hi nina, do you remember if there was ever a specific timeline given for emilie/colt’s deaths? i’m trying to figure out… where on earth everything precanon goes

I believe the only (approximate) timeline we were given for Emilie’s passing was in the Christmas special, when it was mentioned it was the first Christmas Adrien spent without his mum. Which places her disappearance anywhere from like, December 26th of the previous year to early September when the series starts! So not the clearest indication if you want to be super precise.

It is implied in Felix (the episode, not the bird boy) that Colt died shortly after Emilie, and that the grief from losing her is the reason Gabriel did not let Adrien attend the funeral. Later in Multiplication (S5 E2) I believe, Ladybug reads from Felix’s (the bird boy, not the episode) Wikipedia article that his father died "last year". Which is also pretty vague.

If anyone has brushed up on their lore recently, feel free to add to this/correct me!

Why did Duusu say “that”?, Multiplication spoiler.

Near the end of “Multiplication”, we see Duusu appear in front of Felix, confused, after all, Duusu was not aware of what was happening when Gabriel renounced him back in “Strike Back”, all he saw was two people talking, so it makes sense he was confused by seeing another person wear his miraculous. But the thing that seems to be confusing people is Duusu suddenly saying Nathalie’s name to Felix, after all, aren't kwamis supposed to not say their past holders names?

Now, from what we have seen so far, all the kamis have the spell which prevent them from talking about their holders identities to others, but there is an exception. If the person in front of them already knows the identity of their past holder then the kwamis are fully capable of talking about them, but despite not knowing their true identities the kwamis can still talk about their holders through another name, like how Tikki is still able to call Marinette Ladybug in front of others

Duusu was not the only kwami who we saw talk about their past holder, Niiri the eagle kwami in the New york special, talked about his past holder, “Gilbert” ( Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette ). The reason he said his past holders name to Gabriel was because of the same situation that Duusu was in, Niiri likely still had the same spell on him to prevent him from talking about his past holder, but Gabriel already knew who the past holder of the eagle miraculous was thanks to his research through the history files

So yeah, given Felix pieced together the fact that Gabriel was Shadowmoth, it would not have taken much for him to realize that Nathalie was Mayura. Duusu told Felix Nathalie's name because he could, because Felix already knew Mayura’s identity. 

However, the other kwamis who are currently in possession of Gabriel, can not tell him who Ladybug really is because 1. the spell is still in effect and 2. Gabriel still does not know who Ladybug is so the kwamis cant give him an answer no matter what he demands of them, just owning their miraculous does not give Gabriel automatic access to this information.

Multiplication: aka “Why Alya, why...”

The episode itself wasn’t bad to be honest. I even noticed some good reactions from characters. But there is something that I think was handled wrong. 

Marinette admitting that she doesn’t know Adrien enough was good. It was a step in the good direction, because it’s totally true. She still puts him on a pedestal and doesn’t know him personally well enough to say she really loves him or know him.  It’s a very on point admission, because aside from being true it would give, even if way too late (Season 5 and not being even close friends is too late), the bases for her to start really getting to know him from scratch this season. With new eyes, willing to look really through Adrien’s qualities, flaws and wishes. To see and embrace also the Chat Noir side of him that he tends to keep hidden as civilian. To encourage him to share it with her.

Alya, however, sends the most wrong message right after. I used to like Alya a lot, because she was one of the characters who had very good points to share. Because she was so tenacious and classy her own way like “yeah girl!” and hyper but also the one who had a good grasp of the ground. But as she too lost the spark while going on with the series, in this episode she probably gets the most off, for various reasons. Saying Marinette and Adrien know each other well because they dealt with a lot together? When that happened? She mentioned the rare moments they actually got to interact as normal people and share more than a couple of lines together as civilians; the two playing videogames, him wearing her crations and going to the cinema but... it’s normal things the most common of friends do? Something we didn’t even see enough of in the series? Yes, they are a start, they are probably the only “real interactions” they had in a sea of scarse moments and teasing... but that can’t be considered the whole deal. Many more moments would be needed of that between the two. 

And many more dialogues and actual talking on a personal base.

Getting to know a person means staying in close contact to them, be part of their life often and talk about things, the most plain but also going through deeper ones. Talking about tastes, feelings...  Mixing the personal lives and trying to share part of them together. But they barely talked seriously in the series? In most of their interactions they never really TALKED to get to know each other. And we got only one moment where Adrien really shares something deeper and for Mari to ask him about it, and it was because they were pushed by an akuma effect, so something they wouldn’t do on normal basis. It was even implied that opening up a bit is a “risk”, how can it be considered that they have a stable and close relationship? That they know each other?  We barely see them talking through phone, Marinette still can’t talk to him properly most of the time after 4 seasons, they barely converse or show about knowing each other’s personal desires, tastes and throughts that are shared only to people in confidence. 

This is not knowing each other well, Marinette didn’t even have an idea about Adrien’s wishes for his career. Up until Mr.Pidgeon 72 and implied in following episodes she still blabbered about him being “perfect” and almost barely mentioning the real aspects she likes about him. The deeper ones. 

Alya’s examples would be fine if they actually talked during them in a more personal way... And if they had more of them.  But they didn’t.  So, no. Marinette was right. She doesn’t know Adrien as she thought and realising it would have been SO good for her, so to get the motivation to get to know him FOR REAL. Alya shouldn’t have told her otherwise... It feels like it was the author speaking through the character to try convincing fans they are wrong in saying the two didn’t have enough “getting to know each other” and that they actually had interactions to sustain their feelings when... that’s not really anything stable or concrete.  Every step ahead it feels like then three back are made. Or at least, this is the feeling I get every time there is an improvement or something made in the right away.

But they didn’t even retrieve the miraculous? This episode was a mess. Adrien is suddenly trying to kiss her? She’s trying to get rid of her creepy stalker attitude and he’s just trying to kiss her the next morning? And Adrien was just rid of his model duties. Just like that. Nathalie is back at the Agreste mansion but clearly has no intentions of helping Gabriel. Tomoe is working with Gabriel now.That asshole, had one smart woman who helped him, but she realised that he was a dick and left so he finds another smart woman to help him. He is one stupid man.

Anyways. Like I was saying, nothing happened this episode at all. Except the fact that Felix is hiding from the two and Duusu is finally meeting him and something really bad is going to follow. BUT LIKE. WHERE WAS THE MOUSE MIRACULOUS? Everyone was waiting for it and then suddenly poof. Not there.

Can we all just think about what this day has been for Adrien?

Imagine you wake up for the day, excited to have your bi-yearly scheduled lunch with your father, only to be told he has canceled on you once again and when you finally get the courage to speak your mind and talk to him, he interrupts you and tells you that you will be moving away from your home and beloved friends (with a person you hate) for an indefinite period of time. Imagine then, that you head to school, where you share a tender moment with someone who is definitely not just a friend and they give you the advice to talk to your father.

You then get home from school, where you are ambushed by your manipulative cousin, who is offering to trade places with you and help you out with your problem, only to discover he is scheming again. Before you can do anything about that, you have to go save the world with your superhero partner, who you've been feeling a little neglected by lately and for some reason, all those negative feelings seem to be manifesting right now during the fight. She then call in some reinforcements, and this new guy, that she keeps fawning over is giving you bad vibes (it's definitely not just jealously guys).

You save the day and head home, this time with the intent of actually confronting your father, only to be stopped by your superhero partner, who for some reason is looking for your civilian counterpart. She claims that she handed you a miraculous and you very quickly realize that your scheming and manipulative cousin, was scheming and manipulative.

You watch as your partner has a panic attack and do your best to calm her down and help her retain some miraculous. You hear her muffled cries through the door and when you go to check on her, she's gone. You find out that the villain you fight has got a hold of the miraculous and you go to find your partner.

You find her and manager to comfort her, all the while sharing a not-at-all platonic moment with her, and you prepare to fight the villain who has re-monikered himself and given himself new powers.

You see the rabbit miraculous and what looks like a future version of yourself show up and you realize that you will have to go through time in a time battle to reclaim the rabbit miraculous. You are given a rabbit miraculous to use and your very concept of space and time are altered as a result. After a lengthy, convoluted battle, you say goodbye to a good friend and decide to head to London to interrogate your aunt. The interrogation leading nowhere, you decide to head home only to be immediately called by your partner asking you to head to the wax museum and pose like a statue (which totally brings back some memories for you...). You finally get rid of that piece of paper in your bell and manage to capture the villain who you've been fighting for so long.

Except, the plan fails. The villain manages to get away with all of the Kwamis and now you have a weight on your conscious. You have just used against a person the power you vowed to use only for good. You are reminded of the significant power that you wield.

You once more arrive home and turn on the TV to try and distract yourself. Only to see that there's once more a problem that needs your help. You get there and see two people who have similar powers to you and your partner, but there's something wrong. Your partner asserts that they aren't akumatized, but you are wary. You learn that they are a version of you from a different universe, or at least a version of your power. You once more, are reminded the of ultimate destruction you have at your fingertips.

You come to understand that these doubles are in fact your partner and yourself from another universe. A universe, where the villain you are fighting is now your ally. Once assuring your friends are safe, you go after your double to fight them. When you meet to speak to them person to person and talk through your shared trauma. You learn that he too lost his precious mother, but he has no one to help him through it. You relive that loss together. You talk him down from making the wish that a part of you wants to make every single day. You begin to realize the version of you isn't bad, he's just hurting.

After ensuring the safety of other universes and giving a hopeful send of to your doubles, you finally, finally this time head home for the night.

Surveying around your room, you are reminded of the morning that feels like forever ago. You remember what your cousin said, what your good friend said. Emboldened by her words, you decide it's time to face your father. You go to his office where he's working and utter the words you never thought you would: I don't want to be a model anymore

Your father passively assents to this, and finally finally you are free.

You are filled with gratitude and this odd warmth that you don't spend too much time analyzing. You need to do something to thank the person who's advice got you what you so desperately wanted. You decide to call her up and thank her face-to-face.

You call her on the phone, which gets answered by her best friend, and then finally her and you give her your most sincere expression of gratitude, thanking her for everything she has done for you this past year.

As the warmth inside of your chest grows, you tell her you will do your best to pay it. You end the phone call with a smile on your face and a happy sigh.

Finally, with thoughts of your dear friend roaming around your mind, you fall asleep exhausted but happy.

This was all one day.
