Wanda & Loki | Character Arc Parallels
I've seen people's compare Wanda and Loki a lot lately, and... Actually yeah they're basically the same arc but changing the order a little.
Rough childhood / Origin Story
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, I couldn't find a gif of lil' Wanda being... Scarred for life, but you get my point, both had a really sad beginning. Wanda had an arguably happy childhood despite growing up in a war zone, that is until whatever warlord threw a missile in a civil area.
Despite Loki having no memory of his sad origin, his is debatably worse, since it's only thanks to Odin that he did not perish due to abandonment. And in the Asgardian household he was loved, sure, but he grew up in the shadow of the real heir to the throne.
Gone Apeshit because of grief
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here I include Pietro, because it's because of their shared trauma both submit to the experiments that gave them their powers to fuck shit up, resulting in the death of a lot of people.
For Loki, it took him a lot more to become a hero, given he was a villain for his first two appearances (Thor 2011 and The Avengers 2012) he is absolutely almost destroying Jotunheim and killing about a 100 people under Thanos' command.
Wanda then goes back and forth between villain, hero, fugitive and full on villain, while Loki went from hero, to villain, to anti-hero to full on hero.
Bonus points because both use mind stone derived abilities (the scepter and Wanda's power) to create chaos by infuriating poor Hulk.
Hit rock bottom when exposed to a very powerful but mind controlling item
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've mentioned this before, it was confirmed the mind stone had brainwashed Loki by feeding himself resentments exponentially, kinda like the Darkhold corrupted Wanda. Like, yeah, they're mildly aware of their actions, but they get blind with rage and while that doesn't justify their actions, it means they're not bad down their core.
Lost the Relative they were closest to, which triggered them to become full-on heroes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loki killed his birth father, who knows what happened to the mother, lost Frigga which I'm pretty sure he blames himself for it (which is why Mobius says "like you killed your mother" he was playing with that guilt), and then lost Odin, and he probably blames himself for it if he "hadn't cast that spell on him, he'd be alive". But back to Frigga a little bit, it's thanks to her sacrifice that Loki gets that push he needed to become an antihero
And damn, Wanda lost... everyone, her parents to a warlord using Stark tech (and taught it had been the latter), Pietro to Ultron which I'm still guilty about, Vision at least 3 times so far and twice at her own hands, the twins sort of twice two... but despite loosing her family she always knows when she makes a mistake and is willing to make sacrifices.
Use powers to escape reality
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the first main difference between their arcs stands, thanks to the nature of their own powers Loki's maladaptive daydream is harmless being purely illusory, while Wanda has reality warping powers that she was just realizing she had (prior to this her powers were limited to prestidigitation, energy beams and minor mind manipulation).

By popular demand, here are some RP/Fanfic ideas I've written down over the last few months! (All of them being about the Deadly Six, because what else did you expect?)
If you like any of these and want to use them for stories/AUs or just take general inspo from them that's totally fine by me! Some of these ideas are ones I like and would like to see developed ; but don't feel like developing myself. So feel free to nick anything you like!
Putting everything under the cut to save your dash-
TITLE: Terror Temple
Starting with my two favorite premises which I might/probably will still do something with, but also really want to share because I think they're cool-
CHARACTER(S): Zavok, Zazz, Zeena, Master Zik, Zomom, Zor, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Metal Sonic, Orbot, Cubot
GENRE(S): Adventure, Supernatural
SUMMARY: As Eggman attacks Lost Hex once again and is chased away by the Deadly Six, he runs into an old temple where he is subsequently followed by both the Zetis and Sonic's group. As it turns out however, the abandonned temple may not be as harmless as it first appeared…
TITLE: Aftershock
(The Temple's Curse makes people's fears materialize ; such a filling a room with water due to Sonic not being able to swim and being afraid of drowning)
CHARACTER(S): Zavok, Zazz, Zeena, Master Zik, Zomom, Zor, "Mysterious Foes" (Optionnal), Sonic (Optionnal), Tails (Optionnal)
GENRE(S): Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Family
SUMMARY: When Zavok returns from a brief scouting mission around Lost Hex, he is horrified to find that someone attacked Zeti Castle in his absence. His home is ravaged, the mechs are in pieces- But worst of all, his pack has been gravely injured in the assault. It's now up to Zavok to pick up the pieces and care for his family, at least as best he can…
TITLE: Building the Pack
Some much sweeter, family-centric ideas-
CHARACTER(S): Master Zik, Zavok, Zeena, Zor, Zomom, Zazz
GENRE(S): Adventure, Family, Hurt/Comfort
TITLE: Junior
SUMMARY: Master Zik, renowned warrior and sage, has decided to form a group of young warriors to protect the Lost Hex. He takes his young student Zavok with him on a quest to find more members for their pack.
CHARACTER(S): Zavok, Master Zik, Zazz, Zeena, Zomom, Zor, "Zetling"
GENRE(S): Family, Humor
TITLE: At Your Own Pace
SUMMARY: The Deadly Six's training grounds are a secret location, hard and perilous to reach… So when the group stumbles upon a small, lonely zetling, it's pretty obvious the poor child was left there… And needs to be cared for.
CHARACTER(S): Zavok, Zazz, Zeena, Zomom, Master Zik, Zor
GENRE(S): Family, Comedy
SUMMARY: Lost Hex, over a century ago. The Deadly Six won't exist for several decades, and Master Zik has only just taken five young students under his wing. He watches tenderly over Zavy, Zazz, Zeena, Zomom and Zor as his students train, grow and slowly find themselves, day after day.
EXTRA(S): Trans!Zavok, NB!Zor, Maybe more??
(This one was written specifically to explore some headcanons about the D6 I don't usually use when writing them)
TITLE: The BIG Swap
And the last two, which I don't really know how to classify-
CHARACTER(S): Zavok, Zazz, Zeena, Master Zik, Zomom, Zor, Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Orbot, Cubot (+ Possibly more)
GENRE(S): Comedy, Adventure
TITLE: On the 6th Floor // Mobius City
SUMMARY: Another day, another fight between the Deadly Six and the Mobians invading their territory. What happens, however, when one of Eggman's experimental weapons malfunctions, causing everyone to… Swap bodies with each other?! Wait, isn't this a really cliché and overdone trope-?
CHARACTERS: The Deadly Six, Literally anyone/everyone else
GENRE(S): Family, Friendship, Fluff, Comedy
SUMMARY: (Alternate Universe) A modern version of Sonic's world, set in the bustling town of Mobius City. Everyone has their own life to lead ; going to school, to work, falling in love, paying taxes, chasing their dreams, going grocery shopping… Hopefully with a little bit of fun and chaos sprinkled in.
(AKA the daily lives of a group of Zetis living on the 6th floor of their appartment building. Zavok is a succesful but tired salaryman, Zor is a uni student, Zik is a retired yoga teacher ; the others all have some kind of part-time job to support the family)

Got a hypothetical for you: through some multiversal storm or some other hand wave, AoSTH and SatAM Robotnik end up switching places and now have to deal with their respective counterparts version of Sonic and Mobius. What happens?
Hmmm... lemme think.
Okay, it'd probably go something like this-
AoStH Robotnik in Satamworld would be pretty troublesome with access to Robotropolis and the rest of Robotnik's empire. Snively would probably initially attempt to rule through the guy, but he'd swiftly be put in his place, and probably find himself missing the old Robotnik given how Adventures-nik is not only bad tempered, but utterly and totally unreasonable at that.
While AosTH Robotnik isn't exactly harmless or stupid (Mass Transit Trouble, anyone?), he's still a LOT more childish than his SatAM counterpart or even Dr. Eggman, and as such his priorities with his newfound empire won't be put to the best use- I can imagine shortly after realizing he's hit the jackpot, he immediately begins sending his forces out to build statues of himself everywhere. The Freedom Fighters naturally are swiftly alerted to bizarre activity coming out of Robotropolis, and are shocked to find a weird doppelganger of Robotnik running the place.
In the inevitable clash AoStH Robotnik proves himself to be pretty homicidal, but ultimately nowhere near as canny as his SatAM counterpart, and as such Sonic and the FFs have an easier time dealing with him. There IS one troublesome aspect to things though- THIS Robotnik's irrationality makes it hard to really guess how he'll proceed with things, and his unwitting willingness to do damage to Robotropolis itself if it means getting at them makes things dicier for them than you'd think.
Meanwhile in the Adventures-verse...
Robotnik finds this version of Mobius annoying. Just being there is giving him a migraine. Once he realizes what's happened he sets about trying to find a way to get back to his Mobius, but also does research on the new world to gauge it and how conquerable it might be- it is for the most part a pristine version of Mobius with resources ripe for taking.
Once he figures out how to work it, he puts AoStH Robotnik's robot making machines to pretty terrifying use, building an army and roboticizers in short order and sending them out into the surrounding areas en-masse, with the intent of building a new Robotropolis and a portal back home so that he might rule BOTH worlds. One of his first actions as well is to scrap the Dumbots, their ridiculous idiocy taxing his limited patience within only a few moments.
It is in fact this action that first alerts Sonic and Tails to the fact something is very amiss on Mobius, and with Von Schlemmer's help they rebuild the dumbots and learn about what's going on. Sonic is at first flippant, given how used he is to the usual Robotnik, but soon he finds out that he and the rest of Mobius are in a world of trouble as organized Swatbot armies begin to swarm everywhere. Sonic and Tails do their best to stop him, but they're pretty much pushed to the brink as well as learning the hard way that THIS Robotnik is very different from the one they're used to, and the usual tactics just aren't going to cut it.
After that things go as you'd expect- Von Schlemmer builds a portal to SatAM Mobius, and thus the Freedom Fighters are able to lend Sonic and Tails there a hand. SatAM Robotnik finally meets his AosTH counterpart and tricks him into helping him build a machine that will draw the Chaos Emeralds into the present and then double crossing the guy to become Supreme High Robotnik himself. The twin Sonics however are able to triumph, and SatAM Robotnik is beaten back, while AosTH Robotnik's attempts to take over the facilities and robot armies Robotnik built are shut down before he can get anywhere. In the immediate aftermath Julian is sent crashing down to Mobius... and happens to land in Mama Robotnik's cell, where he is forced to endure the same horrors as his counterpart.
After letting him suffer a bit at the hands of Mama Robotnik, the two Sonics drag him back to the portal and say their goodbyes as they do a Robotnik switch. While once they are back home Julian manages to escape captivity, he is dismayed to return to Robotropolis to discover its in a state of disrepair thanks to his counterpart, meaning he has to focus on rebuilding his capital city over trying to fight the Freedom Fighters.
And so things return to normal for the Sonics and their friends.
Or something like that, I would imagine.

287. Sonic the Hedgehog #206
Tumblr media
On the Run (Part Two): Troubles by the Dozen
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: Steven Butler Colors: Matt Herms
Tails is a little skeptical of Sonic's conviction that he can take on the entire Iron Dominion himself, but Sonic cockily points out that this isn't the entire Iron Dominion. The Iron King and Queen are there, sure, along with half the Dark Legion and the Yagyu clan, but seeing as there's three entire clans missing from the fray Sonic feels pretty confident he can come out of this one on top. The Iron Queen isn't convinced, thinking he's bluffing, but as Tails begins to carry Eggman away Sonic begins his demonstration of just how powerful he is.
Tumblr media
Inside the city, Sally is heading for the edge of the city wall where Nicole's sensors picked up the Iron Dominion's approach, when Khan calls to her, having escaped the hospital for the time being. He's very keen to talk to her, his motivations definitely seeming more personal than businesslike, but they're immediately distracted by the arrival of a very exhausted Tails.
Tumblr media
You know, as much as I've espoused the "just kill him already" attitude before, Sally does have a very good point here. At this point, with his many sub-bosses and wide reach of control across the world, eliminating Eggman would likely just result in a power vacuum that every sub-boss would immediately try to take advantage of. I mean, hell, that's exactly what's already happening with the Iron Dominion, and Eggman isn't even dead. Being able to have some measure of control with the figurehead of the entire empire in their custody would definitely give the Freedom Fighters and Republic of Acorn an edge. Khan offers to haul Eggman away to the prison while Sally organizes the Freedom Fighters to help Sonic against the attack. Sonic, to his credit, is holding his own pretty well, and this pisses the Iron Queen off. Snively tries to reassure her, but she screeches at him that she won't accept his "usual record of failure" before ordering her husband to join the fray. Sonic, still feeling cocky, charges Jun Kun, obviously forgetting that he's pretty much invincible. Predictably, he gets smashed pretty hard by Jun Kun's mace, putting him briefly out of commission.
Tumblr media
You know, I do really like that as inflated as Sonic's ego is, he's never above accepting help when he's out of his depth, and is also fully aware of how bigheaded he can be at times. The Freedom Fighters cause some chaos and allow Sonic a chance to get free, and he happily joins back in the fray, knocking the Iron Queen and Snively's hovercraft out of the sky. The Iron Queen shrieks for everyone to drop what they're doing and help her, only to switch her tune and scream for everyone to chase the Freedom Fighters as Sally sounds the retreat back into the city.
Tumblr media
Sonic, I love you, but you can be such a jerk sometimes, you know? A lovable one, though. Everyone makes it back into the city okay, and Nicole raises the shield, completely blocking the Iron Dominion out - not even Jun Kun's mace can smash through it. Sally becomes concerned when Nicole states she's still experiencing that same strange distortion in her code, but she reassures Sally she'll be fine. Then, unexpectedly, Monkey Khan comes marching to the city wall supporting Bunnie on his shoulder, and despite her weakness and being dressed in a hospital gown she gets to snark at the Iron Dominion through a window in the city wall, telling them to leave. With no way in, the Iron Queen furiously orders everyone back to the Eggdome, completely ignoring an exhausted and injured Snively on her way out. Later, in the prison, Sonic visits Eggman to see how he's doing. His madness basically presents similarly to dementia, first thinking he's back in his lab in Old Mobotropolis working under the king, then cackling at Sonic for destroying "his" kingdom, then becoming confused once more and thinking he's back in the Great War. Sonic eventually convinces him to sleep, not mocking or being harsh to him at all, and when he turns to leave, he's surprised to see Khan watching him with an irritable expression.
Tumblr media
I mean, that basically sums up Sonic's philosophy though, doesn't it? He's not the vengeful type. If anything, he's a little too forgiving for his own good. As for Monkey Khan, I'm incredibly pleased at how much character development he's shown in such a short amount of time. Whereas his head was three times the size of Mobius before, now he's shown himself to be a genuinely kind and thoughtful person underneath his temper. I suppose it's a consequence of him having had time to adjust to life outside a locked metal box again, huh?
As the story winds down, Snively approaches Regina's door, timidly wondering if she's angry at him. She only opens the door long enough to snarl at him that if he ever wants to come into her chambers again, he'll have to find a way past the New Mobotropolis shield, before slamming the door in his face and leaving him uncertain and alone. You shoulda known it was too good to be true, Snively. Villains like her, even attractive female ones who seem to want you as a lover, will always end up treating their lackeys poorly when things go awry.
Birthright (Part Two)
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: Jamal Peppers Colors: Matt Herms
Oh, and speaking of disgruntled lackeys…
Lien-Da enters Dimitri's hidden lab to find him hard at work studying the neutralizing chips the Iron Queen has supplied him with to disable Eggman's explosives in their cybernetics. Of course, as hinted before, they weren't given to him out of the goodness of her heart - Dimitri's found that they will indeed disable the bombs, but have the side effect of making the Legion totally susceptible to mind control from the Iron Queen's technomagic. So far, Dimitri's had success in modifying a single chip to be a harmless neutralizer, but Lien-Da suggests a more devious plan to modify that chip further into a control device, so they could instead control the Legion telepathically. Dimitri insists he'd never do that to his own people… and abruptly, his glass bubble shatters and he blacks out. When he awakens, he finds himself on the table unable to move, and Lien-Da happily informs him that she overloaded his systems so she could put her plan into action. Dimitri is horrified as she installs the control chip into her own cybernetics, and informs him that she'll be distributing the rest of the unmodified chips to the rest of the Legion.
Tumblr media
Man, in just the past few issues, Ian has shown Lien-Da to be the traitorous schemer that Kenders insisted she is, more than Kenders himself ever managed to demonstrate. It's clear her loyalty to Dimitri in the past was only ever fueled by the hope that she could someday succeed him, and now, with Dimitri weakened and new management in place, she's finally found her chance. She goes before the Iron Queen and concocts a story about Dimitri having fled and abandoned his duties, and informs her that she's installed all the chips in her people. The Iron Queen, delighted at her immediate, confident command of the situation, finally gives Lien-Da what she's wanted for so long - the title of Grandmaster. Somehow, I don't think Grandmaster Lien-Da is a thing that's going to end well…
