Thinking about how, thanks to LBD and her possession of SWK, we now have confirmation that every single fight that we have see Sun Wukong in... he was holding back.
When he fought Macaque in the first season, Spider Queen during the ses 2 special, Nezha while he was trying to get the map, the Scorpion Demon too probably, (though he was a bit nerfed then,) he was not using even close to his real power. We have just now seen his real speed. He could have taken out Macaque in an instant when he first showed up, without endangering Mk. But he didn't.
Sun Wukong has incredible control over his strength and what's more, he doesn't truly want to hurt anyone.
The Samadhi fire is a weapon of mass destruction, but we see it burn away LBD's hold--the chains--from Macaque without killing him. If you're a powerful being, or even just someone with power and the one in control of the power doesn't want to hurt you and they have enough control over it, chances are it's not going to kill you.
SWK's Master, his mentor, his friend is gone, but his lessons in compassion remain. He wanted to defeat the Lady Bone Demon. Never once did he say kill until the end.
The old Monkey King's go-to was to kill. It was easy, he didn't really see what was wrong with it, it sure got rid of the problem faster. This Monkey King? After JTTW? ...Killing is his absolute last resort.
Monkey King left to find a way to defeat the Lady Bone Demon without killing her. And when that failed, only then did he confront her. He had the power to kill her all along, had the power to kill all of them, he may have been slightly nerfed at times, but like... at the end of it all, hurting people is the last thing he wants to do. And he did everything he could to prevent that being the action he had to take.
In the end he failed though. And thats when he fell to his last resort. And maybe he regretted it a little bit because if he'd just killed her in the first place none of this would have happened. But his time with Tang Sanzang taught him value life and value compassion. Even at his own expense. Kinda like Mk at times.
Just me throwing some thoughts around o7

Another Shadowpeach fic wip
((SEASON 3 SPOILERS MENTIONED!!!))
((Have another shadowpeach prompt of mine that makes no sense, this one having taken place, during a party the gang had at redsons home to celebrate getting rid of lady bone demon. Macaque and Wukong, finally nearly got to have a much needed talk about the past. but as usual. someone interupped it. leading to this- fanfiction wip)
Macaque pushed her hair back gently, tucking it behind her ear before using the clip to clip it neatly in place, his care seeming like such a natural gesture as he crouched down a little bit to be at her height,
“Alright kid, I am gonna need you to slow down all right? I can't understand what you are saying when you don’t even stop to catch your breath all right?” he mused, eyes quickly looking over her to check for any type of scratches or damage, but when he saw none, his shoulders seemed to relax, his hand now pressing down on her head and messing up her newly fixed hair once again.
The gentle look in his eyes not being missed by one, Wukong, who was for a moment reminded of how gentle Macaque could be, of how despite his relaxed attitude and careless ways, he had at one time, seriously considered becoming a mentor, or a guardian of some sort.
That he was and still clearly is someone who held a warm regard for children. It was a part of the demon, that once filled Wukong with a sense of adoration, that made his stomach flip and twist, as he watched Macaque play with the young monkeys on the mountain each spring. And to his absolute disdain, it still did. Watching the care, he took when talking to the kid, and how careful his touches were, as if one wrong move would accidentally make the girl run away in fright.
Wukong, felt his nose twitch, an agitated habit he had, as for a moment he was reminded- of how Macaque used to be with him..., Wukong quickly shook his head, ridding himself of such thoughts, he did not need to remember that right now, he was too busy trying to ignore the small twinge of annoyance he felt at seeing such an honest smile of Macaques face once more.
Bai Anhe, who had interrupted their discussion, was now bouncing on her toes, the young girl who was once possessed by Lady Bone demon, still held traces of what had transpired, such as the white streaks through her jet-black hair.
“Mr. Macaque! It is already 11.30! Miss.Lyina will be checking the rooms soon!” she urged anxiously.
The dark monkey blinked for a moment, as though trying to recall what was so important about Miss.Lyina checking the rooms of the foster home, before he realized- right! He had snuck the kid out for this party! Cursing under his breath he gave the girl a nod,
“That time already? Alright kid, grab your stuff, and we can get going”
She gave a nod and scampered off quickly, leaving Macaque standing there, watching her disappear into the crowd, before slowly turning to look back at Wukong. His hand reaching up and scratching the back of his head awkwardly, as he tried to find words to say,
“i-… the kid- so you know I gotta-”
“Go?”
“Right! Right- yes go- so, will we?-”
“i would like that-”
“Good- good so uh- see Ya around?”
Wukong gave a nervous laugh
“ya! Of course! See you around... bud. “
And thus, any chance of them having that talk... was lost. Once again.
The night air was cold, a chill blew through the gardens ruffling the dark fur of Macaque, beside him a young girl stood, bundled up in a warm coat and holding onto his sleeve tightly, as she awaited their departure.
Pausing, Macaque chanced a glance back, eyes finding the large window that overlooked the garden, the mere scale of the window making all those inside look like dancing figurines in a music box rather than actual people, He watched as the ballroom was full of life, the dull sound of chatter still being heard from where he stood, but what he was searching for was the lone man who stood before the window, peering down, and making eye contact with the dark furred Macaque, Those golden eyes still managing to stand out from so far away, Macaque felt his breath hitch having those eyes staring at him, but out of politeness and perhaps a small bit of delight he gave a polite nod, before finally taking a step back and dropping into his shadow below, Leaving the lively party behind and leaving the monkey king to stare at the spot Macaque once stood.
Wukong would be lying if he said the night had not surprised him, he was expecting something completely unpleasant, something awkward and uncomfortable, especially when Mk had left both him and the shadow manipulator alone.
He would also be lying if he said, there was not a dull ache in his chest that started the moment Macaque had slipped away, when he was out of Wukongs reach, and his scent was all that was left.
Wukong still recalled the warmth of having the other beside him, how Macaques fingers had brushed against his sleeve, and how they had stood close enough that their tails accidentally touched.
It was only something small, something casual and accidental, but having Macaque so close reminded him of the old days, reminded him of everything they once had, and everything they never could have in the same way again. Time and history had changed them, as it changed many things, but the one thing it could not change. Was the heart. As annoying as that was. And how thinking such a thing made Wukong cringe at the mushiness of the statement. Honestly if time could change his heart, then Wukong was sure everything would have been much easier now.
Since the fight with Lady Bone Demon, they were more civil, sure, but there was always a third party of some sort with them or between them. Someone was there to break the ice.
Wukongs palms still burned from where he had caught Macaque earlier in the night, from when he acted without thinking and his reflexes kicked in, when the monkey had slipped, and Wukong had grabbed him by the waist without thinking, feeling the warmth the other constantly radiated, despite his whole thing being the darkness and the shadows, yet... when all this was said and done, Wukong knew the truth.
That this encounter would just make the night colder for when the Monkey king inevitably would have to return home, when he would trudge through the mountains alone, and face plant into his bed, into the sheets that were supposed to be comforting.
He sighed, turning away from the window, and taking a sip from his drink.
Ya, He was not getting any sleep tonight.
Memories were the worst of it. They haunted him in his dreams when he was awake, He could never escape them. Worst of all is that he felt taunted, with Macaque right in front of him, yet still so much distance, distance that could easily become shorter if they just- talked! talked about what happened, what the past entailed, about what went wrong, hell! Wukong was sure that even something as flimsy as an apology would be enough for the shadow monkey to lower one of his many walls, and it's not that Wukong did not want to apologies- he did, God he did, but-…. He just did not know where to start. How to go about it. And anytime he was about to, the words seemed to get stuck.
His pride would never let him.
I mean, he had blinded and killed Macaque, someone he had once claimed was his sworn brother, his best friend! And as the monkeys on the mountain would tease... his other half. As bad as it was, to immortals like them, something like- killing the other was forgivable, with time of course. their morals had always been rather- different than the mortal standard of morality, and Wukong was definitely a different person back then, before the journey to the west, before his master taught him the ways of Buddhism before he- killed Macaque. So, if anyone could understand how Wukongs anger had gotten the best of him, it would be Macaque.
Macaque
Macaque
The name rang in his head for hours each day, ever since he had returned from the dead, and even more so now that they were back on speaking terms.
If Wukong could have things his way, he would push the past behind them, and move forward with a clean conscience, but- … then he would remember the way Macaque had looked at him. When Mei had lost control of the Samadi fire and MK refused to leave her, refused to leave his best friend. He remembered the look of hurt Macaque had when Wukong looked back to him, the feelings of betrayal and pain in those eyes as well as regret and guilt. Before he had disappeared into his shadow... so no. Pushing the past behind them was not an option.
