#monster biology is funky

ok idk why i did the poll thing you're getting a rant about magic in monster hunter. So first I want to specify a seperation between "magic" in monster hunter, and just funky monster biology. There are absolutely some monster abilities, like spines and Rath fireballs, that are just kinda funky biology and are generally mundane. Conversely, there are also many abilities like kirins summoning lightning out of midair, kushala with it's tornado manipulation, and many others that really make it difficult to consider them being a mundane, biological source. This is where the magic of monster hunter kicks in. Magic in monster hunter is a lot more subtle in monster hunter than it is in many other series. It's not wizards casting Nuclear Meteor (unless it's a monster), it primarily crops up in the forms of Alchemy and Enchantment magic style. Hunters harness magic when the parts from monsters are then utilized to create equipment that is imbued with the properties from the monster, or when simple crafting materials are used to create the consumables that can do such insane things as pulling you from the brink of death in a second, causing you to passively regenerate, and an insane number of other things. First I am going to discuss the magic that monsters use. For this I'm primarily discussing World magic, as it's my primary game and explains it quite well (for a mh game) in my opinion. In World they discuss a material called "bioenergy" that flows through monsters and ESPECIALLY elder dragons, who coincidentally are also the monsters that are generally the ones doing the random monster magic, and also are the ones that have the most magically enchanted armors. The elder dragons in question are able to generate and weaponize the magic, performing such insane feats as firing beams of pure vibrations, causing near nuclear explosions, summoning tornados, and many other insane things. Non elder monsters are still certainly able to use and harness bioenergy, however they usually either use it to a lesser degree, while supplementing their skill sets more with weird mh biology. So to summarize, bioenergy is:
• in higher densities in the monsters with more magical abilities
• has a physical form that can be collected and utilized
• is something that hunters are aware of and can utilize
Next I am going to discuss the elements in monster hunter. Most elements are just "normal" elements, however there is a specific element called "dragon" element. This dragon element is seperate from thunder, ice, fire, and water int he fact that it's not representing some normal state of matter or other mundane thing, instead seeming to be pure energy (or perhaps bioenergy). Dragon element is also more effective on elder dragons, even causing them to destabilize in certain situations. Last but not least, I am going to discuss the enchantment magic involving the equipment in monster hunter. First there is the simple fact that we are able to utilize the materials of these monsters, and then imbue otherwise mundane weapons with elemental abilities. Note that while there are also ailment weapons such as poison and paralysis, these can be more easily explained by more mundane functions. By covering a sword in the pelt of a Kirin, it is able to unleash raw electricity with every swing, never reducing in energy or effectiveness. The second part is the actual function of some of these weapon classes. While a greatsword or a hammer is generally straightforward, you soon begin to see these magical effects coming into play with other weapon classes, which has a couple examples such as: • Switch axe and charge blade being able to hit a monster of any type, and build up elemental damage "phials" or "gauges", which can then be used to consistently cause pure elemental explosions of varying strength. Charge blade specifically is able to cause waves of pure elemental energy from these hits • Hunting horn being able to play notes in a certain order than can cause varying effects from increasing attack damage, to ignoring wind pressure, to even restoring health. • Bow and bowguns being able to fire projectiles that unleash charges of pure elements upon contact with a monster. • Insect glaive being able to effortlessly fly and double jump through the air, without any visible forms of propulsion. Finally I'm going to discuss the armor and decorations in monster hunter. By crafting armor and decorations out of the remains of monsters, hunters are capable of imbuing themselves with effects ranging from hitting a little harder, to increasing damage when the monster is angry, to entirely negating hunger, to constantly passively regenerating, and an insane number of other effects. While a couple of effects might be explainable via mundane means, most of these are almost certainly some form of enchantment. so yeah. There's magic in monster hunter.

Synopsis: Dylan Lenivy never thought he would present as a werewolf, but due to a distant relative having been one, he gets tested at the age of 18. His parents, overwhelmed and distraught at finding out their son is a werewolf, send him to Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp for Wayward Wolves in hopes that the program will help him adjust to his new reality. Little does Dylan know, he might make the best of it and form a pack (and find a mate) along the way.
Chapter 1: Welcome to Hackett’s Quarry
Dylan felt the vibrations of the large shuttle’s window rock his skull against the cool glass, music turned low in his now far more sensitive ears. He wished his mom and dad had dropped him off, instead of some stranger in a rickety old small bus.
It was impossible to think about what the next two months would mean for Dylan. He was ever the optimist, full of wonder and excitement but that all changed when his test results came back the last month of school.
He’ll never forget the look of horror on his mother’s face, her mouth contorted in something close to fear and his father’s eyes full of disappointment as they looked up from the piece of mail that now defined Dylan’s life. None of his weird science experiments, rants about quantum physics, funky antics, or even that wolf tattoo (which he now hated the double meaning of) had put those expressions on their faces.
The odds were so low, they had cried and wailed. He only had one distant great uncle that was a wolf. Not their Dylan, not their little boy. Their exasperation, their fears and rambles...it made it impossible for Dylan to process that this was his life now. That this was who he was. He wasn’t allowed to feel anything, because they didn’t give him the space to.
No, he was shipped off to here, so they wouldn’t have to face the reality of their only son, only child, being a monster. Dylan swallowed hard as the wooden sign came into view. He tugged off his earbuds and quickly put them and his phone inside one of his bags.
‘Hackett’s Quarry Camp for Wayward Werewolves’ the old wooden sign said proudly. Apparently the head of the camp is an actual werewolf himself, but that was all Dylan could manage to read and process when his parents had handed him the brochure before he cracked a joke about being put in a dog kennel, left for his room, and threw it in his bedroom trash.
“We’re here.” The driver said coldly. The shuttle had parked in front of a large, wooden lodge, the parking lot small and barely paved. There was nothing but wilderness - trees, plants, forests, and open water - surrounding the place. It would almost be refreshing, had Dylan not know he was basically here because he was wrong, he was other.
“Uh, yeah, thanks, man.” Dylan exited the shuttle in a hurry, feeling the driver’s eyes glare into the back of his head. He took in a deep breath and whipped around, glaring at the driver. “I know I’m handsome, but I think I’m a little young for you. Creep.” He slammed the door shut before marching up the front steps in a huff, already annoyed. Screw the ramifications. He was tired and angry.
His entire life had been flipped upside down and his parents decided to ship him off somewhere. And they didn’t even have the decency to say goodbye. He had woken up to an empty house, with a note wishing him best of luck and about when the shuttle was coming.
Fuck this day. Fuck his life. Fuck Hackett’s Quarry.
In his blind frustration, Dylan swung the front door of the cabin open and ran into another boy on the other side. He was shorter than Dylan, slender, with a cool, edgy look and dark clothes.
Totally Dylan’s type.
“Dude!” The other boy called out. “Really?”
“S-Sorry, uh...heh.” Dylan tried to help him stand fully upright again, but the other boy just brushed his hands off. “You know how us dogs are. Cooped up in the car too long and we gotta get that extra energy out.”
“Sure, man.” The boy said curtly, before walking around Dylan back outside to the front of the cabin.
Great. First. Fucking. Impression.
Dylan huffed and lugged his bag in with him, stopping in front of a row of wooden tables. There were labels with names on him, presumably all the newly found werewolves that would be attending the camp. It was a small group, only nine names, but Dylan wasn’t surprised.
Werewolves made up such a small percentage of the population, after all. Maybe if they were more common, places like this wouldn’t even have to exist. He barely had any lessons on werewolves from kindergarten through senior year. An odd historical figure here or there, but...not much else.
He flopped down on the chair with his nametag in front of him. The label next to his name said Abigail Blyg. Hmm. Abigail was a nice name. Maybe...maybe he wouldn’t flop with her like he did mysterious and handsome earlier.
Wow, he didn’t say much but his deep voice was nice. Focus, Dylan.
He was only alone for a little bit longer when people started to roll in, sitting at their respective spots. Some lucky bastards seemed to actually know people coming in. A jock with a petite chick who kept hounding him. A redhead with a gorgeous blonde, who Dylan was pretty sure were dating.
A few more trickled in, including Abigail who sat down next to him, nervously looking up before she focused on the folder on her desk. Huh, they all had one. Dylan was tempted to open his, in spite of the ‘do not open yet’ stick on the front.
“Uh, don’t think we’re supposed to open that, um, yet.” Abigail squeaked and Dylan couldn’t help but chuckle.
A teacher’s pet, huh? He could work with that.
“Oh, sorry, mom-” He pouted, closing the folder before either of them could read it. “...I’ll be good, promise.”
“No, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-”
“It’s fine, heh. No way you could be my mom, you’re actually talking to me.” Shit, another bad first impression. He was never usually this bitter.
“Oh, I’m sorry, uh...” Abigail seemed frazzled.
“No worries.” Dylan reassured her and instantly the girl with red and black hair seemed to relax.
“Let’s start over.” The girl said, voice a bit more relaxed and chipper. “I’m Abi.”
“Nice to meet you, Abi...” Dylan licked the back of his tag and slapped it on his forehead, earning a chuckle from Abi and a few others in the room. “...Dylan.” He pointed at the now stuck tag.
Before anything else could be said, mysterious and handsome rejoined the group and flopped down at the table with one of the blondes, Laura, and Kaitlyn. So, Ryan was his name, huh? Dylan tried not to stare as his eyes traced across the room, quickly working to memorizing everyone’s name.
Most had laughed at the stupidity of putting his tag on his head. Maybe, if he just kept this joking shit up and didn’t blunder like he did with Abi and Ryan, then...then it would be okay. And he could just get over these two months and go to college and only have to think about being a werewolf during the full moon.
Hmm, it was a little strange. The tables didn’t have the same number of people at them. He and Abi were the only two at their table, whereas there were two others with Ryan, then another table had four people - Nick the cutie, Jacob the jock, Emma the queen bee, and Max the magnificent. He did have pretty, dazzling eyes and Dylan couldn’t think of anymore of a clever word to try and memorize his name.
“Sooo...” He started awkwardly, addressing the broader room, but was quickly cut off by the front door opening. A man name in with the most stereotypical camp counselor getup on. Dylan actually snorted, but quickly grew silent as the man took steps to stand at the center of the wooden tables, eyes sweeping across the group of eighteen year olds.
“Welcome to Hackett’s Quarry, Hacketters!” His voice boomed and echoed throughout the silent lodge. It wasn’t unkind or angry, but it held some weight as the campers all stood at attention, waiting with bated breath. “Now, let’s get started!”

Hi, hope I’m not too late for this! Not really sure how to do this so sorry if I ramble.
Tumblr media
This is Fionn. He’s 400 years old but looks about 30. He’s a cryptid thing that lives in the dark but his species doesn’t have an official name. He’s Irish too but I don’t think that’s overly relevant.
He’s 7’0 tall and very skinny but a lot stronger than he looks. He has claws and fangs so is definitely capable of tearing out throats. He’s known for being very aggressive.
But despite his anger issues he’s just a pathetic little guy. He’s pretty easy to manipulate and very touch starved. As long as he’s kept out of dark spaces, he’s not too hard to overpower. He’s incredibly sensitive to light and loud noises.
"He's Irish" great so step one is playing 'God Save The Queen' on a constant loop over loudspeaker--
No, but there will be plenty of overstimulation in the form of loud noises and blinding lights to further disorient him. Fionn is a funky lad, meaning Malik is going to have fun vivisecting him like a class biology frog. First thing's first, he needs to have anything that might pose a threat to Malik removed so he can have all the fun he wants without risking injury. Those fangs? Yanked out with a pair of pliers. Those claws? Severed at the first knuckle so Fionn is left with bloody nubbins
Here's where it gets good: Being the talented videographer, as well as having to hold the occasional funeral service/burial during a storm or nighttime, Malik has a fair amount of box lights and flood lights on hand. All of these are put to use and angled directly at Fionn and boy, does the room heat up quick with all that high intensity lighting. Hopefully he'll be too dehydrated to sweat an ungodly amount because no way is Malik feeding him anything other than scraps from previous victims, like the freakish monster Fionn is.
If he thought the lighting was horrid, wait until Malik plays the most grating white noise he can find. It's easy for him to tune it out, but for Fionn? Maybe he can try to focus on the other awful noises instead, like the drill Malik to digging into the palm of his hand or the mini chainsaw going for his shins to "cut him down to size". The anger is fun, Malik hopes it'll stay until the very end.
Video Price: $24K

Oh i am glad you are willing to talk about monHun biology. Monster hunter stories is peculiar because due to mechanic even mammalian monster come out of the eggs, but its a good way to approach the series and get a good look at the creatures.
I am sure you have been informed of several dangerous insectivores and herbivores in this game, but did you there are also many who eat minerals? Uragaan is one of them and its dentature does look freaky when seen up close, but make lots of sense for the diet it has.
Although i am puzzled at how it can eat in the first place. Chin.
Other mineral eaters are Gravios and its juvenile form Basarios (but stories? Puts them as different monsters? So you can get a gravious straight from an egg?) But they don't seem to posses any peculiar dentature for it.
aren't there also egg-stealing quests in the main games though? do they actually restrict those to the ones that would more sensibly come from eggs??? at any rate eggs are whatever to me just 'cause that's like, the goto handwavey thing for games and stuff to do to be simple and Not Weird about reproduction. pokemon does it, flightrising does it, etc. it's not a Design Thing they put much thought or emphasis on yknow
i have not actually been informed of much! even so i would not mind being informed again lol. but yeah i heard there's geovorous[?] guys, dodogama apparently too. good for him. uruugan's teeth are hmmmm. flatt... i think there's like some kind of irl whale or ray that has Plates sorta like that but i don't remember right off. i didn't know that about gravios/basiros in stories though that's funky. i guess it falls under the same thing as getting the -drome guys direct from eggs too?? even without main-series knowledge i'm realizing stories is making a lot of.....odd choices with some stuff. anyways i'm willing to pass them off as a thing of like, they're already so huge and heavy and hard that the jaw doesn't need much additional reinforcement; its teeth looks pretty sturdily Set in there. or maybe they could just bash the rocks up with their tails idk.
I'M curious what dalamadur eats, and the wiki doesn't seem to say anythng about it. it's definitely, like A Snake, but there's no way anything that huge can reliably sustain on meat. i want 2 believe in my heart that it's a big funny worm that eats sand and shit as it burrows around, but those thin fangs would snap right off if it tried to do anything with rocks [neither are they much use for if it ate plants :pensive:]

hi hello nico you asked to learn about my d&d character and i am here to provide Information via a ramble because that's the way i know best how to convey information. i have a lot of feelings about this character so i will try to be concise, not sure if i'll succeed! i also don't know how much you know about d&d so i apologize if i over-explain something you already know.
so my character in this campaign is named eden linnaeus! he's a gay, trans, and autistic tiefling (funky part-demon fella), and class-wise he's an artificer (science magic <3) multiclassing into warlock (made a deal with a fucked up eldritch monster in exchange for power). i love him so so dearly and i'm a little (a lot) fixated on him right now.
where to begin with himmmmmmMMM. okay. i'll talk a little bit about eden's backstory because i was writing some extra details of that up and made myself sad.
so eden is the son of a prominent scientist named abdiel linnaeus, also a tiefling, who was like. not necessarily abusive but also not a good guy on any level. when eden and his brother michael were young, abdiel actually walked out on them and their mom and hasn't spoken to any of them since </3 (it's very much a case of like... abdiel had understandable motives (he essentially was leaving to find a cure for the illness his wife was slowly dying from, but he didn't really... communicate what he was doing and also never came back), but his actions are unforgivable.)
as a result of his dad walking out on them, eden grew up with a very warped sense of self worth and a constant lingering sense that something's wrong with him, that he's not enough for the people around him. the only real way he knows how to cope with that is by overcompensating and always trying to the best--he won't only be enough, he'll be the BEST. (no i'm not projecting <3)
pretty much the moment he was able to, eden threw himself into scientific studies, going into the same field as his father (essentially like... a mix of medicine, biology, and chemistry, which doesn't really have a name yet oops) with the express purpose of surpassing his father. eden's plan is to become the best and most known dr. linnaeus in this field, to completely destroy whatever legacy his father built.
and the way to do that was to take things one step further <3 a lot of abdiel's work focuses on combining magic and science, and one thing he did a lot of research into was the possibility of combining them for the purpose of reviving the dead. wahoo! necromancy! so well. i think it's clear what eden decided he would do <3 abdiel's work was very theoretical, and eden decided to put it to the test.
eden did successfully revive one person, but it was a bad time all around and the person didn't live for very long in their new life, spending the entire ten minutes in horrific agony before dying again! and eden was left with a new dose of trauma that only made his desire to prove he could do it even stronger.
in the main storyline of the campaign, eden essentially spent the rest of his life working towards the goal of usurping his dad, and his fixation on this was so bad that pretty much all of his close relationships fell apart, which only fed into his lack of self-worth and desperation to prove himself and be not only enough but The Best.
aaand then when eden was 28 years old, he died. the exact cause i'm intentionally leaving a bit ambiguous, but the point is that he died in his lab, working himself to the bone until the end.
aaand that's actually when the campaign starts!!! because the basic premise of the campaign centers around a group of characters who died and were brought to a purgatory world by a being that wanted to give them a second chance at life. eden and the others, after some Plot happened, said "fuck off" to the second chance, clawed their way back to the world of the living, and are now trying to find the cause of and stop the corruption slowly overtaking their world and killing people.
ANYWAY so there's more things but that's the basic rundown of eden!!! and now i'm gonna talk a bit more about him because i love him. i apologize for how long this is.
one of my favorite things about eden that i'm realizing as i play him is that he's actually incredibly self-sacrificing when it comes down to it. he comes off as a very egotistical, self-centered character who doesn't give a shit about anything except his own superiority. but oh no he actually is the first person to give up pieces of himself (quite literally in some cases) to help those he cares about. on some level this is very much a result of him wanting to prove himself as being worthy of others' attention and affection, but it's something i really like thinking about.
and another thing i like a lot with eden is that he has a very analytical approach to everything around him. he's very fun to roleplay in that aspect because he's very different from me there, and i love thinking about his thought process and how he approaches things.
and something else i've been thinking about is that i think eden is very low-empathy and that also plays into his struggles to relate to others and his difficulty in relationships. (both b/c i enjoy writing low-empathy characters, because they're so different from me and also because i want to personally fistfight the trope of "they have no empathy so they're EVIL and ENJOY CAUSING PAIN")
aaaand okay wait last thing. this is probably a whole 'nother rant but there's a ton of parallels between eden and abdiel and i'm so so excited for eden's character arc going forward because i really want to explore that more. the biggest insult someone could say to eden is comparing him to his father, but also it's not really. in accurate.
ok thank u for your time
first of all: i love him so much it's unreal
second: oh!!!! he and i are in the low empathy gang together!! fuck yeah!!
third: i LOVE that backstory. it sounds so painful and complicated and like it will lead to such a great arc :D
i am microwaving him in my brain ty for telling me about this blorbo

Is the soup so you already know some of mine but i’m still fond of weird monster biology. I.e. Camellia’s plantyness allowing him to not digest anything living since he only really eats because he needs nitrogen or certain nutrients he cannot get since he doesn’t have roots.
That or its just magic. Weird biology and magic. It be that way sometimes.
i was savin this ask for later but i love funky and interesting biology like that that can lend itself to interesting vore scenarios! especially if they’re based off of irl fun things (like camellia having venus flytrap physics but only a little bit)
magic is also always the best excuse. fuck it its magic i dont gotta explain shit

I am very shy but I wanted to know your opinion on mermaids that arent traditional mermaids! Like ones that are more monstery, and have less so 'human halves' that are more just.. humanoid shaped! I have been drawing many for mermay and I just remembered your blog and got v happy
LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!! Give me deep sea merfolk with too-big eyes and a mouthful of crystal teeth... give me transluscent deepfolk with bioluminescence who communicate only through flashes of light... give me goblin shark merfolk with alien jaws and large noses... give me giant squid merfolk who are a cryptid to their own kind... give me frilled-shark merfolk with crazy gills and teeth... give me 300 year old merfolk with super slow metabolisms - they grow to monstrous sizes and only need to eat once a year...
In short, yes. Monstrous merfolk are more than welcome here!!

Saiyan Biology Part 2
(Actual Info under the cut)
Teeth
Saiyan teeth are based partially on baboon teeth in that the canine teeth are notably larger than the rest of the incisors, although the rest of the incisors are also fanged, and suited for ripping and tearing.  However, their molars are still similar to those of most omnivores, and are used for chewing.  As a result, saiyans are classified as an omnivorous species, although they take the concept of eating everything to the extreme-for example, while a saiyan will gain little to no nutrition from eating stone or metal, they are technically capable of digesting materials commonly thought to be entirely inedible.  Saiyans tend to prefer meat because it is high calorie and high protein-both necessities for their biology- but they do require plant based nutrition for a rounded diet.  Their teeth are capable of cutting through bone, and their molars capable of grinding down tough woody stems.  A saiyan’s digestive system is equally robust, and capable of resisting most parasites and poisons found in food.  As a result, cooking is not a requirement for digestion, but most saiyans tend to have at least a couple foods they prefer cooked (or alternatively complex food items that require cooking to come together). Also, while not their primary food source, due to their incredibly large calorific requirements, saiyans on the battlefield will fall to eating the the bodies of their not-always fallen opponents (i.e. that one scene of Vegeta snacking on a random alien mook’s arm), which doesn’t help increase their intergalactic standing. Like some reptiles, saiyans are born with all their teeth and they exhibit polyphyodonty-if a tooth falls out, another will grow back in its place.  Despite the large size of most of their teeth, they are fully hidden by the lips.  Saiyan jaws tend to be larger and wider than those of most similarly sized mammalian species, and they have an incredibly strong bite force-although again, they are similar to crocodiles in that even a fairly small force stopping movement of the jaw will be an effective neutralizing method.
Half-saiyans retain the oversized canines, although the rest of the teeth are similar in appearance to those of a human.  Half-saiyans are born with canines, and the rest of their teeth grow in sometime between three to six months.  Apart from this, their teeth are similar to those are full saiyans, as are their digestive capabilities. Their jaws are larger than those of most full blooded humans, but not necessarily to the extent that their canine teeth will fit properly.  As a result its fairly common for the canine teeth to project outwards and protrude slightly past the lips.  This is entirely a cosmetic issue, and could theoretically be remedied by braces, although the issue of placing the braces for long enough remains an issue, particularly with the amount of facial trauma most saiyans go through, and also the problem of finding a dentist willing to stick their hand in that mouth.
Quarter saiyans, like half saiyans, retain most of the dental and digestive capabilities of a full blooded saiyan.  They have oversized canines, although not to the extent of full or half blooded saiyans.  Like human infants, they are born toothless; their canines grow in within the first couple of months, afterwards the rest of the teeth grow in between six to eight months.  They do have a set of baby teeth, but after those grow in they retain the polyphyodontic trait.

The pupil and iris of a saiyan have no differentiation, is ovular and elongated, and contracts and expands with the light (and, occasionally, emotion).  Their visual acuity is no better than a human, although their night vision is far superior.  Without the use of ki-energy, saiyan eyes possess tapetum lucidum- otherwise known as eye shine, which allows for vision in low-light activities; with ki-energy, a truer backlight is possible, allowing for some vision even in pitch-black environments.  In fact, the general environment of earth tends to be a bit bright for saiyan eyes, resulting in slit-like pupil/iris’s.  This is because saiyans originally evolved in a low-light environment from living under the canopy of their original forested planet (listen. listen.  You do not get monkey-based species without trees.  I do not know what was the saiyan origin planet in the main universe was, but I do not care, a rain forest type environment makes sense.), and later on the red sky of planet Vegeta was relatively dim compared the sky of planet earth.  Additionally, because they tend to gain power with the moon, saiyans are naturally at least partly nocturnal, which also plays a part in their keen night vision.  Saiyans also have sensory organs present in the inside corners of their eyes that allows them to sense heat energy of nearby organisms (i.e. that thing snakes can do? yeah kind of like that).
Half saiyan eyes are rather similar to those of a full saiyan, although the sensory organs are under-developed and unspecific.  Gohan is actually tremendously, horrifically blind without glasses nearsighted, although not as a result of an incorrect blending of human and saiyan genes or entirely as a result of eyestrain from reading.  Admittedly he did strain his eyesight throughout his childhood, because it didn’t get bad enough that he needed a book half an inch from his face in order to see it until high school, and he didn’t realize most people did not see the world in various states of blurry.  Luckily, saiyan and half-saiyan eyes are similar enough in function to human eyes that regular glasses do work.
In quarter saiyan eyes, the thermoreceptor organ is entirely absent, and pupils are more ovular even in day-light.  Otherwise they function much the same as full and half-saiyan eyes do.
Noses
A saiyan’s sense of smell is probably their most developed sense.  It is very sensitive, and capable of picking up minute differences in scent.  They are adept trackers by smell alone as a result.  That said, saiyans aren’t particularly good at blocking out potent smells, and overwhelming scents-particularly unpleasant ones-can be debilitating much as high pitched noises can be to a Namek.  Unlike humans, saiyan noses have diagonally set nostrils instead of downward facing ones, much like new world monkeys.  In half and quarter bloods, the angle of the noses shifts downwards with the addition of human blood, but otherwise the function remains the same
Body and Proportions
Saiyans tend to be stockier than the average human, and very much embody the idea of being built like bricks.  They’re a warrior race from a high-gravity environment, and they look it.  They have long torsos and longer arms, and a prehensile tail and prehensile feet from their arboreal ancestors (who were comparatively closer to modern saiyans than humans closest tree dwelling ancestors).  A saiyan tail, apart from its noted sensitivity to being yanked and containment of trigger glands for the Oozaru transformation, is also an important part of a saiyan’s balance.  Ki-energy can serve as a substitute, but without actively circulating energy, a tail-less saiyan has not insignificant balance problems.  As children, saiyans tend to lean more towards a quadrupedal stance, although it’s considered improper in higher echelons of Saiyan society.  As they grow older and proportions shift, they tend toward bipedality.  Unlike human primates, saiyans have retained claws instead of nails.
Half-saiyans have more variety in body shape, although they still trend to more solid builds (e.g. even Gohan, the person closest to being a twig of everyone with saiyan genetics, has fairly broad shoulders and a barrel chest).  Typically, the length of the torso, arms, and legs are more or less equal in length to each other.  Half saiyans retain the prehensile tail and feet, although they’re not quite as hairy as a full blooded saiyan would be.  Their nails aren’t quite claws, but they’re still thickened and come to a natural point.
Quarter saiyans have similar body shapes as half-saiyans.  Their proportions are close to human, although they’re noticeably off to a practiced eye.  The tail is thinner and shorter, but still present, and while the back of the foot is fairly human in shape, the feet are still prehensile.  Their nails are mostly blunt, but still thicker than a full blooded humans would be.
Due to the high gravity environment of both planet Vegeta and the original saiyan origin planet, saiyan skeletal and muscular structures are several times more dense than those of most humanoid species of comparable size.  This allows saiyans to hit harder and lift more than most species, assisting in part of their infamous power.  Their skin and most of their other organs are similarly tough-without energy circulation, they can still be harmed by mundane means, but it takes a considerable amount of force to result in damage (e.g regular hand guns or even a car crash wouldn’t amount to much more than mild discomfort, but something along the lines of a missile launcher would) On the flip side, the amount of energy required to maintain their dense physicality is incredibly large.  Even without much activity, around twenty to thirty thousand calories are necessary for a saiyan to function.  Strenuous activity and/or energy use increase the required calorie usage exponentially.  As a result, a saiyan can die of starvation in a matter of days.  The tough physicality and intense calorie requirements are considered dominant traits, and remain present in half and quarter saiyans.

Addison headcanon infodump
I'm a huge slut for xenobiology & xenosociology and over the last couple of weeks I acquired a few headcanons so why not infodump about them! Quite a lot of biology jargon here. These aren't in any particular order but I'll try to keep them organized somewhat:
It ended up being too long so i gotta slap a read more on this bitch
Ad-slots: addisons are based on ad slots, the banners on the margins of web pages. For this reason, they don't choose what they advertise; just how advertisers simply buy ad slots in websites, addisons just feel a certain calling to advertise something specific. They can't change what they advertise, which might fuck over addisons who got stuck with lousy product, like exploding cars.
Bird-aligned behavior: while they're nowhere near similar to birds in appearance (as opposed to swatchlings, who absolutely are), addisons have some bird-like behavior, specifically nest building instincts, egg-laying and the ability to immitate other things. More on that later.
Funky mannequin people: addisons have a mesoskeleton that's quite literally a ball-jointed mannequin with a ventriloquist dummy-like head. Their organs are protected inside it and it gives their body shape, and it's coated by a layer of fat (for insulation) and a layer of thick, opaque silicone, which is what gives them their characteristic colors. They have hair pretty much in the same patterns and textures as humans would, but it's always the same color of their skin.
Red cheeks: every addison has red markings on their cheekbones, but their silicone skin covers it up, and you can only see at the very most a darker spot. White addisons have a slightly more transluscent skin due to being, well, white, and therefore the red markings appear as rosy cheeks. Quite adorable.
Voicebox & speech patterns: instead of regular vocal chords, they have a voicebox (not unlike a doll, yeah) on the back of their throats, that allows them not only to reproduce sounds that aren't their regular voice (think like a parrot), but it also gives them the ability to insert hyperlinks to various ads and products while they speak. While it's something they can tune out, it's natural and satisfying for an addison to insert hyperlinks in keywords or key phrases when they're talking. If they're surprised or overcome with emotion, their hyperlinks might break or malfunction.
Nesting: one of their most bird-like behavior is nesting; while swatchlings and other bird monsters might prefer wider, elaborate nests, addisons have an instinct that favors tight walled nests, and can and often will sleep sitting up leaning against something surrounded with blankets, in a pile/burrito. They develop an instinct to build nests when they are about to lay eggs, usually with blankets and pillows. Beds that are built for the needs of addisons often look like as if a cylinder was cut in quarters, with long curved walls to support their heads, like a divan. Comfy!
Ad-lings: addisons reproduce by laying eggs in batches, between 1 and 6 eggs, and from the eggs (I guess you could call them pipis, sure) hatch ad-lings (or ad-sons), which is what you'd call a young/adolescent addison. They take a really long time to achieve maturity (think like if a person was considered a kid/teen until they were like, 26), and because of how much dedication ad-lings require from their progenitors the egg-laying parent usually becomes barren after laying their brood. They're highly social, especially with their siblings, and as they grow up they develop a sales pitching method, which they like testing out on their family and friends a lot (ad-lings and adult addisons don't mind them much, but other darkeners may find it a huge hassle).
Gender? I hardly know 'er: addisons don't have secondary sex characteristics, which means that besides the actual reproductive system they have little to no characteristics that would differentiate between sexes. Because of that, addisons play fast and loose with gender identity, gender presentation and pronouns, usually just choosing one set of pronouns for themselves and that's pretty much it.
I think those are the ones I have so far? Let me know what you think! I love those fucking ad creatures so much <3

some bad photos  and stupid ideas of team dark
long story short-i got this idea/au where shadow/team dark are fighting against a big meanie, evil god, alien, whateever, proably mephiles ha and shadow inhibitors just break and his anatomy go funky and he transforms in some sort of ´´adult version of him ´´, he cant stay as a sonic clone all his life so his biology just go fuck you, you arent a moebian hedgehog my dude and he gets to be bigger now and flufflier, he also transform in some kind of slime/tentacle black doom look alike monster but that is before this, negative energy and fear affects him the same way the chaos emerald do, the big ass tail come from the biolizard
ok now he is adult he also has more of a fashion sense that he picked up from rouge but more minimalist and sadly he cant skate anymore since his shoes just break and he is way too tired and big to do that, dont be sad for him he can teleport anywhere he wants to lmao,he also has only part of his rings that he uses are  under his wrists
in personality he is way more mature and nihilist but in some weird groovy kind of way,he makes mistakes, take bad and good decisions as everyone, he is just a very conflicted mf but also has good intentions even if he is scary sometimes
now with rouge and omega, they are brothers, like absolutely found family trope, think of we bare bears, they are these kind of brothers that make pranks and insult eachother but wont hesitate to to help the other even on the smallest problems or that will totally hear  them ramble about some shit at 3am , funny thing is that both rouge and shadow think of themselves as a the older one while the others are the younger, both are aware that omega is baby tho
as for rouge outfit, i wanted to giver some really feminine comfy classy sport clothes so she can steal all the jewels she wants and be comfy about it but also cute.
now my most important hc about them ... is that the 3 of them are absolute idiots when it comes to cooking and eat like shit, like for example;rouge is just a bad cook, is either raw or burned with her, even her coffee tastes like oil,she is just inept when it comes to this
shadow burned one of their hideouts once trying to use a microwave, there is some much things to learn about food that he gets overhelmed and nerveous.poor dude woke up tried to destroy the world, change his mind ,found his alien dad, kill him and sonic is constantly nagging him about races that food is the last thing that crossed his mind but despite all of that and the fact that he doesnt need to eat he still tries and eat everything bc he actually likes to eat so he taste any shit he finds ,rouge once found him eating a bag of salt
omega is curious with food and since his brothers are bags of meat he thinks they absolutely need all the food in the world so he tries to cook but he doesnt have the taste sense,he tried to cook rocks once...
so that is my stupid novel about these anthro animals, idk team dark is just the best and i wish sega would do more with them...
they also squat like a pair of russian fellas while drinking some coca cola or the sonic equivalent of coca cola

godzilla anime has a nice style and character designs but it’s a little, um. technical, for my tastes. the dialogue is like mostly people rambling about radio waves and theoretical biology or something and my eyes are glazing over trying to stay interested. i just wanted to see some funky monsters, man
