Faction Intros: The Monster Makers

Finishing up with the... morally grey peeps

Who are the Monster Makers? If you could manage to capture a real member instead of one of their fucked up little pets, strap them down and make them talk, they’d probably look at you with mix of haughty contempt and amusement. Monster Maker, the kind of thing you’d call the evil scientist in a cheap B movie, no class, no dignity, cackling manically over glowing green beakers. Nothing like themselves.

Or so they’ll claim to their dying breath.

The Chimeric Fraternity, that’s what they call themselves, a fact that was only pried out of one of them months into the war. Most regular people just kept calling them the Monster Makers, it seemed more fitting. The full truth of them wouldn’t come out until after the dust had settled. In the thick of things, only a few facts could be established for sure.

First, Fraternity membership was low, very low, a few hundred at most, though their cell structure and use of embedded agents made determining an exact number impossible.

Second, those low numbers only counted living, thinking human beings, the brains behind the whole operation. Freaks, mutants, and yes even monsters, they had those aplenty. Bursting from hidden compartments, stowed inside seemingly innocuous shipments, it felt like they could appear out of nowhere, at any time, in any place. Behind them a solitary figure slinking in the darkness, seemingly making observations and issuing orders from small tablets. Worse was when that figure wasn’t there…

Third, they had no core base of operations, no ‘home’ to strike at. Months of security sweeps by both The Steel Legion and R.U.R., as well as non-aligned powers, rooted out dozens of micro labs, gestation tubs, bolt holes, built right into their own stations. Parasites, hiding in plain sight. It was only in the last months that they were observed congregating in any great numbers. On stations left depopulated or derelict by the war, they were transformed. Nests, the soldiers sent in called them, those that returned that was. Could that have been their goal from the start?

Nobody would publicly associate with them before long, especially not other Biotech factions like the Epimethusians who saw centuries of mistrust and demonization brewing in their atrocities, but rumours persisted of occasional covert meetings and mercenary services purchased.

Not cartoonish straw nihilists, but clearly not over-burdened with ethics, what do they want?

MONSTERMAKER Info

MONSTERMAKER is a personal project of mine based on several series dear to my heart and a world-building test, I plan to make a few written stories set in the universe but I am mainly an artist so it will likely just be art at first.

MONSTERMAKER is set in a universe without humans, there are three types of sentient beings: Feline, Canine, and Carbuncle/Mythological(vaguely based on the creature in South American folklore of the same name, with added parts from other mythological creatures, mostly ones in North American and South American folklore as those are the ones I know the most about).

A lot of the cultures and religions of the universe are still wip, but I have naming conventions down: Felines go for complex names but kids usually only take one last name(most common is the father's last name, name changes after marriage are rare though), Canines go for easier names but tend to have at least one middle name and take the last name of whatever parent is the highest in status(it is common to take your spouse's last name), Carbuncles usually use nature-related or stone/earth themed names due to their magic connections to the earth, usually kids will have the last name of both parents but some families do things differently as cultures vary vastly between different sub-types of Carbuncles.

Dogs do exist in MONSTERMAKER I am not entirely sure how I want to go about the fact that dogs only exist because of selective breeding but I will state that some breeds will not exist(such as Exotic Bullies and the extreme versions of Brachycephalic breeds), tame cats do not pose all the same problems as dogs do since cats have been similar to ones today for a long, long time.

There will be a lot of possibly trigging themes but I will try my best to keep proper warnings on every post, the ones you will see a lot are: self-destructive behavior(including self-h and drugs/alcohol abuse), abuse of varying types(emotional, physical, etc.), religious and medical trauma, cults, and though abuse has already been mentioned I want to put a special warning for CSA and Inc*st being in a main characters backstory. These are all things I have been close to experiencing, know someone who has experienced it, or have experienced it myself, I will try to be as careful as possible when dealing with these topics.
