Okay I woke up and heard about Tumblr+ and was not happy :(
So I wrote up this thing in like 3 hours with some crappy art and stuff just to get my thoughts out there of some way @staff can actually get some money without using @postplus, as everyone hates it.
If you have some ideas of your own or wanna draw some cursed pins you’d use go ahead!
(ignore all my spelling mistakes please, procreate doesn’t have spell checking)

Tumblr’s Post+ lets creators choose which content they want to put behind a paywall, whether that’s original artwork, personal blog posts or Destiel fanfic
Source: Tumblr is adding monetization options
DO NOT PUT YOUR FANWORKS BEHIND A PAYWALL. GETTING PAID FOR FANFIC CAN GET YOU SUED FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.
The only reason I’m saying “can” and not “will” is the chance that you don’t get caught but make no mistake this is a serious possibility

Wait the thing about tumblr premium is real????
It certainly seems like it, they call it Post Plus or some shit and it works with a monthly subscription fee to view monetized blogs (4-10 bucks idk) of which Staff will take like 40%
I hope Tumblr does not catch on to the foul disease this is and it dies like any other attempt to make money of this site but quite frankly Im a bit scared
also if people decide to make their blog premium not only will I see them as a class traitor and not only unfollow you but If we ever meet I´ll go feral on them like a rabid racoon

On Where The Line Is Drawn for monetising fanworks
https://www.fansplaining.com/episodes/86-the-money-question
Fansplaining Episode 86: The Money Question — Fansplaining The Discourse Trilogy™ Part 3: On the monetization of fanfiction, from AO3 to Wattpad
so this is a good read on it and the double standards
generally tho copyright law says you cannot monetize ANYTHING that is not in the public domain, especially in the US
people who create fanart and sell it, whether as prints, or patreon, or whatever - they technically shouldn't be and could be opening themselves up for a cease and desist at the LEAST, especially if you are in the fandom of anyone sue-happy (mostly Disney)
the reason Ko-Fi is 'okay' is because you aren't getting paid FOR CONTENT, you are getting donations
but legally commissions for fanart and fanfic are a no-no
fanart SOMETIMES gets picked up on, but fanfic is a VERY grey area because of AO3 (and OTW)
OTW is the one of the only organisations that argues FOR fanfic, and one of their big arguments and the reason we HAVE them advocating for us legally is that it is not monetized
when you monetize it, copyright comes into play a bit, because companies can argue. which is why Ko-Fi and Patreon is not allowed to be linked, and sometimes?? i'm not sure, but shouldn't even be mentioned on AO3, because otherwise they can't advocate as easily and it's not like they've got endless amounts of money to advocate for us. we don't HAVE enough people advocating for us as is, so it's a Big thing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_issues_with_fan_fiction
on the copyright side of things, wikipedia is right:
Fanfiction has encountered problems with intellectual property law due to usage of copyrighted characters without the original creator or copyright owner's consent. Fan writers who argue that their work is legal through the fair use doctrine use specific fair use arguments in the context of fan works, such as: Fan works do not deprive the owner of the source material of income Fan works may work as free advertisement and promotion of the original source material Fan works are usually non-profit. Fan works do not copy, or attempt to substitute for, the original work.
those are the Four Main Points of why fanworks are Allowed to work under fair use. when you remove "non-profit" you... don't have fair use and your argument weakens and that's when they go "well you violated copyright"
(legally, i do not know if an author saying "yeah! you can make transformative works of my media!" allows for-profit fanworks, but i highly doubt any will for some years anyway)
if anyone has any updated information or links to add, please reblog and spread more information to others!

Top 5 best native advertising networks.
Top 5 best native advertising networks.
Unlike the past, many publishers and bloggers have now ventured into native advertising networks. The native ads have many advantages over other traditional advertising systems. One advantage of native ads is how it blends with the site content. Therefore, a reader will be able to go through those ads without noticing they are advertisements. Moreover, native networks will enhance the chances of…

Modetising
Thanks everyone for the kind comments in the tags and with reblogs! It means the world to me when my mod is put out there to other fans and I’m really excited to get it to a point where I can release it.Someone mentioned the idea of there being a market for this mod. This is an idea that has been floated to me a couple times by now, online and off. I have given it a lot of thought. To this, I will say:It is a labour of love. It is something I am doing because I love the games, I love the fandom, I love the fictional entity that is Jeff, and the fictional entity that is Shepard. The Hatboy Project and anything I do related to it will always be 100% free. There will never be any “different levels” of experiencing this mod gated by any cost. All you will need is to own the base game, a connection to the Internet, and a PC to play it on.When the mod is released on the Nexus, I will enable “Donation Points.” If people really like the mod and want to support its creation when it is released, then they are welcome to donate to it through the site.During the long road of its creation, I mean... if you want to support the time I invest into this, you are welcome to.
I set up a Ko-Fi thing, if you want, but please, feel no obligation. The project is proceeding as scheduled, I never really gave any serious thought towards this aspect of it when I set out to make it, and it does not depend on donations or anything else to succeed. I am not looking into making profit out of this. But, hey if you want to support my caffeine habit, which does actually help my efforts on this - With the UK in lockdown for a while longer, I like to go on a short walk every day to the coffee shop that’s still open and get myself something. I then turn that caffeine-based treat into work on this. It’s good to get a little bit of exercise and I always think best when I am moving and listening to tunes! That would be nice! But no pressure, please! We are all in a difficult place this year. Speaking of, I think I am off to get one. I am going to need some fuel if I’m going to rewrite the entire mod’s TLK and make and categorise custom String Refs for each node. It is exactly as technical and a pain in the ass as you think it is just from that sentence.

I am sorry, I just woke up and found out that Tumblr wants to introduce a paid subscription? Okay... Does this mean that NSFW posts are going to be back? Are the sex workers going to be able to use the platform to earn their money through a subscription the site implements? You know, since people that are subscribing are going to have to have a bank card and would have to be over 18? No? Then fuck off with this bullshit.

Perversely, I almost have to admire all those mobile VNs where you always know which dialogue option leads to the good ending because clicking it costs a buck ninety-nine. Like, at least they’re not making any effort to conceal the nature of this relationship!

Doing a couple of hours of paid research in December 2019 I was reminded how many formerly free things are now behind a paywall.

I get that you have to monetize your videos. It takes time to make them and I respect that. But can't you control the kinds of ads you allow on your videos? It's very frustrating to try to watch a lyrics video and have an ad pop up out of nowhere.
I do not monetize my videos. I can't because I use music and video clips that do not belong to me. Some of the companies that hold the rights to the music or the clips I use monetize my videos for their own gain and unfortunately no I have no control over that.
(I use Lucifer tags because I need people who are interested in my content to see this)

You can hate Post+ as much as you want but YOU DO NOT GET TO HARASS PEOPLE FOR USING THE FEATURE.
People are just trying to survive in this capitalist hellscape. Contact your local politicians about improving social security and funding for the arts and so on, and leave struggling content creators the fuck alone.

Authors who do or have previously discouraged fanfiction of their work.
Also note that JK Rowling hates HP erotica, and has sent out cease and desists in the past (here's one in 2003). Note that this has similar wording to the anti movement:
There is plainly a very real risk that impressionable children, who of course comprise the principal readership of the Harry Potter books, will be directed (e.g. by a search engine result) to your sexually explicit web site, which you will appreciate most right-minded people would consider wholly inappropriate for minors. Plainly the warnings to the effect that children under 18 should not access your website do not in fact prevent minors from doing so. Indeed, such warnings may well serve simply to entice teenagers to your site.
She has also allowed fanfiction (2009) under the condition they:
are not sold and it is made clear she was not involved in the stories. She also requested the follow-ups do not contain pornography or racism.
Which may explain why SO many HP fics specify the latter.

i’m thinking tonight about masterpieces. michelangelo looked at the sixtine chapel and saw; nothing to preserve. virgil wanted his aenid burned and forgotten; only to be saved at the behest of an emperor who thought it flattery. kafka instructed his friend to burn everything he’d ever written - too personal was it, too unfinished.
they were ignored.
instead, their work was taken and held and published and thrown to be gawked at. instead, an emperor, a pope, a friend, took from within the cavities of them their choices; their art.
tumblr rolls out post+. twitter rolls out tip jars. youtube takes half of what creators earn. on social media, there is a ko-fi or a patreon and a polished face in every bio. i show my poems to my mother and she asks if I will publish them before she says anything else. emily dickinson instructed her sister to burn her poetry.
her sister did not listen.
we are a community, says tumblr, we should give back to creators. my last poem had 50 notes. six of those were reblogs that weren’t mine. i lie in bed at 2am and stare at my bright phone screen and the way netflix’s library grows thinner and thinner. the first ad on tumblr that i can reblog is for amazon. amazon takes more than half of what authors earn.
kafka’s friend took barely finished work and hammered it into structure. he is the only reason we know of him.
my father wrote a book and a play when I was barely big enough to reach his knees. when i try to talk to him about writing, he shrugs.
no one wanted to publish it, he says. so i don’t write anymore.
i am filled with poems I have never published, books I haven’t written. There are little snippets of them scattered throughout my life. I link to my ko-fi on my tumblr.
-
asked capitalism of the artist: what is art, if not for consumption? who does art benefit, if it is not consumed? why create at all if you do not market it? who are you, frothing at the mouth about someone publishing someone else’s poems? who are you to hate your magnum opus? what is art, if not in relation to its reception? if no one sees it, how is it art?
said the artist, baring their teeth: it’s mine.

Increasing publisher monetisation by stepping into the OTT market
OTT advertising is a new perspective that is reshaping the paid media landscape By Amitt Sharma The successful launch of new streaming apps has changed the viewing landscape. Viewers today are flocking to a variety of mediums available to watch live as well as on-demand content. The pandemic changed the way people consumed media.
