1. Obviously, Ducky Shincracker is gonna be on here. It's my go to comfort read and I love it more and more with every re-read.

2. Summer of whump, chapter 3 - Bedside vigil. Have I told you how much I love this one? I don't know if I have, and shame on me for being a bad friend! This one is everything Em, there's pain and worry and sadness and comfort and Sam and Bucky and I swear I forgot to breathe as I was reading it.

3. Roommates, because duh! I love this one, it always makes me giggle, and it holds an extra special place in my heart because I read it just as I was getting to know you and I'm so happy I did.

4. Comfortember, chapter 10 - holding hands. I know I give you some shit for working whump into what is SUPPOSED TO BE COMFORT ONLY, but you do it so beautifully I'm not even mad, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

5. Comfortember, chapter 8 - afraid to ask for help/breakdown. This one got to me, it got to me bad, and I loved it. I didn't so much love the feelings it recalled maybe, but I loved Sam coming and I loved that it reminded me once again that I'm lucky enough to have a Sam in my life too.

spoiler warning for tar (2022), and tbh this is very ranty and gets very rambly

okay, so firstly, i will say that everyone in the film did give good performances, i get the cate blanchett hype, i'll give it that and the cinematography was nice

but like everything else? it just felt so shallow and full of itself. like okay wow white lesbians can fully assimilate into white male dominant spaces and be just as bad as them!! like okay, most poc already know this, this is a conversation that has been dabbled into for a while. and like fine, this is a film by a white person for white people, but even taking that into account, it still just feels like a film that's just talking without really saying anything. and i have things that i didn't really like or make sense to me like why is a supposed to be an up-and-coming conductor working as a personal assistant? why is the fact that whether or not she took advantage of her former pupil so ambiguous? and i'm sure there are others that i can't think of at the moment.

and like i can forgive everything i've said so far, but really it's the last ten minutes that just... but okay wow the fact that this is a film by a white person for white people really made itself known 💀 and like sure, i am a filipino who lives in the philippines, of course, i can like spot things others won't and be super nitpicky, but the portrayal and the implications the film makes of my country just makes me want to put todd field into a guillotine! like she has a big fall from grace in the western classical musical scene, at the bottom of the barrel is conducting a video game score in the philippines. like, firstly, is the whole it being meant to be the philippines but really filmed in thailand + that whole apocalypse now line meant to be some weird meta thing?? because it doesn't work either way. anyway, does todd field know that we have twitter in the philippines? does he not think in a nation that is one of the most consistently recorded as being very much Online, no one in the classical music sphere here would have heard of lydia tar? that no one would have made a post calling her and the event organizers out? i mean obviously not, based on how he portrays filipinos as being the ones stupid or not-in-the-know enough to give lydia a job. and like seeing it as almost an honor for them to have her, a white lady there, giving her flowers and a gift basket (idk how to word this it's just very colonial mentality). okay, there's two places the event she was hired to do would be happening at, manila and cebu, and since they went to pagsanjan (where apocalypse now was filmed) that can only mean that she's meant to be in manila. and so that just gets to me even more, because i live in manila, i have been to the nerd conventions, i have aunts with connections to the theater, one of them is literally a production manager in events!! and i say this because we see lydia in what is definitely a budget hotel room, then we see her at some random alleyway getting into a sketchy building while it's pouring rain, and then she's in a meeting in a very poorly lit room, and the scene where she's working in a karinderya. and like, the event she's been hired to do, which i later found out is kind of a big thing in japan (and that just adds to what i'm gonna say), would have been organized by people with money. and keeping the whole "it's an honor to have her" thing in mind, in real life, she would have been put up in a much nicer hotel room (i'm by no means rich, and i've stayed at much nicer rooms), they would have most likely arranged for someone to drive her to the meeting and the driver would most likely have an umbrella and would have held it as she walked to the door of an average office building most likely in a nice part of metro manila, then she would have gone to work in a starbucks. but no ofc this doesn't happen in the philippines it's a third world country, they don't know shit, and are definitely not known for their hospitality..... then there is ofc the massage parlor scene 💀 just really fucking disgusting all around. while it was a long time ago, i did write a paper on sex tourism in my country like i know this is a real thing that happens, but at this point, it has been way too many strikes for me. from the set-up, like ofc the man at reception thought she meant *that* (again, she would have been put up at a nicer hotel that probably would have had an in-house spa, also why did he have her prescription?? also we don't have those orange bottles here), and to like the scene itself?? like yes, a white person being asked to pick a sex worker in a line-up, excuse me, fishbowl (wow so oriental!!) in a third world country is a very appropriate parallel for the process of auditioning orchestra members 🙃

Okay you are someone I generally expect to have a reasonable opinion on Annabeth instead of extreme and to actually use book canon instead of fanon for your answers—I keep seeing people say that she acts like she’s discriminated against for being blonde, etc., but from what I remember it always seemed to me like she was more complaining about being subject to minor but annoying stereotypes and not equating it to discrimination.

Am I misremembering, or are people blowing a few comments out of proportion?

Annabeth gasped. The woman was breathtakingly beautiful and strangely familiar. Her face was hard to describe. Her features seemed to shift from those of one glamorous movie star to another. Her eyes sparkled playfully—sometimes green or blue or amber. Her hair changed from long, straight blond to dark chocolatey curls. Annabeth was instantly jealous. She’d always wished she had dark hair. She felt like nobody took her seriously as a blonde. She had to work twice as hard to get recognition as a strategist, an architect, a senior counselor—anything that had to do with brains. Mark Of Athena (pg 163)

Annabeth... has a weird moment here. It should be noted that dumb blonde is a stereotype, it does exist, it’s not a joke and it does cause problems for some people, it’s not everywhere but it is a thing... but it doesn’t make sense for Annabeth to have that as an issue. Even though Rick retconned it, the Athena cabin in PJO was ALL BLONDE, and the Apollo cabin (knowledge) is also a lot of blondes. In fact, camp has a lot of blondes.

It just... feels weird for that to be what she felt she had to work harder for? She was a child when she got to camp, so of course she wouldn’t have been taken seriously. It’s not about her being blonde? She was young when she started as a counselor (we know she was counselor at 12, but for how many years before that?). Idk, it feels like Rick trying to base it off of appearance when... that doesn’t really fit their situation at all.

Now if Annabeth had talked about how being a woman made things harder? Well sexism is very much a thing. It’s a very common thing. Women DO have to work twice as hard often to be respected, and WOC even harder.

But the thing is, she doesn’t say any of this outloud alkdjsa, she was griping mentally while jealous of Aphrodite (The Goddess of BEAUTY). So yeah she’s not... she’s not equating blonde hair to other things, she just is complaining mentally about a struggle she had being blonde. I do think it’s out of character, I don’t think her being blonde mattered at all... but it also was not discrimination?

So yeah, a lot of people blow it out of proportion.

i haven't really discussed it beyond like a vague text post on my blog bc i have nothing to add to the discussion that hasn't already been said by the dash lol and i don't find it productive to just. add to the echo chamber. the whole situation puts a bad taste in my mouth and i just feel awful for taehyun and the tubatus because even though i'm sure they cognitively know that taehyun's done nothing wrong and that the majority of fans support them, emotionally this is super stressful and nobody likes seeing their name dragged through the mud for !! doing a totally normal thing !! i know everyone is like 'taehyun come home' / 'come back we miss you' and i miss him too but personally i think he should stay off the internet for a bit for his own peace of mind actually.

So when it comes to Sweden, the part of the country where Midsummer is taken most seriously is actually where I live (my town has the world's biggest May pole😎) and its very traditional! I'll try to add a video from my village's celebration this year so you can see and hear!

The frog dance is one we mostly do when the kids raise their pole and since I'm in traditional dress I don't participate (it'd be very expensive if i broke something), but it is very much a thing and it's one of those things that become more important the older you get i think!

unpopular opinion: i think jangkku having no chemistry is better than them having the same bond as soobin and arin because if they did have that, they'd have massive, unnecessary hate.

That's actually a pretty fair point.

In my personal opinion, chemistry out of this world or no chemistry at all, they're still going to get hate. And personally, that kinda bond doesn't seem to fit well with their personalities which is probably why they're, even 7 months in, still a bit awkward but sort of comfy with working together for like 1.5-2 hours

It is a little saddening that people like you think that way because of how they get treated by people like this now and would rather have them be a little less entertaining just to save them from the hate that could've been even bigger if they showed remote closeness that people actively seek to try proving to others that they're bffs
