Here's something the crossed my mind yesterday...

These idiots show up like the entire Seireitei wasn't mourning, claiming that defending it wasn't their job, (which I call bullshit...) being noisy assholes, being rude and disrespectful to everyone around...

And then, they take away (by breaking in the 4th squad, may I remind you...) Renji, Rukia and Byakuya.

It all rubs me the wrong way and made me hate Squad Zero with a fucking passion!

By I was thinking about Kirinji and Uhohana's interaction....

What if this reason was a lie? What if Kirinji is just taking advantage of Unohana's emotional disarray over seeing the Seireitei ravaged, having just lost Yamamoto and probably already knowing she's about to face Kenpachi and all that entails?

He plants the seeds of doubts about her healing abilities, he "offers" his "help" and in the meantime these people who are shady as fuck now have a hold on the four people who are the closest to each other.

THESE are a tight knit team!

And you may think "Well, they're going to recover together, train together, fight together.", right....?

Except we know they don't!

The first thing they do is separate Renji and Ichigo from the other two (still recovering, I know...) and then as @mondengel already explained beautifully in a previous post, they reach Nimaya where Renji and Ichigo get very different treatments that is probably engineered to break the latter even more.

After that, poor Ichigo is thrown into Ichibei's hands and completely cut aside from the other three. ( with his mind filled with doubts and, probably, a certain dismay over being kicked when he was already down, while Renji got a pat in the back...)

We don't know, because we're not shown, but I think it's unfortunately implied that Ichigo's entire training his separated from Renji, Rukia and Byakuya...

Ichibei wants him to lose. Needs him to lose. He wants a new, more powerful pawn to encase in that crystal prison.

For that to succeed, the Kuchikis must be away from Ichigo, lest all of them together came to the conclusion that Squad Zero aren't interested in Ichigo's success.

It's only by absolute luck (for Ichigo) that Byakuya never loses sight of what and who really matters in this war, ending up by destroying Ichibei's plans by sending Rukia and Renji to the Soul King's palace to help Ichigo...

So, I think Squad Zero had planned to take those four people and try to drive and wedge between Ichigo and them... Because they could better control them close by.

It's just that they got unlucky by underestimating Ichigo, Rukia, Byakuya and Renji's attachment, trust and concern towards and between each other.

They also kind of forgot Byakuya is no fool...

All the Wen Remnants want is to live in peace until their dying day, WWX enables that by creating a massive barrier over the Burial Mounds that makes time move faster for those within it.

The Sects finally lay seige to the Burial Mounds and break the barrier, they are stunned to discover the Burial Mounds are now a lush thriving paradise free of resentment, the Stygian Tiger Amulet now merely a powerless and rusted trinket.

JC is the one who discovers WWX had been manipulating time but LWJ is the one who discovers Suibian, a first class spiritual sword, massively aged and used as a gravemarker alongside Chengqing (that now has flowers growing out of the holes) for her master who died hundreds of years ago.

It started small. A way to speed up the crops growing so everyone could eat. In injury that would have taken months to heal only taking an hour. Speeding up the Burial Mounds slow recovery until it became a place where life was possible again.

No one noticed at first. The days felt like they were passing by normally. Of course A-Yuan shot up so quickly, all children do. Of course their elders felt slow and ache with all the hard work farming demanded. But then one of the women had a late in life pregnancy in her early forties. Barely a month after finding out she was expecting she birthed a healthy nine month old baby boy.

Wei Wuxian had already been working on a way to stop what was happening but Wen Qing had gone to him and asked "Would it really be so bad to leave it? We don't know how long we have until the other sects come for us. Let the elders spend their last days in peace and let the children grow until they can defend themselves."

I saw fanfictions where Wei Ying was the secret son of Wen Rohan from the woman he loved. He recognized this and demanded him for himself (without explaining that this was his son), and the Jiangs handed him over to the beaten ones, believing that he was guilty. What if they go even further? Madame Yu is pleased to hand over the severed head of the "servant's son"...

Since secretlyevil! is popular this week, I propose secretly evil mxy finds a ritual for temporary possession expecting that WWX will do his thing and he’ll wake up in a year as the ruler of the cultivation world. Instead he wakes up in the jingshisleeping next to hanguang-jun. Your bet if he confesses or he tries to take over wwx’s postcanon life…

Mo Xuanyu wasn't expecting to wake up next to one of the most beautiful men in the world. He had sort of been expecting two or three beautiful women given all the rumors of Wei Wuxian before he died. He was by no means complaining of course!

A quick look around the room led to real disappointment though. He didn't know where he was, but the early morning light made it obvious that this was not the empire he had been expecting. A part of him had thought the Yilling Patriarch would take over Koi Towers since it was by far the most luxurious city in the known world.

Still, it was better then that thrice damned shed.

Now all Mo Xuanyu had to do was continue to play the part. He had no doubt that Wei Wuxian had built up an army for him to command. He just had to make sure no one got close enough to begin doubting his power. Hopefully Wei Wuxian didn't have a habit of showing off...

He began to climb out of bed, eager to see what the Yilling Patriarch had built for himself in the past year but was stopped by a strong arm around his waist.

Really though- he had to commend the Yilling Patriarch for his excellent taste in men! Hangung-Jun as a lover! That alone was worth losing his body for a year.

"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji said with a sleep slurred voice.

Mo Xuanyu didn't really think much of interacting with Hangung-Jun. The other man would at most be a concubine who no one would listen to if he noticed Wei Wuxian acting strangely. As tempting as the older man was, Mo Xuanyu was too excited to see his new empire to stay in bed longer.

So he scoffed and removed Lan Wangji's arm from his waist and said "Don't be so clingy, Hangung-Jun. I have better things to do."

The way Hangung-Jun's eye snapped open and locked on him made him realize that he had just made a mistake.

WWX dies after Sunshot Campaign Reputation Intact AU

Playing fast and loose with the timeline a bit, bear with me here.

It's almost perfect the Sunshot Campaign has ended, Jiang Cheng, Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian have returned to Lotus Pier.

Wei Wuxian sits outside overlooking the lake waving Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli off to bed to moonwatch a bit longer.

In the morning they find Wei Ying asleep in the same place they left him last night. Exasperated good humor fades into horror as they realise their brother isn't breathing anymore and had passed peacefully away in his sleep with a soft smile.

Visitors including the Lan, are turned away from Lotus Pier as Jiang Cheng checks that it wasn't a assassination. (it's not, Wei Wuxian body literally gave out on him because of the immense strain the Sunshot Campaign put him under).

The funeral is held privately at Lotus Pier and Wei Wuxian's tablet is added to the Family Shrine.

The first the Cultivation World learns of Wei Wuxian's death is at the Phoenix Mountain Hunt when Jin Zixun callously asks why the Jiang Sect are still wearing mourning attire and Jiang Yanli replies in front of every Cultivator at the hunt that the Jiang Sect is in mourning for the death of Wei Wuxian.

(Wen Qing encounters Lan Wangji and learns that Wei Wuxian is dead. Lan Wangji overhears her muttering that its her fault and pressures her for a answer. A answer she won't give unless Lan Wangji helps her rescue her brother Wen Ning...)

Wei Wuxian returns to a world that knows of his sacrifice (A concept that gives him hives) a brother ready to either whip him or hug him and Jiang Yanli and her husband Nie Huisang who both want him to investigate the truth behind the murder of Nie Mingjue and Jin Zixuan and expose Jin Guangyao.

Because ironically Wei Wuxian has the best reputation of the lot of them having died a hero and willingly endured a Golden Core Transfer Surgery as the donor. Lan Wangji's reputation took a nosedive when he rescued the Wen Remnants and barely survived the Propaganda storm of rumors by the Jin for opposing them by going into seclusion.

My #1 post of 2022

In those AU's where WWX allows himself to be purified to death by the Lan its often by LWJ who thinks he's helping and WQ knows beforehand, Here WWX is suicidal and has decided to make his death mean something.

What if WWX agreed to be purged of resentment in return for granting the Wen Remnants sanctuary then fully informed the Lan of what cleansing entailed? The Elders don't believe WWX because he's still agreed to undergo cleansing and they don't realise WWX is actively suicidal instead of lying. LWJ is conflicted regarding the issue and LXC steps in to perform Cleansing also sure that WWX is exaggerating, he's not exaggerating. How would the Lans react knowing that they assisted in WWXs suicide. How would WQ react after WWX lied to her about the the Lans requirements to take in the Wen Remnants, not knowing that he'd tricked them into killing him thereby forcing the Lans to take in the Wen Remnants and protect them out of duty and guilt at accepting such a twisted agreement.

I like this one.

Lan Wangji was really the only one who unquestioningly believed Wei Wuxian when he told him that the ritual would likely kill him. He was immediately telling Lan Xichen that they needed to make a new deal and find a different condition to take in the Wens because he wasn't willing to risk Wei Wuxian's life. Lan Xichen speaks to the elders and they all convince him that this was just the Yilling Patriarch trying to weasel out of being purified and purged of the resentful energy that makes him so powerful. Lan Xichen believes the elders and doesn't trust Wei Wuxian but he does have a talk with him to try appeasing Lan Wangji.

During their talk Wei Wuxian sort of nonchalantly says 'yeah the chances of me dying are super high but if this is what the Lan clan wants then so be it' and Lan Xichen is like 'ok I'm still pretty sure your lying because no one would be this casual with their life so this is a go, but Wangji won't be happy about it.'

Wangji is Very unhappy about it. He tries to stop the ritual and fights a lot of his own clan before he is subdued and dragged away for his own punishment. Wei Wuxian feels super guilty and regrets telling Lan Wangji.

The ritual happens and Wei Wuxian ends up very very dead. Lan Xichen has a crisis because 1) he just killed a man, 2) he was warned that his actions would cause this, 3) he kneeling chose to ignore these warnings, and 4) that man happens to be the love of his brothers life. Some of the Lan elders try to argue that Wei Wuxian tricked them so they shouldn't have to fill their end of the agreement and take the Wens in but Lan Xichen shuts that down fast.

Lan Wangji is told that Wei Wuxian is dead and his heart breaks. Lan Xichen begs for forgiveness but Wangji isn't really in a forgiving mood. He ensures Wei Wuxian has a proper burial and goes into seclusion, planning to stay there for the rest of his life.

I TRY TO... In practice it mostly happens 6 months later. Sometimes I give up on entire fics because I don't want to only respond to some comments, and if someone comments on more than one fic I don't wanna spam them! T___T so I want to reply to only one of theirs. but this again makes it look like I'm only replying to some ~> endless loop of stress omfg... my heavens this is a science

what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

grouping these together because I have no idea. so much of my writing is for others so I doubt anything truly angsty is in there, since people rarely like it. and EYE hate super happy endings, so that probably hasn't happened either.

do you get hate on fics?

no, because I'm perfect. (I don't think I've written for any fandom that's prone to leaving hate comments.)

do you write smut? if so, what kind?

sure! but only 11 of the 67 fics have an M or E rating for sexual content, so not often. As for what kind... I don't know? I'll try anything once! The closest thing to a real answer I have is that I find F/F smut easier to write than M/M & I'm NGL, I'll take any opportunity to write (imply) stone tops, because it's something I always wish there was more of.

do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you've written?

Only once! It's actually the one thing I feel too embarrassed to write... alienselffucking is okay, but I draw the line at making people aware I like my faves meeting my other faves!

have you ever had a fic stolen?

The only ship that has ever made me monofannish for a little bit though was Magnus Bane/Alec Lightwood from Shadowhunters TV show, which at the time felt very random (that is NOT a high quality tv show), but now it does kind of make sense

I HATE THIS QUESTION. I don't know! I think I'm solid in many areas & not yet exceptional in any (but I believe in me! One day!)

Prose economy is the thing I pride myself most in, I guess. Running on implication rather than explanation. I also like to think I'm good at understanding lots of different character motivations.

what are your writing weaknesses?

My heavens x100. Can't write anything long. The prose economy thing bites me in the ass often -- paragraphs read clunkier than they should & there are some things that DO need explaining. The fact that I have an ego the size of Jupiter and believe that nothing will stay a weakness, even if it takes me 30 years to fix it. I can't write humour. I can't write tropey, "fun" fic. I'm slow, like VERY slow. Like 200 words an hour slow. I can't write "iddy" fic. I can't write without having an ending in mind. I can't write if I don't have a point in mind. I can't write if I don't read at least 20 pages of prose I enjoy beforehand. I don't think my dialogue sucks but I don't think it's good either.

thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If the character mixes languages, I'm in favour! I don't much like it when the words are italicised or have their first letter capitalised, though -- I'm always against anything that marks a word or culture as "the other". Also sometimes the sentences end up profoundly unserious, a la "Today I joined my Abuela to go to the Mercado to buy some Berenjenas."

So, I was playing the Lost Agent Arc on BBS on Hard Mode (for the orbs mainly...) and I had a stupid idea...

... which my son fully supported and went further with it...

What if all of that different Reiatsu somehow sticks to Ichigo permanently? Let me explain...

Think My Hero Academia and Avatar.

But instead of Ichigo being able to use the Shinigami that poured their Reiatsu into the sword's powers, it's more like a remnant.

Whenever he goes by the streets of the Seireitei, if people didn't recognise his overflowing reiatsu already, now they feel hints of the others in him.

And the lingering Reiatsu reacts!

Especially towards the Zanpakuto spirits from each donor.

Imagine Byakuya and Ichigo training together. They go to the Sokyoku Hill, because:

1. Memories...

2. They can both go Bankai and no one gets hurt.

Except...

Senbonzakura circles Ichigo leaving Byakuya surprised.

He chalks it up to emotional attachment because, after all, Ichigo is Byakuya's boyfriend...

Except it happens again. This time with Hyorinmaru! Everyone starts commenting something about "Of course Hitsugaya's Zanpakuto also doesn't want to hurt Ichigo! After all Karin could get annoyed at him..."

No one thinks about it for too long.

Until the third time it happens!

Now, Kenpachi's Nozarashi isn't supposed to have any emotional attachment to Ichigo. And just like her wielder, she loves to fight and is bloodthirsty.

So, something's happening.

It takes Mayuri to find out the stronger Reiatsu from the Captains lingered on Ichigo's own Reiatsu and now the Zanpakuto spirits recognise it as a fragment, a remnant of their own selves and refuse to attack the boy, even in training.

By the way @mondengel ... My son was like "Oh you need to tag Mondie on this post!" (it's how we call you at home.)

summary: a short jyl pov introspection on families. marriages, and arguments within them. quite tragic due to the nature of the jiang family, but insightful and worthwhile for her perspective on the family, which we don’t see as often as wwx and jc’s. I love her

summary: the third work in a yiling matriarch jyl AU. we see snapshots from jyl’s childhood, her mother’s use of a mysterious technique on her, the massacre at lotus pier, and the aftermath. the writing style was intense and compelling, and I really love how this author maintained jyl’s canon personality while making her an interesting and rich pov character and protagonist

I spent most of this fic crying very gently….the lp massacre always hits me hard, and jyl thinking about her life/what she wants but thinks she’ll never have is also quite tragic. this series apparently has a happy yanqing ending, and you can see the subtext here for it. cql canon.

The Taming of the Resplendent Fowl by natcat5

summary: another work in the series that began with Stray Dog’s Parable (linked below). jyl pov during the sunshot campaign, in all its grittiness and violence. I loved her characterization here - very true to her canon personality and disability, while allowing her depth and treating her as a person who matters.

it also explores jzx’s character and flaws. his has his own pov, which is really fun since he’s not too bright and the politics happen around him without his full comprehension. quite a funny chapter. unfinished, but that’s fine

the handling of the political situation is fresh and interesting, but it tends to repetition and pretension. there’s a few annoying lines in the beginning that kind of girlbossify myu, but overall a great work for characterization. technically either canon, but it has a novel flavor

warnings for references to wartime rape of young teenagers, and societal misogyny

summary: this is about jyl grappling with the loss of her home, and the friendship blossoming between her and lwj in the days immediately following the defeat of the wens. summary: immediately after wwx accidentally pulls off lwj’s headband in the novel, lwj stalks off and lxc goes to talk to him. this makes my heart feel like it’s being squeezed so tight, but in a good way. novel canon, but the emotion in it is so raw and the characterization is so compelling that I definitely suggest it for cql fans as well

summary: post-nightless, lwj tries to find erotica that he can enjoy in an effort to connect with his own sexuality and to feel closer to wwx. at a bit of a loss, he consults nhs. what follows is a genuinely quite beautiful and touching story about gay bonding, affirmation, and self-discovery. I like the writing style quite a lot, and I find the characterizations and dialogue to be natural and realistic. the discussion of kink, bdsm, and power-bottoming, using language that’s appropriate for the setting, is really fun too. novel-verse

unfortunately the wwx that crops up at the very end is so incredibly obnoxious that I pretend the work ends before he appears. how writers convey such beauty and subtlety with lwj and then cast wwx as a chaotic, whiny gremlin who shouts every line is beyond me

summary: post-nightless city, lwj wanders and grieves and sees visions of wwx throughout the years. this is quite a raw work with a lot of pain in it, but it’s also very cathartic and there are some very lovely scenes with other characters, like mianmian. novel canon

summary: the shortest and highest quality reconciliation fic I’ve ever read - efficient and impactful. postcanon, a (drunk) wwx must confront his relationship with jc when jl and lsz call each other cousins. the writing in this is just excellent

wwx and jc are impressively characterized, but jl and lsz are also written so well, in a way that actually got me to care about lsz. their generation breaking the cycles of violence is efficiently and effectively explored compared to fics that treat them as plot devices for shipping or getting wx together. funny, sweet, and very emotional - it made me cry. cql verse

summary: a nice little modern AU work where long-estranged jc and wwx come to an awkward reconciliation point over wwx adopting a-yuan. endorses the ‘jc is good with kids’ agenda, which I’m inexplicably fond of. also lwj is a museum curator in this, which I like a lot even if it’s just a throwaway line

summary: a short work on wwx and jc talking a little postcanon. this reconciliation is one of the few that doesn’t coddle jc or reward him for acting like an aggressive and immature dickhead, so I really liked their dynamic. wwx pushes back against jc’s treatment, points out how contradictory and irrational his demands are, and lays down boundaries, and their relationships improves because of it. wwx also has a very emotional aside thinking about and apologizing to his younger self that just ruins me. it’s a little hard to parse because of the style, but I really loved the characterizations

summary: here’s jc immediately after the gc transfer growing himself a tiny, loyal disciple army in the worst possible conditions. raw, unglamorous, and intense, just as it would be in real life. this jc is responsible and a much better leader than I think of him in canon, so he’s quite compelling to read. the atmosphere and tone are incredibly rendered. firmly novel verse in later works (not in a bad way, just very dark), but for this one, it could be either canon

I read two of the next fics in this series, but I think this one was the best. the later works edge towards pretentiousness and repetitiveness, but this first one is tight and cleanly written.

summary: a modern AU BM fix-it fic from jc’s pov about a curse that causes him to experience moments from songs on a playlist wwx had made in their childhood. goofy enough to veer into comedy, but it has some very nice family moments too, and I do love this jc (he is suffering) there are of course disclaimers: this jc is far more sensible and communicative than canon jc, and the idea of wwx listening to taylor swift pisses me off, but it’s a good time and a lot of fun anyway. and hey, happy ending

summary: a very funny modern cultivation au where jc is driving wwx and the juniors across the country (?) on a roadtrip, and they have to stay overnight at a very creepy hotel

apparently this was based on buzzfeed, but never having seen that I can only say this was a fun read that I could follow perfectly well

side note I don’t think the author cares about lwj at all because lxc was discussed more often he was even in relation to wwx, which is odd imo but quite funny
