Ringmaster Raven Dialogue Analysis #1

I think I find Raven so compelling because, unlike with many other villains, we get a solid look into his mindset. Like, a lot of the villains have a straightforward motive of getting money or power, & it's left at that. You often need to do more speculation to figure out why they do what they do. But Raven gives so much of his motivation away in his dialogue, & that provides a lot to analyze.

Let's look at this line:

"The boy nobody wanted... I'll never be alone again!"

This part kills me bc he's not just doing this elaborate monster plan for revenge... he’s doing it so he can have "friends." He has felt nothing but disconnected & alone for most of his life. No one knew he was Bird Boy for 20 years, which means he kept himself disguised & (probably) reasonably isolated. But with his plan, he’d have friends to keep him company, friends who he doesn’t have to hide behind a mask for. Essentially, his plan is about revenge & closure & creating the friends he never had.
