Sculptured Mitten Lobster (Parribacus antarcticus)

Habitat- Southern Pacific Ocean

Size (Weight/Length)- 20 cm

Diet- Mollusks; Shrimp; Crabs; Sea Urchins

Cool Facts- The sculptured mitten lobster is a friend-shaped crustacean. Their shovel-like body helps them to hide between rocks. In addition, their large body surface makes it very hard to pry them off a rock, forcing predators to face their tough shell. Over time, algae and barnacles grow on their shell and aides in their camouflage. Unlike the American lobster, sculptured mitten lobsters lack claws. The strange protrusions at the front of their head are actually modified antennae. The antennae are used to dig through sand in search of mollusks to munch on.

In honor of Lesbian Visibility Week

Research over the last decade has found that lesbians have more orgasms than straight women, but questions remained as to why. 

A new study published this month in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science found that these differences when it comes to pleasure could be in part due to sexual scripts — or what people expect to happen during sex based on what they’ve seen in movies, television or even pornography. Cisgender women’s expectations for those sexual scripts and for orgasms can vary based on the gender of their partner, the study found. 

Past research has found that men have more orgasms than women, creating what researchers call the orgasm gap. Previous studies have also found that lesbians have orgasms at rates similar to men, which shows that there’s “nothing inherently biological” about the orgasm gap, according to Grace Wetzel, one of the study’s authors and a psychology doctoral candidate at Rutgers University. Wetzel said she wanted to look into the “sexual context” missing from that research, or the other psychological and social factors affecting differences in orgasm rates.

“We wanted to look into why that disparity between lesbian and heterosexual women exists so that we could get a better understanding of why the orgasm gap exists in general,” she said.

Wetzel and two other researchers designed two online studies — one of heterosexual women and lesbians and another of bisexual women. The first study asked a mixed group of 476 heterosexual women and lesbians about the importance of orgasms and their expectations about climaxing during sex. It found that lesbians reported more clitoral stimulation in their sexual encounters, higher orgasm expectations, greater orgasm pursuit and having more orgasms than heterosexual women. However, orgasms were equally important to heterosexual women as they were to lesbians.

In the second study of 482 bisexual participants, the researchers asked the women similar questions about their expectations of orgasms and how strongly they would pursue them in a hypothetical sexual encounter with either a man or a woman.

Habitat- Southeastern Australia

Size (Weight/Length)- 4 cm

Diet- Tree sap

Cool Facts- Called a green grocer when green in color and a yellow monday when yellow, these cicadas are one of the loudest insects in the world. They create a piercing buzz noise by flexing their timbal ribs along their carapace, their call reaching up to 120 decibels. After repeated exposure to a noise this loud, people can experience hearing loss. Of course, the green grocer uses its call to attract mates with louder calls being the most attractive. These cicadas live up to seven years with the majority of their lives spent underground as nymphs. Only their last six weeks of life are spent in their adult form.

Rating- 12/10 (Only 20 decibels quieter than a jet engine.)

I opened the mountain door in Tunic! And now I'm decoding the instruction manual's text! One thing that's disappointing but also a huge relief is that

the secret text is actually English, not a special made-up language. I was pacing back and forth wondering how I could possibly figure anything out, and I finally checked an online guide for hints and the hints were. really weird?? Like, "this is the word for sword, but why does it only have 2 characters?" Like what? Why SHOULDN'T it have only 2 characters? That's just the word for sword in this made-up language right? Then one of the hints made it clear that it was supposed to represent the English word "sword", just written in a weird gimmicky way. Once I realized it was all just English, it was smooth sailing.

Still, that's pretty mean to anyone playing the game in a different language. I was even like "well it can't possibly just be English because the text stays the same when you change the language setting" but uh. Nope. I guess just fuck you if you don't know English.
