Currently in the process of making a medieval rope bed....we're very, very close to having the sides all fit together, but it got too dark to carry on (and too anti social whoops 馃槄)
So enjoy partial assembly plus very frustrated boyfriend (and the 1/10th scale model)

Been hastily finishing comissions before the large annual event and officially fuck this cloak
It should have been easy, because the wearer had already cut out the pieces, and should have been maybe an hour job to put together.
However, they totally messed up the neckline, making it far too big, so I essentially had to take a massive triangle out the back, plus smaller ones at the shoulder, turning a 3 panel cloak into a 6 panel.
Also the sheer weight of this fabric is absolutely ridiculous, like will probably damage the wearer's spine ridiculous, I have to use my core just to lift it, so because of that I basically had to sew at full speed just for the machine to feed it properly, which wasn't much fun.
In conclusion, if I take commissions like this again, I'M sourcing the fabric aaldlflhkja

Work looked especially picturesque this morning.
It's very cold, but crisp, that classic autumn morning, where the dew is so heavy it's hard to tell if it's frost.
With the sun coming up behind the castle, the sandstone looks almost blue in the the shadow.
Still, I'm very glad we have heating!

This year's Steampunk project is a little less for quantity but a lot more intricate - I'm doing my own take on a Butterick historical pattern to go with a skirt that was one of my first big steampunk endeavours

Decided to make a petticoat to go under my steampunk/victorian esque outfits...
Tumblr media
...And to try and and make an entire 1890s inspired walking suit and underpinnings in 2 weeks around a 40 hour work week while using as much fabric as I already have as possible
The left was my skirt inspiration, and the right is the pattern I already have. Will I get it done in time? Who knows 馃槄馃槄

Apologies for the terrible photo quality 馃槄馃槄馃槄, didnt post last night because I was attempting to get more than 5 hours sleep XD, but this is yesterday's progress! The corset is now functional, though in hindsight I should have added more boning channels, and possibly made it a D rather than a DD cup, but hey, first proper corset, so it was a learning process 馃槄
Jacket body is mostly done, I need to add interfacing to the lower front cause I accidentally skipped a step oops 馃槄 then the collar, lining and sleeves need to be added...hopefully I can get it done tonight 馃馃馃

I actually managed it! I'm not super happy with how the jacket turned out, but I think that was at least partly a problem of the fabric realistically wanting to be stiffer. I kind of want to take it apart and interline it, and change the way I sew the lining to outer, then reattach the frogs

Today's follow up from this post, corset pieces are all together! The busk was incredibly fiddly because I have no idea where my awl is, so I ended up improvising with a corkscrew 馃槄馃槄馃槄 but once that was in place, it all seemed to go relatively smoothly (relative to other bodice/corsets I've made).
I was hoping to have it done today, but I had to cook food and eat which is highly irritating, plus I had a mini heart attack because I briefly thought that my laptop update had wiped my files.
My plan is to finish it tomorrow, and get the mock up for the jacket cut out (I'm hoping I'll be able to size up enough just on the toile that I dont need to do a full on pattern grading), but we shall see!

Skirt is mostly done! I need to tack the facing down so it doesnt prolapse馃槄馃槄馃槄馃槄, now onto the next step which is the corset, so I can then tailor my jacket properly
Tumblr media
Pattern is the Truly Victorian 1880s corset, first time sewing with a busk and metal boning but the toile seemed to fit pretty well so!

Follow up from yesterday - corset is 90% done but I need longer stays, at least for the front, so I'm hoping I can grab some tomorrow and then it just needs the bottom bias sewing in after that.
I also got my mockup done and my grading up seems to have worked thank god (plus the whole thing is cut on the bias, so stretchy, phew! I'm thinking if I cant get it finished in time I might leave the sleeves off for now and wear it as a waistcoat, since I have a few nice shirt waist type shirts I can use.
