Bound: A Sounds of Someday story

Summary: Jensen and Y/N have a strained month after their engagement. Words: 1848 Warnings: Childbirth (non graphic), anxiety. Credits: I'm pretty sure @flamencodiva beta'd this ages ago when it was supposed to be more than this. A/N: This is part of the world of Sounds of Someday. I haven't written RPF in over a year now so this is definitely an ancient wip that I'm bringing back for my dear friend @jensengirl83's birthday. I tried to find the master list for the series buuuut it's legit gone and I'm pretty sure that I deleted it. But I've linked the prologue (haha fooled you guys. The series is still there, just the ML is gone) and everything should be crosslinked. ANYWAY - this was born out of a challenge that Brandy set forth quite some time ago. My song was 'Turn the Page' by Bob Seger. I'm pretty sure I captured it well. Love you B! A/N 2: There is an entire story to follow behind this but I'm elbow deep in the rewrite and I'm also sure that the story that follows will be a separate book. But to all the fans of this series, I love you and cannot thank you enough. You can read the original again and the rewrite will be done hopefully in the next 6ish months. 😘

Jensen laid in the bunk on the tour bus and stared at the wall. The only thing he could hear was the sound of the engine roaring and the tires on the road. Everyone else was asleep except for the driver, Cliff. He’d tried to fall asleep but the only thing he saw when he closed his eyes was his fiancee’s face the moment she realized what he was doing on that stage two months ago.

Jensen dropped down to one knee in front of Y/N and her hands flew to her mouth as she gasped in surprise. “What better place to continue our adventure than on the stage where it began. Y/N, will you make me the luckiest man on earth and be my wife?”

He smiled at the memory as it played in his head again, comforting him while he rode several hundred miles east from Omaha to their next show. With a sigh, he turned over again, facing the curtain that was drawn across his bunk. The soft glow of the ambient nightlights filtered through a crack in the curtain, illuminating the beige walls and light blue of the curtain and bed linens.

Jensen huffed as he swung his legs out of his bunk and padded to the common area. He sat in the corner of the black leather sofa and spread out from end to end, his feet resting against one end while his back was against the other. He leaned his head against the back of the sofa and pulled his phone out, opening the youtube app and hitting his favorites.

The video they recorded for Eric Church started playing softly, the strains of ‘Like a Wrecking Ball’ surrounding him as he watched their smiling faces filling his screen. A tear slipped down his cheek when the video switched to the one Gen had posted of the proposal. He fell asleep watching the two videos on repeat, like he had every night since he’d left her side.

Y/N sipped from the glass of wine that was perched on the edge of the bathtub. The bubbles had nearly gone and the water was barely warm but her eyelids were still refusing to get heavy. It wasn’t the same sitting in the house in Austin alone, it wasn’t the same sleeping alone. Jensen’s pillow smelled like him, but it was cold, too soft.

Sighing dejectedly, she drained her glass and then the tub, stepping out onto the plush rug and wrapping herself up in Jensen’s soft robe. She inhaled deeply, comforting herself with his scent.

She crawled into bed again and pulled up youtube on the smart tv. She navigated to her favorites playlist and hit play. The sound of Jensen’s voice filled the room, a video from one of his first concerts with Corey. She watched several videos before drifting off into an uneasy sleep.

“Jensen, man, what’s going on? You were a million miles away tonight,” Corey asked, his brows furrowed and his voice soft. They had just finished a show and Jensen had been sullen and quiet, his usual playful banter missing from their set.

"I have never been more ready for a tour to end. I like what we do, love what we do, but I don't know if I want to keep doing this." Jensen put his head in his hands and sighed deeply, willing the tears away.

Corey sat next to his friend and put his hand on his shoulder. “I get it, man. I do. With Alicia due any day now, I’m questioning this life, too. It’s hard enough being away from my wife but being away from my kid? That’s going to be a whole other ballgame.”

“We haven’t even set a date or really had time to just absorb being engaged, you know? She was with us that night and the next, then she went back home to Austin and I haven’t seen her in a month and we can barely video call and -” Jensen felt his breathing getting shallow and his chest tightening, signaling the start of an anxiety attack. It had been a few years since his last one and was shaping up to be a major one.

“Steve, bag!” Corey yelled across the room. Steve took one look at Jensen and ran across the room with one of the paper bags that were kept on hand for the number of people dealing with anxiety on the tour.

Corey handed Jensen the opened bag and walked him through breathing and grounding exercises, calming him down and getting him to refocus on the room around him. He handed Jensen a bottle of water and made sure he was okay before continuing their conversation.

“Look, Jay, it’s not gonna be easy, man. But we’ve only got a few more dates on this tour and then we’re off for months. You’ll be able to hang with us and your godchild, whatever that may be. You’ll plan the wedding, hell maybe even have the wedding. And it’ll all feel like a bad memory,” Corey offered half-heartedly.

“Yeah,” Jensen nodded, swallowing hard. “Distant memory.”

The days passed in a hurry. The countdown progressed down to hours, just over 48 now. Two more days and Y/N would be back at this airport picking up her fiance’. But now, she had business to tend to.

It was nearly midnight when Y/N made it to the door of the apartment her best friends owned. She was staying with Alicia until either the baby was born or Corey got back from tour. Alicia insisted that she was fine but Y/N wouldn’t take no for an answer; it was her way of paying them back for everything they’d done for her since they’d met.

“Alicia!” Y/N called as she walked inside, taking her keys out of the door and slipping them in her pocket. Alicia didn’t answer, but Y/N heard her cry out in pain. She rushed towards the bedroom, the direction the sound came from, and found Alicia doubled over, holding onto the door frame of the en suite and clutching her stomach. “Lee?!”

“Y/N. Thank god you’re here. I think I’m going into labor.” A splashing sound drew their attention towards the ground, a stream of clear liquid puddling on the floor at Alicia’s feet.

“Pretty sure your water just broke, hon. Get your shoes, I’ll grab your bag and we’ll call the hospital on the way down to the street,” Y/N instructed, already heading to the closet for the prepared bags. As soon as she grabbed them, she was phoning the hospital and getting the information on the fastest way there and what she needed to do for Alicia in the meantime.

“Y/N, Corey,” Alicia panted as she waddled to the elevator.

“Don’t worry, hon. I’ll handle everything else. You just focus on keeping that baby where it is until we get to the hospital.” Y/N said a silent prayer to whomever was listening that they’d make it in time and that she wouldn’t have to deliver a baby in the backseat of a cab.

Cliff had stopped at an all-night diner for everyone to get off the bus, stretch their legs, and have dinner before continuing on the next leg of the journey. There was still time before the next show, the last show of the tour, so he figured a break from the road was needed.

The group was situated at a long table, Corey at one end and Cliff at the other, quietly talking and enjoying their break. Corey’s phone rang and he looked at Jensen after checking the id. “It’s after midnight and it’s Y/N.”

“Her flight landed like two hours ago,” Jensen added, worry building in his gut.

“Y/N, what’s going -” Corey was cut off by Y/N talking very, very quickly and then handing off the phone. “Alicia, baby, are you okay? How far apart are they? How long until you get there? Okay baby, one of you call me when you can. I love you.” Corey hung up the phone and looked at the table. “Alicia is in labor. Y/N is with her. They’re almost to the hospital.”

The table was stunned into silence before a cacophony of reassurances spewed forth from everyone, turning the heads of the other diners, though no one seemed to care. They finished their meal quickly and headed to the bus, ready to get this final show on the road so Corey could get home to meet his kid.

Seven hours later, Alicia was holding a beautiful baby boy. She was exhausted but she was overjoyed, basking in the bliss of new motherhood. Y/N watched everything with a soft smile and tears in her eyes, happy for her best friends and already deeply in love with her godson.

Corey was video chatting with Alicia and the baby, assuring them that he’d be here tomorrow. That meant that Jensen would be here tomorrow as well. Y/N sighed in relief and shut her eyes, knowing that it would feel faster if she got some rest.

The performers on stage for their final date of the tour were nearly vibrating with anticipation, counting the seconds until they could run back to the tour bus and hop on their flight to New York. The crowd was enjoying every second and the energy in the arena was palpable.

Corey thanked everyone and bid them a good night, restraining himself from running off the stage. Post show drinks were skipped as everyone packed up as fast as they could, the amplifiers still ringing in their ears, and headed to the airport.

The plane took off from South Carolina and landed in New York a few hours later. Corey and Jensen were scanning the crowd as soon as it came into view, chuckling when they spotted Y/N holding a sign that said ‘aging, washed up rock stars’ in bold black letters.

She dropped the sign as soon as she saw Jensen rounding the corner of the walkway and ran to him, jumping in his arms with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

“I missed you so much, sweetheart,” Jensen whispered as he twirled her around.

“Missed you more,” she replied as she buried her face into his neck.

“What’s this about you picking up aging, washed up rock stars?” Corey jested from behind them.

She lifted her head enough to send him a glare. He tossed his head back laughing loudly, amused by the antics of his best friends.

“Can we wrap this up, please? I got a kid to meet,” he quipped, smirking at the couple.

Jensen shifted Y/N onto his shoulder in a fireman’s carry as she shrieked and the three of them headed to the baggage claim.

Jensen took the wheel and drove straight to the hospital, dropping Corey off to go be with his son and wife. “Where to, sweetheart?” he asked when they pulled away.

“Anywhere, baby. As long as I’m with you.”

I try to write in sequence since that generally makes it easier for me to keep a flow going while writing. Also make sit easier when coming back to a wip between breaks. Any time I've jumped around it has just cause more too much trouble...

🎵Do you make playlists for your fics?

I've made some playlists recently! I do listen to a lot of music while writing so once I started it wasn't actually that hard to make them...

🟥How long do you spend in edits?

That can vary wildly and is a little hard to measure. I tend to go back and forth as I write and edit as I go, with then editing again when a chapter is written. There's also editing phase with my very helpful betas. So it can take...a while

👶Fankids: How you do you feel about them? Would your OTP have kids?

I think ML is in an interesting spot since there's generally a fandom wide acceptance of the "Emma, Louis and Hugo" trio. I don't mind kids in fics, but they're not why I look for fics. I have no interest in "next gen" fics because at that point its OCs. I want my blorbos. If the blorbos have kids then that can be fun, but I don't really care for the kids being the main characters. It's just not my thing.

So, what’s this Hope Squad AU you talk about?

It's a next-gen multi-crossover maribat fanfiction by my friend @thefcguy on their side blog @thehopesquadau

It's a story about Marinette and Damian/Bruce's (don't remember which one) son Harry as he and his group of five hunts down and collects the Miraculous before an organization bent on using the miraculous wish can get their hands on them.

The group of five consists of people with powers of their own without Miraculous. Harry relies on advanced technology, while one is a demi-god, one is a fairy, and two are hybrids with cosmic powers.

The group they're up against is a scientist group known as Green Light Labs. They were originally a group looking to save humanity, but as time went on, the group's goal slowly became corrupted into a more unhinged version of what it was. Causing them to do human experimentation and other villain practices.

Marinette sealed the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous away so the wish could never be used and the key to getting them is by using the other Miraculous to unlock where they're being held.

The story is a multi-crossover story with DC Comics, Miraculous Ladybug, and Clarence. Plus, references to other shows such as Scooby-Doo and Gravity falls.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

The current number is 51 and honestly? it still blows my mind.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

151,239, made up almost entirely of one shots lol.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

There's a lot of them but in recent years, it's mainly been miraculous ladybug, my hero academia, and the occasional percy jackson.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I'm really good at responding right after I publish a fic. It's afterwards that I sometimes forget to respond, or simply don't have enough time to respond. I always appreciate every comment I get though!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Angstiest ending huh? A bunch of my fics are angsty but the one that I think ends in the most angst would have to be dance with the devil, drink with the demons, without it being outright whump lol.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Happy? Happy. Um....I'm gonna say party like it's your heroes' birthday just because there's a party and it's sweet and yeah lmao. It also has the wholesome family/friend vibes that keep me from forever being confused about the correct fluff to angst ratio.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've been extremely lucky and have been able to avoid it for the most part. That's not to say I've gotten no hate ever, but it was minimal enough that I pretend it doesn't exist. Fervently hoping it stays that way!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No. Maybe. No. The idea has crossed my mind but I haven't been able to write it as of yet. Maybe I never will. Who's to say really?

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Kind of? I did it exactly once. But not in the traditional way, it was more of a, "take the world-building idea of percy jackson and put it into a fairy tail quest" so I'm not sure if it actually counts.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so. Or at least I hope I haven't!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I was asked once, many moons ago, but then they never got back to me, so I assume they dropped the idea.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No? Unless we're counting those fic fights/telephone things where one person starts and another takes over. There was also this one time, I was writing a fic with a few others but we never managed to finish, so I don't really count that one.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

All time? And I'm only supposed to pick one?? Next time, give me a tough question, will ya? Wow uh, I don't know if it's my favourite ship, perse, but it is the ship I've shipped the longest + one I've actually written for, so I'm gonna go with lovesquare. *shrugs* probably typical of me, but it was the only ship to get inside my head so badly that I've written over a dozen fics for them, instead of more gen stuff, which is my usual go-to otherwise.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Well, if we look at my gigantic list of unpublished fics, there's probably plenty of WIPs to choose from there. As for published, well I don't want to say I never will but yeah Forsake the Divine (If You Can) seems to be a pretty solid choice, if only because there are only 1 chapter and a half left to go and it's all outlined too, but I've kind of fallen out of the fandom (it's very dead) so idk if I'll ever manage to put it together.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization is definitely a strong suit. And judging purely from my comment section, I feel okay assuming that I'm pretty good at making the emotional beats land too.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Description definitely. It's been pointed out to me more than once that I'm so focused inside the characters' heads that I forget to interact more with the world around them. Nature wants to be incorporated and I'm working on that.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I hate it. It feels so strange to me to have a few words in a different language and then abruptly switch back to English. The only thing that I feel I have to do in another language though, is honorifics. Whether it be -san, -kun, or Madame, I think I get super extra about it. I once delved into such a rabbit hole trying to figure out what honorific even a side character uses, just for a throwaway dialogue!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Ooh, officially? Fairy Tail. Unofficially, hidden in the depths of my laptop? Yeah, it was Percy Jackson. My childhood favourite that still haunts my thoughts to this day.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Ironically? This is the second time I've been asked that today and the choice is still just as difficult. Or maybe it's that my actual favourites are still unfinished and hence unpublished. For now, I'm going to say Enduring, it's the fic that was most different genre-wise from what I usually write, and I'm very proud of how it turned out. If I ever manage to finish it though, my favourite will probably be a life unlived or maybe I'm just doomed to never have a favourite, because there will always be something new I'm looking forward to reading (meaning I have to write it to be able to see it). Wait how do you only have 74 subs on AO3 I'd expect you to have at the very least 500

I'm semi new to this whole thing is that how that site works?????

User subscriptions are people who decided they liked me enough that they want to receive an email notification every time I post. I have nearly 600 work subscriptions, which are people who liked one of my stories enough that they want to be receive an email every time that specific story updates. The separation of those two things definitely means that people don't tend to subscribe to users as much as they might on another platform.

Before I say this next bit, I want to preface it by saying that 1) I write at bonkers speeds and therefore I really don't recommend anyone judge themselves off of me and 2) I'm not bent out of shape by any of my stats; I don't even see my stats unless I go out of my way to do so and I'm a lot happier that way.

When talking about what gets popular in the ML fandom, you gotta remember that realistically, the things that get the most popular are either love square or salt. I write my fair share of love square, don't get me wrong, but I don't write primarily love square - give or take half my fics are gen, and what's not gen is often rarepair. And I refuse to write salt.

(I don't generally recommend going into the Miraculous Ladybug tag, filtering out love square, and sorting by kudos, but doing so definitely illustrates a point: salt sells. Usually salt via Lukanette or Maribat.)

Because of that, I've had to come to terms with the fact that my own popularity is always going to be hindered by the fact that I don't write primarily love square. I periodically get the thought of "if I just wrote love square exclusively for a few months, I would boost my popularity so much," and I have to remind myself of why that's a dumb idea every single time.

And this is coming as someone who posts/updates frequently and, as far as I can tell, has a pretty decent writing style and a good grasp of character. I have privileges that others don't.

I only say all of this now because I think people tend to place this expectation that someone like me - who does post frequently, who does have an appealing style, and who has the benefit of every single type of fic you might think of - will get better stats than I do. And the truth is that non-love square fics in the ML fandom just don't get enough attention for that, and there's not a lot of open discussion about how non-love square fic writers are left behind. In the past, when I've brought this up, I've often been left with defensiveness from love square fic writers who think I'm blaming them, but more than anything I think we just need make it known.

It is not about quality or the so-called "AO3 algorithm." The fandom is just Like This. And while there is a lot to be said about how fandom interaction culture has evolved and how gift culture works and even how this suggests trends of amatonormativity in the fandom, I have to say that the only thing that worked for me and kept me posting is making peace with it. I will never be as popular as I would be if I wrote exclusively love square - but I have a small number of people who love seeing what I give next, and every new fic with a new pairing brings someone who was hunting down content for that pairing.

And that's plenty enough to make me happy. (Especially if I don't see how my hits to kudos ratio is looking.)

If it helps, though, I'm up to 78 subscribers now.

* 𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐘𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐄𝐃 : where can we find info on your marauders and next gen side groups?

by joining nox and following the discord links to each rp from there ! lumos ( the marauders verse ) had a blog, but both of them being run from their discord groups just made more sense since i don’t run them on my own like i do nox - it’s easier for the respective councils to keep on top of things and really the only downside has been not having a traditional blogroll, but that’s fine. neither are required of you by being in nox, but to join & stay within them, you have to be a member - if you leave the main group, you forfeit the others too.

both are fully influenced by the existing nox timeline, lumos probably moreso. our marauders verse takes place in 1994. it’s three years to the end of the war & the conflict between the death eaters and the order is escalating everyday. it’s really a very quintessential group for the era but for the change in the time period ( done so that it could feel like an actual prequel to nox, even if it’s au in all its own ways ) and the fact that everyone has been very supportive of my degenerate peter pettigrew thoughts and feelings, to date.

the next gen verse is, of course, newer and less strongly established, but it’s also the one most au from the universe, since it’s specifically built from nox canon and diverts from the end of our s1 plot. in aurora, the prophecy that drove our first season was never spoken and the light side triumphed over bellatrix lestrange early on, during our second department of mysteries battle. every change from here on out was made to ensure that no one gets too comfortable with our next gen verse existing, in the first place - i don’t want aurora to take away from the fact that the nox plot is still ongoing, and characters that have kids over there may still die, here. just to rapidfire rattle off some changes, over there : kingsley shacklebolt & the diggory sibling died in our season 1 finale, there was never a resurrection ( no regulus, harry or voldemort ), the de’s were rounded up and sent to azkaban with many including bellatrix later executed, anton karkaroff never became minister, sybill trelawney still died ( but of a heart attack, not murder ), the chudley cannons won the quidditch cup instead of the holyhead harpies, etc, etc.

it’s now 2049, and rather than an rp dealing with the fallout of a war that never came, in aurora, the plot is a murder mystery with inspiration taken from one of us is lying by karen mcmanus, if we were villains by ml rio and twin peaks - willa longbottom, eldest daughter of neville & his oc wife, has been found dead beneath a dark mark and anyone could have done it. there are several known connections ( all with possible motives ) and five that can only come out through rp, all of which will build a clearer picture of who willa was and why she was murdered. i generally hate next gen verses, so it’s already been so fun to build one where no canon kids exist and no pre-conceived ideas of how those kids act do, either - it’s all STEEPED in nox canon, between the timeline we’ve worked on to flesh out the last twenty odd years and the fact i get to play cordelia malfoy, third born of draco malfoy & ginny weasley.

so there u go ! that’s what i can say about both, and there’s still way more i couldn’t touch on - most especially in regards to how big and sexy everyone’s brains have been in their casting and characterisation of marauders era characters and how absolutely bonkers the aurora world is, already - but you’ll have to join us to get in on all that !
