sorry in advance if this is rambly or doesn't make sense. it's 3am and i just have a stupid amount of love for smosh in my heart rn and i wanted to make a lil appreciation post 💕

first off i wanna say: happy birthday smosh! i can't believe this silly youtube channel is already 18 years old. it's hard to exactly describe how much smosh means to me. i discovered the channel nearly 10 years ago (my anniversary is on the 25th!) and even at the times in my life when i wasn't actively watching smosh, they always had such a special place in my heart. ian and anthony have always been able to make me laugh in a way that other channels have never really been able to, and it has been such an absolute delight to see them working together again.

ever since june 20th my life has really been centered around smosh and it's been amazing. if you told me a year ago that this is what my life would look like i never would've believed you. i am so unbelievably grateful for all of the joy, laughter, and opportunities smosh has brought me since anthony's return. i wanna say how happy i am that smoshblr exists and was so welcoming as soon as i made my blog. i honestly don't know if i would've stuck with smosh so strongly if i didn't have this great community to chat with and rediscover my love of this channel with.

and then of course, smoshblr and my friends here led me to joining the smoshcord which has been my absolute home these past few months. i have made so many incredible friends on that server and i wouldn't trade it for the world. all of the neighbors mean sm to me and i absolutely cannot wait to meet a bunch of them at vidcon 2024. also! i am still so honored that erica from the team over at smosh chose me (as well as a few other amazing ppl!) as a community mod for smoshcord. it feels so amazing to be able to give back to the smosh community, for how much it has given me over the years. and just to be recognized by smosh as a respected member of the community means the absolute world to me.

along those lines, while i'm being sappy i think i'm allowed to be a lil selfish and say ?? holy shit if you told 12 year old me that i would go on to have regular conversations with anthony padilla i would tell you you're absolutely insane. it has been such an absolute wild ride but it's so fucking cool that ian and anthony (ok mostly anthony but i think ian too bc of streams n stuff!) know who i am. i have an insane amount of love in my heart for these boys and it's so nice to interact with them on a slightly more personal level. it still feels like an absolute dream to even see them sit next to each other, let alone sit next to each other while saying my name.

but anyways i just want to say thank you smosh. thank you for all of the love and laughter and hope you have given me. you've shown me that friendship DOES truly always win. i am so fucking proud of these boys for mending their relationship and coming through such a hard time to create something genuinely beautiful.

Friendly reminder that Mullberry traces art. From this picture, you can see she very clearly traced the lower half of the character, the weapons on his side. The only part she did herself was the swords, the arms, and the boobs and up. -Mod Squig

Also despite begin anti-trace hardcore, Mod Squig of @/anti-yandere-dev actually traces! The thing she yells at Mulberry (who doesn’t trace) for doing she does herself. Ironic. Look at this trace she did of her OC. I’ve used this sheet multiple times myself to reference stuff but hmm I don’t see her crediting. If she traces this I wouldn’t be surprised if she traced other parts of her work, I just couldn’t find the images for it.  @krit-receipts

Debut: Super Paper Mario

Did you have your fill of Paper Mario piggies with Pigarithm and Hogarithm? Well I hope you made room for desserts, because now it’s time to talk about the whole Squig family!

While Goombas do appear in Super Paper Mario, the developers went “to heck with it!” And decided to design another enemy that just sort of walks along and is easily flattened. Squiglets are a little beefier than Goombas, but it shouldn’t be long before you level up and squish them just as easily. As the catch card says!

“Awww...look at that adorable little Squiglet. So adorable under your foot.”

That description feels a little cruel! It’s not inaccurate at all, but it feels a little cruel nonetheless! To me, the Squig family is sort of a good example of “abstracted animals,” which might be some of the best kinds of animal designs! They might not look anything like pigs, but from a glance you can tell they represent pigs, and that’s what really counts! Heck, what looks like a pig snout is actually its mouth! They shoot boulders from it! Except for Squiglets, which just hop in place when they see you.

There’s a lot more I have to say about these enemies, but I don’t know how to format it, so here’s a list of miscellaneous Squig factoids!

Obviously, they are named after different names for pigs or pig-like creatures, though I’ve never heard the name “oinker” used to describe a pig prior to Super Paper Mario, and it shows up on my computer with a red squiggly-line underneath. Couldn’t they have called it Squoar or something?

And the “squ” in their name is derived from the word “square,” which is why they are all squares. You know how it is! Interdimensional enemies just love their basic geometry!

Despite their English naming convention, however, the Japanese names make no reference to pigs at all! They are just named after the prefix “tetra,” referring to their four-sided appearance. Despite this, the pig connection is made in nearly every translation!

Did you know Squigs are integral to one of the biggest point-grinding tricks in Super Paper Mario? It’s long and tedious and difficult to set up, but you can see it in motion here!

Squoinkers and Headbonk Goombas are the only enemies in Super Paper Mario that aren’t encountered anywhere other than the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials!

Aside from hopping when Mario encounters them and being slightly more bulky, Squiglets also don’t walk off edges, making them more or less proto-Goombrats!

And with that, you now have a PhD in Squig studies! Congratulations!

do yall know what happened with anti-yandere-dev?

Yes. We found out quite a few things about the blog that has left the mods very disheartened and disappointed.

1- Mod Bella posted a receipt YandereDataDigger, a very very violent antisemitic, racist, transphobic, homophobic and in general bigot submitted. On the receipt Mod Bella said that she was glad to see her again. Bella was called out, and she promptly placed the blame on Mod Squig for leaving the receipt in the submissions. Mod Bella and Squig’s relationship was essentially severed. Keep in mind, Mod Bella called the people calling her out for this “too sensitive”. She is a white gentile.

2- Mod Bella left the blog after admitting her guilt.

3- In the AYD server, Squig would punish people for speaking out against others for defending Pewdiepie, would allow people who posted heinous shit to stay until someone expressly begged her to kick them out, and would say things like “while Pewdiepie’s anti-semitism is wrong you shouldn’t call people defending him names.” The AYD server felt VERY defensive of people saying terrible shit- I experienced this myself when I was kicked for a hot minute simply for associating with Mod Tori and Oni, who was calling Squig out for comparing being called gremlins to like, a genuine axis of oppression. I wasn’t even involved in the argument and Tori and Oni didn’t deserve to be kicked either. Squig was just there to silence.

4- Last, but certainly not least, Squig was outed as a spy for Snapai-taro’s server. She caused useless drama simply for her own entertainment and completely derailed our cause just out of boredom. It was selfish and disgusting of her to do. She lied to everyone about it.

We also have reason to believe Squig is 17 years old, not 16, like she claims to be. For example, someone close to Squig said she is actually 17, and Squig told me in dms once she wouldn’t tell me her real age, but was “almost an adult”. This wouldn’t matter so much if Squig wasn’t dating a fourteen year old, which I find creepy whether she’s 16 OR 17.

The mods are surprised and disgusted. If AYD should ever come back, our ties with them are 100% severed. We wish that this is something we learned about sooner rather than later.

“I’m not going to put transfer students of other races because I want it to be a realistic Japanese high school” Literally almost all the characters have watermelon titties, ridiculous stockings, stupid looking multicoloured hairdos and names that aren’t even real. Yes. A realistic Japanese high school indeed.

Okay but he just doesn’t want to used Dark Skinned people in his game. Like. Japanese people have different skin colors, and some are browner than others. (And NOT a spray tan like the bullies) 

Here’s a photo from a Japense highschool. Notice how there is at least 6 students with what seems to be darker skin? (Some of the ones more towards the back I assume is due to lighting) Fun Fact: Not all Japanese people are fair skinned. There is going to be some differences with the skin colors. He has actually 1 dark skinned student (who I assume was born with that skin color and isn’t just tan, since we can see Asu is just tan because she has a tan line) and he’s based off of a DOG. Like are you messing with me? He doesn’t care about realism. He just claims he does. He just wants to keep his fetishistic idea of Japan and their culture and ignore the facts.
