In 1978 MIT CS students Danny Hillis and Brian Silverman designed a working computer capable of playing tic-tac-toe against a human opponent entirely out of Tinker Toys.
The machine consisted of 10,000 wooden parts and fishing line, and was designed with the help of a LISP program running on a DEC PDP-10.
In a letter to computer pioneer Gordon Bell describing the project, Hillis said the machine could have been built by any six-year-old with 500 sets of Tinker Toys, and a PDP-10.

LEGO Ping-Pong Ball Collecting Robot by Fred Martin and Brian Silverman (1995), MIT Media Laboratory, Cambridge, MA. “There is a real need for better resources for both fledgling and intermediate LEGO builders. The plans that the LEGO company distributes with its kits are very good at showing how to build specific models, but not so good at teaching how to design from one’s own ideas. At the MIT Media Laboratory, we’re working on a project we call the LEGO Constructopedia, a hypermedia resource for LEGO designers that will include LEGO building plans, design principles, textual descriptions, and rendered animations, all interlinked, indexed, and browsable. … The robot, a ping-pong ball collector, was designed by the author and Brian Silverman. Sitting on top of it is the Programmable Brick, a robotics controller for kids recently developed by the author and his colleagues at the MIT Media Laboratory.” – Fred G. Martin, The Art of Lego Design, The Robotics Practitioner: The Journal for Robot Builders, vol.1, no.2, Spring 1995.

Deep Cave Monster: Basalm
This monster has special organs in the center of its palms - when armed, these organs are capable of detonating on impact, causing a powerful explosion. It uses this blast to break through the rock shells of Crustore. This blast is so powerful that it destroys the Basalm’s arm, but it will regrow over time.

Unfortunately I cannot tag Jetty in this because she hasn’t gotten here yet, but while I don’t think Stan and I are interchangeable or anything, he certainly is the character I think is the most like me in the entire series. What that says about me I’m not sure but there is most definitely no one else that makes me slightly grit my teeth in the way he does ahaha, down to having a sibling that is much much smarter than I am but has like 1/10th of the low animal cunning and/or common sense, depending on how you look at it.
