Update: Added more texture in places where it was lacking, and tried to fix the curtain shading as it looked dirty to me lol

So. I’ve always wanted to get better at drawing room environments, and I had this sudden idea for my character Sebastian’s apartment. This is actually just the living-room half of this room, the other side has his bed, and there’s a huge open space next to this room too. Since IDK if I’ll be able to motivate myself to draw all of it, I decided I’ll at least post this.

Couple notes about his place:

His apartment has very high ceiling, because it’s generally meant for dragonic folks. Different beings in this world have different requirements after all, and dragon families tend to prefer high ceilings so they can stretch their wings properly while at home/fly around a bit if they want to. (and store huge amounts of “treasure” whatever that may be for each individual lol)

Sebastian’s love for gothic vibes somewhat shines through with his decoration choices, though it does combine with modern elements as too gothic reminds him of his birth home. (He does not like that place, or his parents lol)

It has two main sections; this long room with a living room and bedroom side + the balcony hangout bit you can access with steep stair ladder from the main room. The main room is just large open space that has the kitchen and doors to bathroom and a laundry room on one side, the access to both levels of the side room as well as huge bookshelves with a reading corner. (I’m gonna try and draw this other main room/bedroom side of this one at least)

Sebastian’s bookshelf is more filled with old school vinyls and cds, as well as a player for both, though he does also have books.

That Bass guitar in the corner is something he sometimes plays.

Hey, does anyone have any thoughts and opinions on the adaption of The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902) to The Hounds of Baskerville (2012), the Sherlock episode?

In particular, did you relate to it more, due to the modern twist, how did it feed into your concept of fear, and was the adaption successful as part of the 21st century gothic? I'd love to hear your thoughts! <3

Modern Gothic lighting

Trying too hard x

Getting somewhere, but still cheap looking and eh. x

Well it sure is black. And modern. But Gothic embodies MORE, y’know? x

It’s a bit too...pretty, but not bad overall. NIcely sparse. x

Now we’re talking! A bit of an art noveau gothic vibe, but all that twisty could be pretty ominous. x

Definitely on the more modern side, but it conceals light as much as it reveals, earning a top mark in my affections. x

Sparse, elegant, the crystals are totally unnecessary which makes them essential to being Gothic. Modern is so stripped back which Gothic demands excess. This lamp somehow manages to fall in that middle zone. Might be better is metal was oil rubbed bronze. x

AITA for not telling my fiancé I know he’s queer?

I 20s (F) have a 20s (M) fiancé, V, and he’s been talking about this terrible secret he cannot tell me and he keeps almost starting to come out and then backing out. The issue is V and I were raised together by his parents, and my surrogate 40s (M) father and (now deceased) surrogate mother arranged for our marriage back when we were both children. They thought it was the best for us and at the time we were too young to realize the implications and had no reason to reject to the match. When we were teenagers our mother was on her deathbed and she told us again that she wished for us to marry, and of course we both agreed. However, V is also best friends with a 20s (M) guy called H, and they were nearly inseparable as boys and teens. They also went to university together and shared an apartment but V had to come home due to family reasons. Lately he’s been going out all day and coming home at night hours later. He insists that he’s fine and that we all leave him alone and not worry for him, but I think he and H have been sneaking around. He even delayed our wedding day by arranging a trip to go to England alone with H. It’s exhausting for all of us and I think I should just tell V I know and support him and that we can call off the marriage, but I’m not sure that’s the best course of action? I’m completely fine with not marrying him - he always felt more like a brother to me anyway - but I worry it might come off wrong. The worst part is he’s really beating himself up about it. He’s so guilty it’s beginning to take a toll on his health. I don’t care if he has a boyfriend I just want him to be happy.

If you like Haunting of Hill House, there's a good chance you'll enjoy this one.
