Radiant Dawn is such an unfinished mess.
The fact that some plot points got changed because they were just plain stupid in the jp release, the way that Dawn Brigade gets the absolute worst treatment, RD exclusive units in general. Which in my opinion would be better if they didn't cut supports. The forge points in jp version is just awful. And they don't give you the weapons for the DB trio in part 3. No battle saves for easy and normal mods. Skill activation is a pain. Units needing Master Crowns to advance to 3rd tier and Mist needing the other Crown. Authority being useless on non commander units, it does add on the character feeling, but gameplay wise it's worthless.
The USA version being a mess in it's own way, some translation issues and version exclusive bugs. And the fact that they translated only the normal mode script is the most annoying thing for me, we lost the Ranulf saying that Soren should ride on his back scene, truly a tragedy. If i remember correctly there was a revision that fixed some issues.
The EU version is the best one to play. It fixed the bugs and translation mistakes. It does have some mistakes too.
Music is great, some tracks are hard to come by, like the Daein Liberation theme because it isn't in the music library for some reason or the great unused remixes of PoR character themes.
Yes, Fe10 is one of my favourite fire emblem games. It kinda drives me nuts every time i remember how much potential this one had and how much i love it despite its many flaws. Stefan's convo in part 4 with you-know-who is pretty nice. And Ike having two kinda gay if you ask me endings with characters he has a lot of chemistry with is the best thing that actually could have happened, in my opinion. And i could list a lot of others things i like, but i should stop, at least for now.
I hope i didn't cause trouble because of how long this take is. Have a wonderful time of day.

(ooc) amendment ;
going to add this to my pinned but as I go through the event i wanted to add a couple things that might be important to note for naesala in particular.
REGARDING GENDER: Naesala exclusively uses he/him pronouns but will often refer to himself, mostly internally, with the more feminine descriptor when choosing between two words (e.g. girlfriend, woman, pretty, etc.). I do not expect your character to know that he uses those, nor would I consider it god-modding for your character to notice! He's not actively speaking his preference aloud so if you have a character who would notice this without it being explicit, feel free to reference. This is mainly on here to explain his gender and how he sees himself.
REGARDING IN-GAME USE OF DEROGATORY TERMS: Naesala will refer to non-laguz characters as 'beorc' unless you've aggro-pinged him, in which case he will use the word 'human'. As stated by Ranulf in PoR that term is only used by characters who hold disdain for non-laguz (beorc), and it is a nasty phrase. He will not use this term unprovoked, whether it be by external pressures or by the thread itself. While the use of 'sub-human' generally means the same sort of hatred for laguz that human does for non-laguz, the word crow is also one that is used to degrade the ravens in particular. The only groups in game that call Naesala / the Ravens 'crows' are generally the hawk tribe and Daein -- anyone else who does only uses that term when they have nothing else to go by (e.g. Ike).
You can use the word 'crow' if your character is purposefully being rude, but know that it is not a kind term -- spare for those in game who use it (e.g. Tibarn, Ulki, Janaff) and Naesala's own self-deprecating monologues I would prefer it is used sparingly.
Thanks for reading!

Analysis
Following Kaden: Kitsune Braggart, Ranulf joins FEH as our second green cavalry beast. With great Spd and Def, Ranulf makes for an excellent player phase duelist able to initiate from a significant distance and withstand substantial physical damage. Even when Ranulf himself is unable to pick favorable fights, his supportive skills set ensures that he can contribute to his team, especially beast allies.
With 30/37 Atk and Spd, Ranulf’s offenses may seem underwhelming on paper; however, as a cavalry beast, it’s important to keep in mind that his Covert Cat Fang effectively grants +4 to his Atk (and defenses) in the player phase on top of 16 Mt while transformed. This makes him deceptively dangerous especially with his range as a cavalry unit while taking minimal physical damage with 40 effective Def. Covert Cat Fang also has the bonus of granting extra Atk and Def while near allies, which although can be difficult to utilize in the player phase allows him to function in the enemy phase without missing out on the extra damage and bulk from the transformed initiation bonus. Covert Cat Fang also disables enemy follow-ups in Ranulf’s player phase, meaning he can safely chip opponents even if they are significantly faster than him or have otherwise-threatening skills like Quick Riposte and Vengeful Fighter.
With Chill Atk, Rally Atk/Def+, and Ward Beasts on top of Covert Cat Fang’s Atk/Def Drive effect, Ranulf can significantly increase his allies’ effectiveness and survivability in combat. For instance, with all skills in use, he can grant the target ally a total of +9 Atk and +13 Def. Chill Atk helps weaken hard-hitting opponents and can potentially even prevent them from passing Atk checks from skills like Heavy Blade.
Ranulf prefers boons/assets in Atk, Spd, and Def. His preferred banes/flaws are Res (superbane) and HP.
Similar Units
Note: Ranulf is a beast cavalry unit. As such he will have access to uninheritable skills and is thus not directly comparable to most green cavalry units.
Kaden: Kitsune Braggart (38/32/36/25/25)
Ranulf: Friend of Nations (+2/-2/+1/+8/-7)
Note: Kaden has access to uninheritable skills and is thus is not directly comparable.
Marth: Altean Groom (40/31/36/30/20)
Ranulf: Friend of Nations (+0/-1/+0/+3/-3)
Laegjarn: New Experiences (38/32/35/35/17)
Ranulf: Friend of Nations (+2/-2/+2/-2/+0)
Nailah: Unflinching Eye (40/31/37/32/23)
Ranulf: Friend of Nations (+0/-1/+0/+1/-6)
Note: Nailah has access to uninheritable skills and is also a different movement type and is thus not directly comparable.
Builds
Budget/Low Investment:
Tumblr media
Ranulf is very much ready to use with minimal investment thanks to his solid base kit. The first build uses Death Blow and Darting Blow to increase his player phase offensive power since he will mostly want to be initiating attacks as a cavalry beast. While transformed, Ranulf will effectively have 56 Atk and 43 Spd on initiation unsupported, or 59 Atk while within 2 spaces of an ally, which is plenty to allow him to make quick work of anything short of extreme tanks.
The second build is more well-rounded with Fury to increase Ranulf’s offenses as well as his bulkiness. With Drive Def, Ranulf can increase his beast allies’ Def by a whopping +16 in addition to Chill Atk’s debuff. His incredible utility allows him to make a significant impact both in and out of combat.
Player Phase:
Tumblr media
As a cavalry melee unit, Ranulf can easily excel in the player phase using Desperation builds to tear through enemy lines.
The first build combines Fury, Desperation, and Brazen Atk/Def to make the most of his fights while damaged. On initiation, he will be able to reach an effective 58 Atk and 50 Def with Brazen Atk/Def active, allowing him to hit hard and mostly ignore physical counterattacks. This build still also makes him capable of fighting in the enemy phase with Covert Cat Fang’s self-drive effect with only 1 less Atk and Def than in the player phase, making him fairly flexible.
The second build uses Heavy Blade to accelerate his Galeforce charge. At a glance, Ranulf’s Atk might seem too low to reliably use Heavy Blade, however Covert Cat Fang reduces his opponents’ Atk on initiation by -4, meaning that he can activate Heavy Blade unsupported against units with Atk stats as high as 57.
Mixed/Enemy Phase:
Tumblr media
This build combines double Atk/Def Bond with Covert Cat Fang to make Ranulf an incredible physical duelist while near his allies. These skills will increase his Atk and Def to 59 and 52 respectively which most melee physical units won’t be able to punch through, much less survive. The potential of this build can of course be pushed even further with ally support, especially with Tactic skills or Hone/Fortify Beasts combined with Kaden: Kitsune Braggart.

hello! could i ask for some romantic headcanons with Ranulf and the reader? it's always nice to see more fe imagines blogs!
of course! i’m going to do this in the context of the tellius games, so if you’d like a heroes situation don’t hesitate to correct me! i’m also going to try to keep this gender neutral, i hope you don’t mind!
romantic Ranulf/reader!
he was a bit surprised at how quickly he took to your party as a whole, but especially to you
ike’s group was a ragtag team from the start, each individual standing out quite a bit. but something about you stuck out to him
when the two of you got some time to chat you’d ask him all manner of questions about life as a laguz, life in gallia, and so on
at first he thought it was sort of funny you were asking so many questions, but when you mentioned you’d never gone far from your home before, the amusement turned to a warmth in his chest
as you traveled and fought for crimea to regain its proper ruler and rightful place in tellius, you spent more time together than not. you’d patch him up after fights (especially when he’d bite off more than he could chew) and he’d be looking after you in turn.
turns out he knew quite a few remedies that were commonplace in gallia that helped quite a lot with everyday aches and pains
you grew closer as time went on, to the point where the rare times he wasn’t at your side you felt odd, almost incomplete
and when the war ended with your side victorious you- hesitantly- elected to remain with him.giving up all you knew was a bit frightening, but the smile on his face eased your worries
you took to life with ranulf- at least, in a settled state- quite quickly, like claws to fishing, he’d say
though his duties to caineghis and skrimir keep him quite busy, nearly every chance he gets he’s with you
he’s always telling you interesting things he sees or hears on any missions he takes. more often than not he’s brought back flowers or leaves or feathers from different corners of the country
whenever you get to travel with him he’ll make a fuss about how he’s concerned you’ll have a hard time keeping up with him, but he never seems to mind taking a little extra time for you
he’s a bit embarrassed about how quickly he relaxes when you pet his hair or scratch him behind the ears. he’s fallen asleep in your lap more than once because of that.
when the two of you share meals he’ll frequently offer you bites of his food, while also occasionally snatching morsels from your plate
he’s (un)surprisingly catlike in other ways too. though his attention is often on a book or a document or on people outside, he’s always sitting next to you, side against yours, when the opportunity presents itself
he’s headbutted you more than once. lethe made it abundantly clear what he was doing and scoffed, saying that he’s too high a station to put his scent on some beorc
you tried to return the favor to make him feel less embarrassed but he wound up informing you that beorc can’t really... do that so easily. since they don’t really have scenting glands on their heads (or anywhere else, he thinks?)
whenever you tell him how cute you thought it was he always tries to push it back on you, but a couple times he’s gotten flustered about it.
he’s always very encouraging about goals you wish to pursue, and wants to help you feel at home with him. at first he goes out of his way to get clothing brought in from crimea, but your home village was small and hard to locate, so it’s all sort of “generic crimean” clothing
you tell him that you’re fine with gallian clothes, and in fact the two of you look great together!
... he does tell you you can’t copy off him forever though. so maybe try a different color than light blue?
