MLB Season 4 Character Analysis: "Mr. Pigeon 72"
Introduction
Hello Reddit, I'm back with another MLB season 4 character analysis. In this series, I analyze the thought processes, emotions and motivations of the characters of Miraculous in every individual episode of season 4 to help the fandom understand the journey of all the characters and what they are all going through.
"Mr. Pigeon 72" was the first episode of Miraculous where things got toned down from all the angst we've been seeing in the past three episodes. It hasn't gotten quite back to the level of a regular episode of Miraculous meaning it's still a good episode which progressed the plot and introduced us to the magical charms that protect people from becoming re-akumatized and Ladybug's new suit which from now on will come back again when she uses her Lucky Charm. Oh yeah, and Mr. Pigeon is akumatized for the 72nd time, as the title suggests so without further ado, let's get into the character POVs.
Character POVs
Marinette/Ladybug
"Apparently, life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain"
So starting off with Marinette, we see her desperately trying to find out some kind of magic that can stop people from becoming akumatized, in her Ladybug form to protect herself from the magical explosions and when Alya tells her that Adrien and Kagami have broken up, Marinette immediately starts worrying about Kagami and how she must be heartbroken instead of being glad that they broke up meaning that Kagami was no longer in the way of her getting with Adrien.
Alya is surprised that Marinette is thinking about Kagami rather than Adrien and Marinette rationalizes this by saying that Kagami has no friends besides her and claiming that she was no longer in love Adrien, although it was in denial of her true feelings. This is yet another sign showing us that Marinette is willing to give up her own happiness for the happiness of others including Adrien and Kagami, similar to "Heart Hunter" and "Miracle Queen". Another reason for this responsible ties back to what happened in "Truth" as the last to she had a boyfriend, it led to him getting akumatized and Marinette lost all hope for romance in the future and that includes Adrien knowing that if she does go after him, it won't mean anything because he would get akumatized just like Luka.
She starts trying to get Kagami back together with Adrien much to Kagami's annoyance who constantly tells her that she no longer has feelings for him. This moment is where we first see Marinette's desire to control everything which is another symptom of PTSD which we know happened due to Cat Blanc and we will continue to see Marinette try to control things in future episodes. She eventually stops after she takes down Mr. Pigeon with the help of Rena Rouge and gives him his magic charm when Kagami tells her that when Kagami tells her that she felt all the things Marinette asked her about feeling for Adrien but from her and Marinette finally accepts her love for Adrien.
On an unrelated note for Marinette's character arc, one thing I want to talk about is when Marinette told Kagami that she knows Adrien's schedule for the next 3 years. People say that this is "stalker behaviour" but when you look into the details, it really isn't. Don't get me wrong, I can completely understand why people would think this is creepy but when you dig deeper, her knowing Adrien's schedule "for the next 3 years" means nothing because:
i) Adrien has a controlling dad who micromanages every part of his life which makes his schedule the same thing day in, day out and whenever he does do something different its all over the news.
ii) She has schedules for all her classmates because Marinette is planner, not a stalker and she plans stuff for her other classmates too using their schedules to see when they are all free and she has Adrien's memorized because it's just easy to memorize because of how repetitive it is.
OK, now that that's out of the way, let's move on.
2. Kagami
"You know Marinette, that whole heart-beating, tingling, knees trembling thing, I felt all that- from you. You're the one blushing and stuttering and saying silly things every time that you see Adrien, you're the one who knows his schedule by heart for the next 3 years. You're right Marinette, Adrien is perfect, he's perfect for you."
Kagami as we see in this episode, she is still a little bit bitter about Adrien lying to him back in the episode "Lies" and gets frustrated from Marinette trying to push her and Adrien back together and you can kinda tell this is getting annoying for her. She tries to be firm with her and tells her that she is no longer in love with Adrien but Marinette keeps making excuses to get her to come and she progressively gets more and more annoyed. At the end of the episode, Kagami becomes an Adrienette shipper and makes Marinette realize that she is the one for Adrien, showing to us that she has completely moved on from him.
That's really all there is for Kagami this episode, since this episode is primarily focused on Marinette and the rest of the characters here probably will have just as brief of an analysis as Kagami.
3. Alya
"You're not alone anymore Marinette, I've got your back"
This episode is the beginning of Alya's hero arc and in this episode she continues to be the great friend she is and tries to get Marinette to do something besides stay in her room all day trying to figure out a solution to re-akumatizations by revealing to her that Adrien and Kagami broke up so now she has a chance to be with Adrien again. It doesn't work in the way she intended it to but she's just glad that she's going outside to get some fresh air and doing something that doesn't involve her superhero life and offers to try figuring out the solution to re-akumatizations for her while she is.
When Mr. Pigeon is akumatized for the 72nd time, she helps Marinette as Rena Rouge by creating illusions of Ladybug and Cat Noir and after Mr. Pigeon is defeated, she is the one to figure out that the only limits to a Miraculous holder's powers are the limits they put on themselves and she was the reason Ladybug got the idea to make magical charms.
4. Xavier
"Do you hear that, my friends? We'll never be Paris's villains again!"
And of course we end off with the akumatized villain of this episode, Xavier a.k.a Mr. Pigeon. For those of you who didn't know, that's his actual name.
This man is tired of getting akumatized and he is just a man who cares deeply about his pigeons as we've seen in previous episodes, that has made him an easy target for Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth. And he get's struck again when the producer Bob Roth puts the blame on him when Gabriel "figures out" that the birds in his son's ad are pigeons and not doves and tells him that he'll get the mayor of Paris to ban pigeons from Paris. When he is de-akumatized again, Rena Rouge figures out how Ladybug can stop re-akumatizations and Ladybug gives her first magical charm to him, he is filled with joy as he will never be a victim of Shadow Moth again.
Conclusion
Well, that's the end of my "Mr. Pigeon 72" character analysis and since this episode focused more on Marinette accepting that she loves Adrien again her section has the most detail. As always, let me know if I missed something in this analysis, I would very much appreciate the feedback and if your a Marinette fan like me join my subreddit.

Marinette Traumatized & Could Have Been Killed. Well since you hate Chloe, want to Cataclysm Kim (and somehow ignore the filmer Sabrina who loved the smoke).
Allow me to deride your wah I despise Chloe, I want Marinette protected from what isn't Sabrina or SockayLEAN (or shippers for Adrien and Marinette that's not Andre Glacier) or how you're like Kim had the rejection coming all of a sudden from messy Flashback etc. crap.
Mr. Pigeon 72
Marinette did the same thing. She could have killed Adrien and or mostly Kagami and herself. Different purpose similar outcome. Could have became a trauma causer (I guess again but whatever).
Funny thing. Hating Alya for being pushy for Adrienette and boundary disrespect.
Marinette doing that on Kagami who no longer is interested for the Kagadriemn she's forcing against her.
Girl straight up caused a distraction against Adrien's bodyguard just to sneak her and Kagami to a private session, ruining Adrien's session for shipping nonsense.
So do talk about Mr Pigeon 72 since you wish to be so concerned from Derision.
Notice how things ironically look worse on the protagonist end?
Scratch that, Ladybug is the PROANTAGONIST :)

I really want to know what was going through Gabriel’s head every time he akumatized Mr. Pigeon.
“I’ve akumatized him 26 times and he has failed every single one.” and then he proceeded to akumatize him 46 more times.

saw your post abt the whole adrigami marinette salt mess and gotta say thank god im not the only one who found it weird that kagami told marinette that adrien, her ex who she thought was lying to her to avoid her, was perfect for marinette like ????? I mean I get why they did it, for a sweet "they're perfect for each other" adrienette moment but STILL
Yeah I legit found that scene weird. I didn't even watch the episodes with a lot attention when they aired and I saw posts like "Kagami was so awesome for recommending a boy she's in love with to Marinette cuz Marinette loves him more" and I was like "oh yeah, that sweet Mr Pigeon 72 scene" and then I rewatched Lies and Mr Pigeon 72 when they aired on TV and I was like "wait so Kagami STILL thinks Adrien is bad so why would she want Marinette to date him? I mean I know she knows about Marinette's crush but...in Kagami's mind Adrien is a BAD boyfriend?????" Maybe it was more about continuity but we know that even later Kagami didn't forgive Adrien so maybe she, like everyone else, knows he's in love with Marinette and thought he would treat her better... Idk really, maybe it's this. Also we know from Glaciator 2 that Kagami thinks Marinette confessing to Adrien would make Adrien happy when he was sad so I think she just assumes he's in love with her and he would be happy with her and treat her good. So Kagami makes EVERYONE in the show knowing Adrien is in love with Marinette except for Adrien????😭😭😭😭😭

To clarify, this does not mean your favorite episode, but rather, your favorite episode of this ship. Because this had to be whittled down so much to fit into the amount of spaces available for a poll, this doesn't include every Adrinette episode, so feel free to click other and put your episode in the tags!
This is for the purpose of satisfying my curiosity of ship trends in ml, so please share for a larger sample size!

I already analysed how Reunion brilliantly tackles the post-truth society and social media here. If you thought that that was overanalysing, you may want to skip this one...
Now there, I mentioned that there is a toxic social media culture in the ml universe which antagonises the heroes despite all the good they did.
In this context, Joan of Arc proves to be a perfect guest hero.
Joan is different from Marinette in many ways, but the parallels are very strong too.
First, the differences. Joan is head-strong, more of a brute force type of person. Conversely, Marinette frequently uses the soft power of thought.
Joan: why aren't you doing anything? Attack! Ladybug: I am not inactive, I am thinking.
The Lucky Charm, a pen, that Ladybug receives is perhaps an even better illustration.
Joan: what are you going to make with that useless sword?
Does this quirky line ring a bell? "The pen is mightier than the sword", perhaps?
And Ladybug's immediate reply to it:
Ladybug: We will write a letter!
In this case, Ladybug perceives that issue is not one that can be solved by brute force. The akumatisation is caused by the social media discourse antagonistic to Ladybug, so the solution must be in the written too. You musn't reply hate speech with physical violence. Excellent symbolism.
I also feel like this touches upon the French tradition of fighting tyranny with knowledge and writing. After all, the Enlightment philosophers like Rousseau and Voltaire would publish their thoughts on the oppressive monarchy in the Encyclopédie, creating tremendous impact on the French society by providing the ideological basis for the French Revolution.
All in all, unlike Joan, Ladybug seems to be better armed to fight those who disprove of her.
Now let's come to the similarities.
I may be overanalysing here, but I sense that there is some sort of "divine guidance" theme going on. Joan of Arc was guided by God in her destiny to liberate France from the British. She claimed to talk to God and was taken for insane at the beginning.
Similarly, only Marinette can see and talk to Joan, which puts her in a funny situation with both Alya and Chat Noir questioning her sanity, to which Joan replies:
Joan: they would take me crazy for my clairvoyance too.
And still, Ladybug is able to answer the first question of the akuma thanks to Joan's guidance.
In a way, we could think that being a Miraculous holder in times of need was both Marinette and Joan of Arc's destiny.
Another similarity is no doubt the fact that they are both heroes (doh). Their antagonist is different: Ladybug is fighting the Monarch alongside with her partner Chat Noir, whereas Joan of Arc is fighting the Cat Miraculous holder himself. But, what really matters is that, they both end up antagonised by their respective society.
Joan of Arc may have saved the French from the British invasion: it doesn't stop her people from declaring her a witch and burning her on stake.
Ladybug may have saved the citizens of Paris hundreds of times (only Mr. Pigeon 72 times!): it doesn't stop some Parisians from criticising her and even siding with the Monarch.
At this point, we must also see things at a larger scale:
Who ordered/supported the burning of Joan of Arc? The King.
Who is Ladybug fighting? The Monarch.
This also ties back to the argument earlier that draws upon the anti-monarchist revolutionary history of France.
All in all, Reunion seems like a cautionary tale to me. Ladybug and Chat Noir may have the support of the public today, but we see that the wind may quickly turn. This season opened with a giant crowd cheering on Ladybug and Chat Noir, but so far nearly every episode jabbed at Ladybug for losing the Miracle Box:
Chloé in Multiplication: It's because Ladybug and Chat Noir are incompetent that we are in danger.
Chloé in Determination: All this is because you are lame, Ladybug, and you lost the Miraculouses because of your lameness!
Social media user in Reunion: We trusted Ladybug and she made everything worse by letting the Monarch steal the Miraculouses.
But the most alarming line comes from Mayor Bourgeois:
Mayor Bourgeois in Determination: And what if Ladybug continued to fail over and over again? That we never see her heroes again? Believe me, in politics, we adapt to the times.
Admittedly, Mayor Bourgeois is heavily influenced by Chloé and her personal hate of Ladybug. But one must not forget that Mr. Bourgeois has shown over and over again that he is an opportunist and very much the stereotypical teflon politician. If a time comes where he senses that supporting Ladybug and Chat Noir's activities is costing him votes, he could very easily "adapt to the times."
Am I overanalysing this? Probably. But as unlikely as it seems to be that the Parisians turn against the heroes, I feel like this antagonism of heroes will continue to be a constant background reminder for the rest of the season.

That's the topic for today. Thanks Derision.
Why does this pool have more than 1 floor?
Diving section probably has been structure to have water in the range. Still dangerous.
If you think about it, water = slippery floors = possible disaster.
Marinette is a bonehead for thinking she is safe (I'll ignore that for the flashback).
Now then, since I'm hearing this Chloe could have killed Marinette crap. This is Kim's will, she's spectating, Sabrina's filming. If she survived was damaged or didn't, this will not end well for only Kim and maybe Sabrina. It looks bad for all who aren't Chloe actually. Them dealing with it? *Shrugs* Lifeguard wasn't on guard, he's most screwed of all. And the whatever staff members of the pool organization, itself would be definitely screwed (1st for lack of guards and then...) for it's stupid structure remaining unchecked. That lifeguard is a moron for not addressing such possible hazard.
Multi floors for pool area shouldn't exist.
Time to tell you why that oh Marinette traumatize and potential kill or some damage is obselete. Since you wanna talk about possible killing. Allow me to deride your concerns, thanks to Mr. Pigeon 72.
Marinette did the same thing. She could have killed Adrien and or mostly Kagami and herself. Different purpose similar outcome.

Ml plot point: Hawkmoth is not trying particularly hard with any individual akuma. Since it takes less effort on his part to make them that it does for LB and CN to fix them, he just keeps making them often enough to mess up their social lives and stress them out. Eventually they WILL make a mistake and lose. He can lose 1000 times, but he only needs one win and it's over. This does get rid of the "Curse you Lady the Bug-ypus" rant after every akuma defeat, but it gives him an actual strategy.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah absolutely that's why, as ridiculous as it sounds, making Mr. Pigeon 72 times isn't that insane of an idea.

Rewatching ML Season 4
Truth: Luka is fed up with Marinette lying to him. Ladybug is put under a truth spell and says that she appreciates Chat Noir’s courage, confidence and jokes. Chat Noir says he’s only that happy with her.
Lies: Marinette watches TV program about Adrien and says his life is awesome, even though sometimes he looks bored or sad. Adrigami scenes. Kagami wants to draw Adrien and says that neither his model poses nor Chat Noir pose is really him. She wants him to be more natural and vulnerable. A few times they almost kiss, but Adrien has to go to help Ladybug. Kagami is fed up with Adrien’s lies. More: Luka vs Adrien and Kagami vs Ladybug. Chat Noir sacrifices himself again.
Gang of Secrets: Ladybug and Chat Noir go to the cinema. Ladybug is frustrated with her love life and doesn’t want to talk about it neither with Chat Noir nor her friends. Marinette is fed up with lying and finally tells Alya that she’s Ladybug.
Mr Pigeon 72: Adrien brought Plagg a big bag full of cheese. He’s “lucky” his father is neglectful, otherwise he would take him to psychologist. Marinette, why are you so stupid (again). Adrien is turned into a pigeon. Adrien is so focused on Marinette that he hits his head when getting in the car.
Furious Fu: —
Sole Crusher: Hi, Zoé. Marinette is short with Chat Noir like Ladybug.
Queen Banana: Chloé wants to be a film star. Adrien wants her to apologise, but she refuses.
Guiltrip: Adrienette moment, Adrien makes googly eyes at Marinette. There’s a pink background, but it’s hard to say if it’s just Marinette who sees her friend this way—it looks like Adrien does too! He comforts Juleka. Chat Noir tries to kill himself. Adrien mocks Chloé.
Optigami: Marinette and Adrien are stuck together in the lift during Akuma attack and they almost reveal themselves.
Sentibubbler: —
Rocketear: Nino thinks Alya’s in love with Chat Noir. Nino tells Adrien that he and Alya are superheroes. Adrien is taken aback that Ladybug let them know their true identities and is worried that Ladybug doesn’t trust him. Nino says Ladybug thinks Chat Noir is disgusting. Adrien is sad during transformation.
Wishmaker: Adrien doesn’t know what he wants to do in the future and says he’s a model now just because his father asked told him to. Marinette and Luka notice Adrien is sad. Adrien again makes googly eyes at Marinette. Luka learns Ladybug and Chat Noir’s true identities. Adrien says that as a child he wanted only to fulfill his parents’ wishes.
Mega Leech: Adrien is shocked to see that his father lied to him about the advertisment. Gabriel treats Adrien’s image as his possession. Adrien is sad and angry. He takes Marinette’s hand during the protest. Chat Noir is possessed by the villain. Adrien notices Marinette is fascinated with the advertisment and isn’t sure what to make of it. Gabriel is angry at Adrien for joining the protest and sends him to his room, touching the wedding ring.
Simpleman: Adrien calls Marinette and asks her to fix a wing that he needs for a photo session. When I watched this for the first time, I thought he genuinely needed her help, but now I think he uses this as an excuse to see her (this isn’t his job to find somebody to fix the wing). Ladybug and Chat Noir almost give the villain their Miraculouses in exchange for sweets.
Dearest Family: Where did Gabriel get the amulet from? I guess my Disney+ has the wrong order of the episodes again. Tikki has an eating disorder. We can see a glimpse of her true form. Gabriel’s talking about destroying the old world and creating a new one, but I don’t think he’s the best source of information about how the wish works.
Crocoduel: Congratulations, Gabriel, Jagged Stone who abandoned his children for years is a better father than you. Chat Noir flirts with every new girl in the team.
Glaciator 2: Ladybug is angry at Chat Noir for his constant declarations of love and throws him in the garbage. Adrien decides to change. He’s sad and cries in the park. Marinette unsuccessfully tries to cheer him up. Gabriel almost sends an Akuma to Adrien, but when he notices it’s his son he stops the Akuma. Gabriel tries to talk to Adrien, but their conversation isn’t going anywhere. Chat Noir is destroying the billboards. How much cheese has he had to take with him? He doesn’t have any bag with him, does he have to go to a shop on every street? I love these Marichat scenes. I want to see Adrien being as sarcastic as Chat Noir here.
Hack-San: Marinette is in a hurry, but she should think about telling Chat Noir she’s leaving Paris. Chat Noir again feels that Ladybug doesn’t trust him. Sincere Ladynoir conversation.
Gabriel Agreste: Adrien brings ill Nathalie a meal and tries to talk to her about his problems. Adrien is compared to an imprisoned princess and Marinette—to a knight. Does Félix suspect that the wedding ring is Adrien’s Amok and try to protect him? Kagami and Félix don’t seem to like each other. Or this is how Félix reacts when he likes somebody. I thought Gabriel tried to kill Félix, but the Akuma goes to the fake wedding ring. OK, so this episode should be before Dearest Family. Félix is now sure that Gabriel created Senti-Gabriel and that he has the Peacock Miraculous.
Ephemeral: Gabriel’s touching his wedding ring when he’s telling Adrien to replace him at the conference. Su-Han tells Ladybug that she should know Chat Noir’s true identity. Marinette cannot believe that Chat Noir is really Adrien. It’s too early for the true reveal: Marinette needs to appreciate Chat Noir too. Marichat needs to happen. Again, neither the reveal nor Adrienette aren’t really problems, it’s the relationship between Adrien and Gabriel: Adrien loves him, but Gabriel is ready to hurt him to achieve his goal. Gabriel’s touching his wedding ring when he’s forcing Adrien to be Akumatised. More: The Reveal & Adrinette. OK, so the Kwamis confirm that the wish destroys the world and recreates it.
Psycomedian: The girls say there’s no love without friendship. Adrien again makes googly eyes at Marinette. Marinette, don’t listen to this clown. This time it’s Ladybug who falls victim to the villain and Chat Noir has to help her.
Qilin: —
Kuro Neko: Adrien feels left out by Ladybug. He gives up his ring and then changes his whole personality to be the Cat she wants him to be. But it’s not the Cat she needs. Plagg says Adrien can be serious around his father and Nathalie, so it’s sad that Ladybug wants him to be like that too. Ladybug says she knows Chat Noir very well while mistaking him for the Sentimonster. Plagg says Adrien is both Adrien and Chat Noir.
Penalteam: Adrien can’t play football.
Risk: Adrien says he doesn’t want to be a model and tells Lila he doesn’t want to listen to her lies. Gabriel wants to send Adrien away. Adrienette moment. Adrien says that it’s like an invisible force stopped him from telling his father he didn’t want to be a model. Félix says he wants to save Adrien.
Strike Back: Ladybug mistakes Félix for Adrien. If she knew Chat Noir’s true identity, she wouldn’t make that mistake. Or if Chat Noir intervened. Félix quietly says that he’s sorry and he betrays the heroes, but in the context of season 5 I can see he isn’t totally evil and selfish. Chat Noir stands by Ladybug and comforts her.
