We start off the episode with this shot of Superman with the drawn on glasses. A good homage to what Lois did in the 1980 Superman II movie...

where she not only drew the glasses but also a full suit and hat on a picture of Superman.

Next we see Jimmy waking up and seeing someone debunking his conspiracy theories on Sub-Diego.

Sub Diego was an actual place in the DC universe before the New 52 reboot. In Aquaman #15 and #16 (2003) , shown here (W: Will Pfeifer, P: Patrick Gleason, I: Christian Alamy, C: Nathan Eyring, L: Jared K. Fletcher for issue 15, Nick Napolitano for issue 16). The underwater city is actually San Diego, but is buried underwater thanks to a tidal wave and makes its first appearance in Aquaman #15 (2003). There was a lot of casualties from this.

When we get to our title its "You Will Believe A Man Can Lie" a reference to the tagline for the 1978 Superman movie.

As seen here on the poster, it says "You'll believe a man can fly".

Next we see our villain, well one of the villains, for the episode, Heatwave.

In the comics Heatwave makes his first appearance in Flash 140 (1963) (cover art by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp). Heatwave aka Mick Rory is a Flash rogue usually acting as a rival to Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart. In MAwS, their Heatwave shares the same last name and powers, but MAwS Heatwave is gender flipped. You might have seen Heatwave in the CW DC comics shows where he is played by Dominic Purcell in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Lois, later in the episode, name drops Heatwave's name. Gotta be honest when Heatwave showed up I was like is that Rampage? Cuz the MAwS design looks vaguely like Rampage.

If she does show up in MAwS, I'll talk more about her in another post, but for now, Rampage aka Karen Lou "Kitty" Faulkner, makes her first appearance in Superman #7 (1987) (full page here: W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza).

Steve drags Jimmy to film his debunking Flamebird videos and references Starro who I talked about here.

Lois, later runs around with the Daily Planet police scanner trying to catch Superman and the dispatcher reports that a robbery is in progress at McGuinness Luxe Garage.

This is a nice reference to Ed McGuinness who was the artist for Superman, Action Comics, and Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. If you've seen Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, then you'll know the movie takes inspiration from his character designs in the first arc of the Superman/Batman comic series. The Superman/Batman #1 (2003) cover here is done by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, and Dave Stewart. I like Ed McGuinness's pencils, very stylized.

Heatwave name drops Livewire and the Gazzo mod family. Both of whom I've talked about here and here respectively

Heatwave has been running away from Deathstroke here who has been taking our her crew. Notice that Slade Wilson doesn't have the half black half orange helmet yet that almost every Deathstroke depiction always has.

He, Amanda Waller, and the General who I totally think is General Sam Lane, Lois's dad, are fans of DBZ cuz of the scouters they're wearing.

Later in the scene we see the General again he's totally General Sam Lane. I'll talk more about him when we get a double confirmation through a name drop/reveal in a later post calling Amanda Waller, Mandy. What a fucking bold thing to say to Waller! Like damn! power move right there!

Superman and Deathstroke are fighting under a highway and we see the traffic is heading to Bludhaven!

Very good reference to my favorite character in all of pop culture, Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Nightwing makes Bludhaven his city to protect. The city makes its first appearance in Nightwing #1 (1996) (the panel here - W: Chuck Dixon, P: Scott McDaniel, I: Karl Story, C: Roberta Tewes, L: John Costanza). Fun Bludhaven fact, its crime rate is WORST than Gotham! Also HIGHLY recommend reading the new Nightwing run cuz its fucking amazing! Won a few Eisner Awards (think the Oscars but for comic books) recently and I am not just saying that because I am a Dick Grayson fan.

Near the end of the episode, we see Lois willing to jump off a building to prove that Clark is Superman. A lot of discourse was happening online over this, but I do want to say this is pretty on brand for her to do.

In Superman II, Lois does something similar and Clark saves her. its just in MAwS, Clark flies to save her thus ruining the secret identity, while in Superman II, Clark does save her but he is still able to get away with it thanks to him playing it more subtly.

Don't know why people we're in such a fucking fit over something that Lois has done before.

In the after credits scene, Jimmy, who planned a sasquatch finding adventure with Lois and Clark, but they were dealing with their shit and Jimmy was by himself, decides to do the finding on his own and meets a giant gorilla. In the first episode Jimmy mentions an intelligent gorilla in France and my guess is this is Monsieur Mallah. You can read more about him here. I understand obviously why the "um actually tumblr has a long history of silencing minorities, don't you remember the 'russian psyops' " conspiracy theory is coming up again in light of very real discrimination from Tumblr execs and mods, but one does need to recall that in addition to none of the IRA accounts having like, any mutuals they chatted with, and none of them ever breathing a word on another social media platform nor going to the press, the blogs labeled as psyops were notably really fucking clownshoes shit making objectively (and easily) disprovable claims.

I feel stuck in my head and I need to ask someone: what's gonna happen to us when biden's reelected? What can we do to stop the genocide? What can we do to get roe v wade back? How to we make things okay?

Answering the last question first — how do we make things okay? We get informed, and we get involved.

If you want to change how things work, first you have to understand why they work the way they do. I’m not saying you have to become an overnight expert, but you gotta know the basics. You have to know who *really* makes the decisions about the stuff you care about. And I’m not being snarky here, but there’s a very very very good chance that that person is not Biden.

(long-ish more in depth USA-specific thoughts under the cut)

Let’s look at the two specifics that you mention. Yes, the president may be commander in chief of the armed forces but that “just” (air quotes bc obviously that is hugely consequential power, but it’s not the only power at play) means he’s the guy who says yes or no, stay or go. A more effective tool to address the United State’s relationship to Israel? Money. You know who controls the federal money? Congress. You know which political body has elections twice as frequently as the president? Congress. Look into who your Senators and Representatives are, look into their voting records, look into their hiring choices, look into their public statements and appearances, look into the company the keep.

If you like what you find, let them know, and if you have the resources, donate money and/or volunteer your time to make sure they win reelection. If you do not like what you find, and you think they might be responsive to public pressure, let them know you didn’t like what you found. If you found it abhorrent or do not trust that they will adjust to their constituents expectations, figure out if they have a competitor, and if they don’t, make sure that someone steps up to the plate. That someone doesn’t have to be you, but while we live in an ostensible democracy, these people can lose their jobs if and when we vote them out.

Regarding Roe v Wade, this might be upsetting to hear but you need to get used to the idea that it’s not coming back, and if anything, things might get worse. If voting and the legal system is your jam, I can recommend researching the circuit and district judges that preside over your region. If organizing and direct action are more your thing, there’s probably a Nurse’s Union in your area that can point you in the right direction. If your school district has an elected body where you can run for a seat to make sure that kids in your area are getting appropriately scientific sexual health education, do that. If you feel brave enough to start actively having conversations about sexual health and reproductive rights among your daily/weekly social groups, and maybe even start a book club style study group to learn about the legal and medical aspects most relevant where you live, do that. Even on the most individual scale, if you can make it clearly known that you are a safe person for people to talk to about this stuff, that’s a great step in the right direction.

To wrap this up, I think I’ll just say that I think big picture, if Biden wins a second term, things will be fine. If anything, maybe his administration will be able to bolster the environmental wins in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) but at a basic level he will probably maintain the status quo and then after the four years are up, he’ll leave office.

Let’s please not pretend the same can be said about Trump.

But in the spirit of ending on a more hopeful note, if you do not want Kamala Harris to be the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party in 2028 (and/or if you want a third party other than the Democrats and the Republicans to stand a snowball’s chance in hell) the time to start organizing is now. We deserve better than the status quo, we can do this, let’s fuckin go 💪

Finances will get better once I understand the best steps to taking out the IRA stuff, then that should help everything else since I'll be using a tiny bit of it to go to the doctor, pay off my college debt, etc etc! And I got into roller skating, so maybe that'll help me with my energy levels without tiring me out!

Also, for my fellow gorls, if you have su*cidal thoughts and anger issues, consider getting off birth control. Completely gone when I got off it, who knew messing with your hormones would mess with your mental health? AHHHH //WHEEZE

4 MESES. 4… Esse número te remete alguma coisa? Muito se fala na pronúncia utilizada na China e Japão, onde se assemelha muito com a da palavra “morte”, trazendo estranhamento e até repulsa de alguns nativos supersticiosos. A Coréia fica distante disso, por ter diferenças na fala, entretanto, chineses e japoneses estão logo ali, bem presentes na história do país sul coreano. Talvez completar 4 meses de atividade, em pleno mês do horror, não tenha sido uma coisa tão boa…

Com o badalar da meia noite, anunciando oficialmente o início do mês de outubro, algumas mudanças estavam para ser feitas. Já se imaginou acordando um dia e estando em um corpo totalmente diferente do seu? Quase como uma transformação, das quais são vistas em diversas mitologias como formas de punição, desde a metamorfose de um humano para um animal ou objeto. De muitos poderia ser debatido os motivos. Divindades gregas, romanas, nórdicas, egípcias, sempre possuíam um quê de egocentrismo e com os poderes subindo pela cabeça, a ponto de cobrir cada fração do cérebro existente ali. Em sua maioria, as transformações eram lançadas com mais frequência em humanos que buscassem entrar no caminho dos Deuses, então, poderíamos considerar, no mínimo, estranho que algo daquele tipo atingisse o corpo imortal das próprias divindades presentes.

Seria uma maldição? Uma punição? Mas por quê? Luxúria? Gula? Preguiça? Ira? Podia ser até algo ruim que comeram, talvez balinhas ácidas demais? Não se há de saber, entretanto, o calafrio que subia pela espinha dizia que algo estava estranho, muito estranho… Parece que a sensação assombrosa continuará até o fim do mês.

Poseidon, Ceres, Cronos e Diana passaram a reinar sobre o ambiente gregoriano, trazendo consigo monstrinhos levados que vivem saindo de suas gaiolas, idênticos com os de um desenho muito popular. Quem sabe vocês os encontram pelos ambientes do condomínio? Ouvi dizer que o Mimikyu e o Pumpkaboo adoram lugares quentinhos, enquanto que, Duskull e Espurr preferem algo mais refrescante, isso pode ajudá-los a ficarem atentos.

E quando digo "nós", incluo vocês, nossos queridos players que, apesar das opções incríveis que tinham e ainda têm, escolheram e escolhem depositar confiança e tempo justamente aqui, no nosso cantinho. Somos gratas a cada um que contribuiu e continua contribuindo para a existência e permanência da Acropolis na tag. Isso aqui começou com um "e se?", onde a minha resposta imediata era "tá doida?", porque, de fato, parecia doidice começar uma comunidade do nada, sem nenhum suporte, sem conhecimento, sem experiência, sem tempo, mas o destino foi do caralho e colocou pessoas incríveis que toparam e abraçaram essa ideia com a gente. E, pasmem, ele continua colocando seres de luz em nosso caminho até hoje! Pessoas que estendem a mão sempre que enfrentamos um desafio novo, que auxiliam, que dão dicas, que apoiam e que nos encorajam diariamente. Deixamos aqui o nosso carinho pra cada um que adere aos nossos eventos, que mandam fofocas, dicas de jogos, propostas de eventos e plotdrops, interagem com a Avenida Acropolis, movimentam nosso Discord, nos trazem opiniões construtivas, que permanecem conosco mesmo com a vida corrida e contratempos OOC, que vão embora, mas voltam para debaixo das nossas asas quando podem, ou que foram, mas deixaram sua torcida de suporte e ajudam ou ajudaram, em algum momento, a tornar esse nosso cantinho em um espaço cada vez mais confortável. Qual é, eu vou chorar. 😿 Agradeço, também, às minhas colegas e amigas Netuno, Saturno e Artemis, que mesmo nos matando 90% do tempo nos bastidores, ainda conseguimos levar tudo isso em diante e resolver as situações na nossa lerdeza e calmaria de sempre.

Como sempre queremos saber as opiniões de vocês em relação ao que fazemos por aqui, afinal de contas, é um ambiente feito pra acolhê-los também, então, mantermos um consenso e cumplicidade é muito importante! Criamos um formulário de feedback que estará aberto por tempo ILIMITADO, as perguntas são dissertativas e, admito que o tamanho delas pode assustar, mas é apenas porquê queríamos dar todo o contexto, para quem não presenciou algumas situações, também poder responder e, claro, não precisam escrever textões, apenas do jeito que vocês acharem que devem. Nós queremos saber as opiniões sinceras dos nossos players.

Além de toda a temática visual, nós elaboramos uma série de brincadeiras e atividades para esse mês horripilante, onde vocês receberão eventos, plotdrops, minigames e capítulos da novelinha cheios de toques assombrosos e menções ao Halloween. Buscamos deixar as atividades o mais neutras possíveis ou com dois lados da moeda, para que sejam apreciadas tanto pelos personagens que gostam de uns sustinhos, como também pelos medrosos existentes nesse complexo, mas, caso ainda assim algo lhe traga qualquer tipo de desconforto, não hesite em nos falar!

Podem checar alguns eventos que estão por vir acessando o nosso querido cronograma.

Olha que babado, a gente trocou de corpo e TAMBÉM ganhamos uns monstrinhos temporários! E adivinhem? Eles são doidos para fugir, ainda tentamos mantê-los presos, mas, uff, cuidar de monstros é muito cansativo… Durante o passar dos dias eles aparecerão vez ou outra pelos canais do nosso servidor do DISCORD, com alguns emojis temáticos.

E, como uma atividade diferente, nós iríamos ficar muito gratas se nos ajudassem a capturá-los.

No OOC: ✦ Cada uma de nós, modinhas, possui um pet, que, por vezes, aparecerá no discord com a criação de um tópico e um emoji de halloween. Nossos players queridos deverão contar quantas vezes cada bichinho aparecerá durante o mês para que, no final dele, conquistem um prêmio se a contagem estiver correta; ✦ E, também, o primeiro personagem que enviar um turno, dentro do tópico do monstrinho, pegando a action figure em cada aparição que tiver no discord, terá aquele ponto para si. Não é obrigatório enviar um turno de 4 páginas, gigantesco, cheio de detalhes. Um textinho descritivo, objetivo, como fazem normalmente nos eventos, narrando onde o personagem encontrou a action figure, está ótimo. Fica a critério de cada um, não vamos limites ou definir a sua criatividade; ✦ Haverá prêmio IC e OOC. ✦ Aproveitem para interagir com os outros! Façam plotcalls, combine com alguém pra competir pela action figure em uma corrida pra ver quem pega primeiro, o local vocês terão, dai os detalhes de onde estava escondido será com vocês. Estava preso na parede por fitas? Dentro de uma pilha de folhas? Debaixo da mesa? Precisou falar com a atendente do estabelecimento pra ele te entregar (mais uma ideia de interação aí!)? Soltem a criatividade! Dentro do IC: ✦ Alguns funcionários irão colocar um estande de papelão, em pé, na frente do estabelecimento do qual um dos nossos pets apareceu, com a foto do respectivo bichinho de estimação; ✦ O Momus irá sempre fazer um tweet quando um deles estiver zanzando por aí e a missão dos seus personagens será ir em cada local para capturar a action figure que representa cada monstrinho; ✦ Se o personagem não conseguir, terá que ir em outro lugar, quando o anúncio for feito pelo Momus. Importante! Os funcionários do estabelecimento não podem pegar o monstrinho se ele for anunciado ali, apenas se ele estiver em outro estabelecimento. Por exemplo, se o Momus disser que um dos diabinhos está no Nectar Cafe, os funcionários da cafeteria não poderão procurar a action figure, somente os demais moradores; ✦ Será uma guerra de colecionadores para, no fim do mês, quem possuir mais action figures capturadas, será premiado.

Vocês terão mais detalhes IC na publicação de amanhã, com o anúncio do nosso evento MAKE, FIND AND BE SCARY, junto com algumas outras coisinhas que estarão acontecendo durante o mês. Enquanto isso, que tal irem fuxicar as páginas e contas das centrais para analisarem toda a estética nova? Soube que até um novo local de moradia foi adicionado, já checaram a lista de condôminos...?
