mystical creatures and hidden ruins from ancient civilizations. To the north lies the Frostpeak Mountains, home to fierce yet noble clans of dwarves who mine precious gems and metals coveted throughout the kingdom.
In the heart of Eldoria, the River of Serenity flows, providing fertile land for farming and sustenance for the kingdom's people. Along its banks, picturesque villages dot the landscape, each with its own unique traditions and folklore.
Eldoria is also known for its chivalrous knights, who uphold honor and defend the realm from threats both within and beyond its borders. The Order of the Silver Lion, led by the valiant Sir Tristan, is renowned for its bravery and unwavering loyalty to the crown.
But amidst the beauty and grandeur of Eldoria, dark forces stir in the shadows. Rumors speak of ancient curses and forgotten evils awakening once more, threatening to plunge the kingdom into chaos. Only time will tell if King Aleathic and his loyal subjects can stand united against the encroaching darkness and preserve the peace of Eldoria for generations to come.
This is very well thought out because most of the book is going to be set in Eldoria (I'm planning on making 3 books) :D

Day Ninety-two
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The forecast was correct as the rains bucketed down over Ilfracombe this morning. So, I had a good lie in to wait out the high winds and rains to finally start making my way around noon.
My route out from town continued up and up into the high hills, soon entering the low-lying clouds as the day takes on a grey misty tone. The farmlands on the hills around me are only hakf visible in the misty day.
I track my my over Devon's rolling hills to descend from the clouds and rejoin NCN Route 27 at Knowle, which finally begins a nice stretch of smooth flat riding after yesterday's challenge of Exmoor.
The trail tracks around the River Caen as it runs through Braunton, where the skies decide to open once more. With fortunate timing I'm able to be out of the weather as I stop for a ahort break and resupply, and jump back on the path once the rains clear a little.
Out from Braunton, the route passes RMB Chivenor before running along the salt marshes up the wide River Taw, with some good views across the water, before crossing over the bridge at Barnstaple.
It's more lovely smooth flat riding following the old rail line as it heads back down the Taw to Instow, where it turns to follow the River Torridge and down to Bideford.
With the rising along the Tarka Trail being so enjoyable after the tough work yesterday, and wanting to still take things a little easier whilst my throat heals up, I decide to stick with the NCN eoute for a jaunt inland awhile and keep on with Cycle Route 3 as it heads along this excellent old rail line, which will eventually reconnect with the coastline at Bude.
Onwards! The route continues up the River Torridge for a good while now, through leafy green avenues of trees and farmlands. It does an excellent job of keeping nice and level meaning some good easy riding continues on down to Torrington.
The sound of the river flowing nearby is a nice background noise, and the path crosses over it a few times to give some nice sights of it flowing back.
The elevation does start to increase from Torrington as it departs the river and heads up into the hills. Thankfully it plots a gentle gradient and it's not too strenuous a job to ride up the long climb.
After cresting the summit of the hill, it's a good gentle descent back down through more forested areas, which allows a nice break for the legs to cruise along.
My time with the rail line finally ends as Route 3 turns off and back to the roads near Petrockstowe. It's up more hills through North Town as the route starts to lead on through the farming communities dotted around the countryside here.
With the evening setting in I start keeping an eye out for a spot to pitch up for the night, and a patch of trees off the road near Sheepwash presents a convenient location to call it a day.
Not too bad a day all things told. I'm still trying not to go too hard to let my immune system finish off this irritating sore throat, and have been sucking my way through throat sweets for the day. Fingers crossed that the weather is a little brighter tomorrow for some easier going.
TTFN!

Iceland honeymoon day 3 -
Today was a big driving day - around 430km to Akureyri where we're spending the night. There were only two points of interest on the agenda today, but plenty of interesting, changing landscape (when we could see, since we were stuck in misty fog for most of the time!) ranging from big hills to deep valleys. We also spent some time admiring a herd of Icelandic (I think...) horses - they're so cute!!
The first stop was to Hvitserkur where there's a big basalt island / rock formation just off the shore, along with a nice little waterfall. Next was Glaumbær to check out the turf houses. What we didn't realize was that the houses are within a museum - it didn't seem interesting enough to spend €16 per person so we walked around the area instead and I took a picture of the turf houses from the free side of the fence 😁.
What really struck me today was just how isolated parts of this country is. You might see a single lone house/farm nestled at the base of a mountain and then drive for half an hour before you see another house or smattering of houses. On 20th May 685 The Battle of Dun Nechtain, in present-day Angus, was fought.
Also called The Battle of Nechtansmere, this is an event I always like exploring and posting about, not just for the ancient battle itself, fought long before Scotland as a country existed, but for something that hapenned centuries later.
Dun Nechtain is little known nowadays, but it helped secure Scotland’s future as a nation.
Smith, described as a spinster, was driving home from a party in Brechin at about 2am.
The pic is of a Pictish symbol stone depicting what was once generally accepted to be the battle
There is much more on Miss Smith’s experience here https://mikedashhistory.com/2010/06/28/a-scottish-spinster-at-the-battle-of-nechtanesmere-685ad/

Families wanting to get away from the bustle of the city and take in the splendour of nature will find this to be the ideal destination. Selecting the ideal resort that meets the needs and tastes of each family member is one of the most important parts of organising a family holiday in Munnar. We'll walk you through all the important things to think about when choosing a family-friendly resort in Munnar in this thorough guide, so everyone has a fun and memorable time.
Location and Accessibility
When selecting a family-friendly resort in Munnar, the location and ease of access should be your main priorities. To ensure that your family can conveniently experience Munnar's natural beauties without having to endure a long commute, choose a resort that provides easy access to famous sites like tea farms, waterfalls, and vistas. Furthermore, guarantee that the resort is located far from the city's noise and pollution in a tranquil and safe place.
Accommodation Options
Diverse lodging demands, from large rooms to connected suites or cottages, are frequently associated with family holidays. A resort that provides a range of lodging choices appropriate for families of different sizes should be sought after. Cosy and well-equipped rooms can add to the convenience and enjoyment of your trip, regardless of whether you're travelling with young kids, teenagers, or elderly relatives.
Facilities and Amenities
A wide range of services and amenities should be provided by Munnar's family-friendly resorts in order to meet the varied needs of their patrons. There has to be something to enjoy for everyone, including spa services, recreational opportunities, kid-friendly play areas, and swimming pools. To ensure the whole family is occupied during the trip, find out if the resort offers organised excursions or sightseeing tours, family-friendly dining alternatives, and childcare services.
Safety and Security
Security and safety are your family's top priorities when travelling. Select a resort that places a high priority on visitor safety by installing sufficient security measures, such as CCTV monitoring, locked doors, and round-the-clock personnel availability. Ask about the resort's medical facilities and emergency procedures as well to make sure help is close by in case of any unanticipated events.
Reviews and Recommendations
Examine the opinions and suggestions left by other families who have visited the resort before making a reservation. To determine whether the resort is appropriate for your family's holiday, look for reviews on aspects like cleanliness, friendliness, food quality, and the general atmosphere. To gain firsthand knowledge about the top family-friendly resorts in Munnar, you can also ask friends, family, or travel forums for advice.
Budget and Value for Money
When selecting a resort, it's important to take your family's needs into account, but it's also important to think about your budget and make sure you're receiving value for your money. Examine the inclusions and amenities included in each package and compare pricing among Munnar's resorts.
