Featuring lovey-dovey art & fic from 12 creators!

PRINTING

This zine was designed for letter paper, but I think it should print fine on A4 (I haven't tested it, sorry). If it helps, each individual page is 5.5 in x 8.5 in (140 mm x 216 mm).

We're going to print using the Booklet setting, which requires Adobe Acrobat or Foxit to use. Both programs can be downloaded for free. (I'm using Acrobat for this tutorial, but Foxit works the same way)

To print:

Download the zine file to your computer and open it in Acrobat/Foxit.

Open up the print menu using ctrl+P or by finding the printer icon near the top of the window. The print menu looks like this:

3. Select your printer from the "Printer" menu, then select the "Booklet" option under Page Sizing and Handling, as shown in the image above. You can also check the box near the top of the window to "Print in grayscale (black and white)" like I'm doing, or leave it unchecked to print in color.

4. Select the "Print" button to print.

BINDING

Honestly, you can bind however you want! I chose something fancy this time (because I'm trying to show off for photos), but normally I go for something simpler. Here are some methods I've used to bind zines/booklets before:

Three-hole ribbon binding (this is the method I used here)

Stapling

Pamphlet binding/saddle stitching

Methods I haven't tried but would probably work fine:

Another three-hole ribbon binding method + ring binding

Perfect binding

Machine sewing

Regardless of which method you use, I always recommend pre-folding all the pages before doing any binding. I usually try to fold like 1-3 sheets at a time--enough pages that it doesn't take forever to fold all of them, but not too many pages because I want to ensure each sheet gets creased really well.

Watch out for page order, by the way, because these pages aren't numbered!!

Depending on how you've bound it, it should come out looking something like this. Isn't it so cute??

Fanzine Friday #13: Lost Kisses (2000s) by Brian John Mitchell

Lost Kisses is a very tiny zine, coming in at only 57 mm, or 2.25 inches (sorry, no banana this time). Mitchell describes them as "50% lad lit & 50% Charlie Brown." The first ten are told with stick figures, while from 11 onward they are fuller drawings.

Things Said Once - Esperanza Collado

Performance y conversación posterior

Lectura coreografiada que involucra el uso de libros, rollos de películas, plantas, diapositivas de 35 milímetros y un proyector de películas de 16 mm. El texto representa una oda al cine como experiencia e incorpora varias citas de pensadores y cineastas a partir de la investigación de la propia Collado sobre formas de paracinema. Según la autora “Things Said Once es una declaración de arte y un elogio para el cine en reconocimiento a su historia y nuestra responsabilidad en el presente”. Escrito como un poema, el texto se construye en torno a una comprensión del cine como experiencia en sus dimensiones espacial, temporal y comunitaria. A nivel formal se presenta como una performance, una lectura en un entorno elaborado que incluye gestos, acciones corporales y objetos a través de los cuales se revela el propio texto.

Esta performance, en diferentes versiones, se ha representado y ha ido evolucionando desde 2015 en espacios de arte como Taipei Contemporary Art Centre (Taiwán), Lajevardi Foundation de Teherán (Irán), Centro Cultural de España en Montevideo (Uruguay), Centro de Cultura Montehermoso (Vitoria), la Cinematek de Bruselas (Bélgica), Galeria Microscope de Nueva York o el CCCB de Barcelona y en festivales como Oberhausen (Alemania), Bristol Experimental and Expanded Film (Gran Bretaña) o Punto de Vista (Pamplona).

El 9 de febrero del 2014, Esperanza Collado inauguró la primera edición de El Cine Rev[b]elado con la performance Ensayos de la evaporación (We only guarantee the dinosaurs) 10 años después regresa a este ciclo, cerrándolo en una suerte de bucle, y compartiendo una nueva performance que continua su práctica e investigación dentro del cine-expandido y de quienes forman parte de ello.

Ahora sí, no sé cuándo empezó este proyecto, en primavera o en invierno, las letras trajeron al fanzine o el fanzine llamó a la tipografía, y los pattern? The letters were cutted in linoleum between winter 2019 and fall 2021. Each letter is influenced by the facts of its moment and the diversity of its occurrence. They were called by the typography craft to be organized into a font family. Because of this, these uppercases were digitized during the spring of 2022, and I've decided to include a pattern set in the lowercase slots. Hi! I'm organizing a very casual, low-stress MAMIYA fanzine. The theme is Valentine's Day/White Day! The final zine will be available to download digitally for free and formatted so you can print it at home.

Anyone can join! The signup form will remain open until the submission due date, which is March 7th. The zine is set to be published on March 14th (White Day).

Any ship goes (or no ship!). 

No NSFW content is allowed.

Any form of media can be submitted: art, fic, poetry, photography, love letters, multimedia, recipes, sheet music, etc.

Submit whatever you're comfortable with--as much as you want or as little as you want!

The zine will be formatted for printing on letter paper. Each page is 8.5 inch x 5.5 inch (216 mm x 140 mm) and a two-page spread is 11 inch x 8.5 inch (280 mm x 216 mm). Template for artists here.
